Can't install MVC 3 Tools update. The installer finishes ok, but MVC 3 Tools Update never gets installed (when viewed in Control Panel's Programs and Features section). The MVC project templates remain old and can't compile projects created with a pc that actually has the MVC 3 Tools Update installed. For example, VS2010 complains about ViewBag as non-existent.
Anyone else having the same issue that MVC 3 Tools Update doesn't install?
ViewBag is built-in ASP.NET MVC 3, nothing to do with the Tools Update. If VS cannot recognize ViewBag you probably are not working on an ASP.NET MVC 3 project or even don't have this installed.

Net MVC application there I want to update the telerik control as per the security team.
I am looking at the nuget packages and it giving me multiple options. The MVC projects that I have it is running on .net 4.7.2 so I am not sure which package to install. Also I used to think MVC4 is .net 4x.x but seem like it is not true so here is the
Here are the multiple options for MVC:
Telerik.Ui.For.ASPNet>MVC3
Telerik.Ui.For.ASPNet>MVC4
Telerik.Ui.For.ASPNet>MVC5
Telerik.Ui.For.ASPNet.Core
I thought Telerik.Ui.For.ASPNet>MVC4 would work on 4.7.2 but it is not working as expected when I installed the several different packages.
Another confusion created to me by Telerik documentation. If it is referring to 3, 4 or 5 what does it really means?
" Telerik.UI.for.AspNet.Core—Telerik UI for ASP.NET Core Commercial.
Telerik.UI.for.AspNet.Mvc5—Telerik UI for ASP.NET MVC 5 Commercial.
Telerik.UI.for.AspNet.Mvc4—Telerik UI for ASP.NET MVC 4 Commercial.
Telerik.UI.for.AspNet.Mvc3—Telerik UI for ASP.NET MVC 3 Commercial.
I've just updated Visual Studio 2019 to 16.3.6 which includes the ASP.Net Core 3 SDK.
I create a new project from the ASP.NET Core Web Application project template. The previous version would let me pick the ASP.Net Core version (2,2.1,2.2). Now it does not, and defaults to creating the project using ASP.Net Core 2.2, not 3. Do I always need to manual upgrade every project I create or is there somewhat to bring back the version dropdown or set visual studio to default to Core 3?
I've got Core 3.0 SDK installed:
Then I choose ASP.NET Core Web Application
There are no other core related web projects to chose. Click Next
Then I configure the project There are no options for version, or authentication. I used to see those options prior to the upgrade.
The option is still there. I think you need to install .Net core 3 SDK.
I'm following the guide oninstalltion Umbraco here. It seems that they don't mention VS2015but I followed as closely I could by installing it into an empty MVC 5 project.
However, as I install UmbracoCMS via NuGet, I see this error (and a bunch of alikes, all nagging about DNX 5 being not supported).
NU1002 The dependency Microsoft.AspNet.WebHelpers 3.2.3 in project PocUmbraco does not support framework DNXCore,Version=v5.0.
c:\users\chamster\documents\visual studio 2015\Projects\PocUmbraco\src\PocUmbraco\project.json
I'm very unclear what to do about it. I've googled but didn't find anything helpful, likely due to ignorance and limited experience with Umbraco.
You actually installed into a ASP.NET 5 project (which has MVC6).
You should not use the ASP.NET 5 template, but something like 4.5.2 or 4.6. DotnetCore is not supported by Umbraco. Not sure about ASP.NET 5, but according to this, it does not sound very supported to me:
https://our.umbraco.org/forum/umbraco-7/using-umbraco-7/66903-umbraco-on-linux-with-aspnet-5
Also, leave out azure if you just want to get a POC running.
Then after you created your empty ASP.NET project, install nuget package UmbracoCms, and hit that F5 button and go from there :-)
I'm using MonoDevelop on the Mac with the latest Mono version installed.
What steps do I need to take to start using MVC3 in a project with RAZOR syntax (.cshtml files)?
I've read http://www.mono-project.com/Release_Notes_Mono_2.10#ASP.NET_MVC3_Support but it doesn't spell it out. How do I create my first .cshtml file? How do I tell my application to point to Index.cshtml, and not the default Index.aspx file when creating an MVC (2) project in MonoDevelop?
Update
I started a new MVC2 project in Mono. I started a new MVC3 project in VS 2010. I copied all the required DLLs over from the MVC3 to the MVC2 project in Mono. Now I build and get a "The compiler has appeared to crash" in Mono.
I thought there was MVC3 support? http://mono-project.com/Release_Notes_Mono_2.10#ASP.NET_MVC3_Support What am I doing wrong here?
I'm not sure how deep you're diving into Mono or what enviroment you're using, but here are three pretty useful blog articles about using MVC and Mono:
Get MVC3 Razor Running on Mono
Setting up Mono 2.8 with Asp.Net 4.0 and MVC2 on Ubuntu with MySql
Membership
Installing OpenSuse 11.2 with Mono 2.6.1 and Apache Using Text Mode Configuration – Porting to Mono
The second link has a downloadable MVC application that has already been setup to run with a version of Mono and uses MySql with the membership provider scheme scripted into it.
I hope these links help you, and good luck with your project.
If you are getting the "Compiler has appeared to crash" when trying to cut over to MVC3, you should set your project to .NET 4. You can do this by right clicking on the project->Options->Build->General and selecting Mono / .NET 4.
This gentleman seems to have had some success in getting MVC3 running in monodevelop on a mac.
I managed to get MVC3 and razor to work in xamarin studio on MacOS by following the solution here:
Monodevelop MVC3 razor - what is the trick to get it to work?
I want to run MVC 3 on my Windows 7 32 Bit machine. I have Visual Studio 2010 and I can create ASP.NET MVC2 projects there. But now, I want to install MVC 3 in my machine. So,
I tried the online installation using Web Platform Installer from http://www.asp.net/mvc/mvc3 link. After installation, I didn't find the ASP.NET MVC 3 Web Project Template in my Visual Studio 2010 Project Templates.
So I again downloaded the Offline Installer from same link. But I got error when I ran the installer. Clicking on the Log file I got:
OS Version = 6.1.7600, Platform 2
OS Description = Windows 7 - x86 Ultimate Edition
CommandLine = h:\temp\ext6142\setup.exe

After installing from web platform, I didn't check the selected .NET Framework Version in Visual Studio Project Template when I wanted to create a new project in MVC 3. Default .NET Framework was 3.5 in the visual studio of my machine. So MVC 3 project template wasn't showing in the project templates.
And, without uninstalling the existing MVC 3, when I again wanted to install MVC 3 from offline installer, I got the error I mentioned in my question. It may happened because either performing same installation or the file was corrupted at the time of downloading or any other issue.
Later, after uninstalling MVC 3 from control panel, I again run the web platform installer to install the MVC 3 and this time I check the selected .NET version. I selected .NET Framework 4 and MVC 3 project template is now appeared in visual studio's project templates.
My computer had trouble uninstalling an older MVC3 RC. Fix:
Remove the trailing backslash from the following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ASP.NET\4.0.30319.0\Path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ASP.NET\4.0.30319.0\Path
Uninstalled the old version of "Microsoft ASP.NET Web Pages".
Add the trailing backslash back to those keys.
Install MVC 3.

In any case it's good idea to download the offline installer. The web one doesn't care about error messages, and just shows success.
In my case it was c# async CTP that was blocking the installation - the offline installer at least told me so:)
