Trouble compiling mono from source via cygwin on windows - compilation

I work off my i: drive
I've downloaded the following mono source file mono-2.11.2.tar.bz2
I've installed the windows version of mono v2.11.2 to "I:\Mono-2.11.2"
I installed cygwin as per the following instructions found on the following webpage http://shana.worldofcoding.com/en/mono_cygwin_tutorial.html
I replaced the "make.exe" with the one from the mono website as per instruction. I had to get one more file "cygintl-2.dll" which resides in cygwin package libintl2/libintl2-0.12.1-3
I added the following my .bashrc file. I had to change "c/Mono-2.11.2/bin" to "i/Mono-2.11.2/bin"

I placed my mono source under the folder specified: /usr/src/mono/
So my dirs looks like:
i:
i:\cygwin\
i:\cygwin\usr\src\mono
i:\cygwin\usr\src\mono\mono
i:\cygwin\usr\src\mono\mcs etc etc
i:\Mono-2.11.2\bin etc
Now the instructions says I must change dirs to /usr/src/mono/mono and run "./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr/local" from the cygwin terminal
However that doesnt work. Running the above command from /usr/src/mono/ works fine.
Now heres the problem. The next instruction is to run "make". However this comes up with :
$ make
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
I even tried running it from the /usr/src/mono/mono dir. Still no luck.
Can someone please suggest what I should do to be able to build the mono source on windows 7?
Update:
I needed to install the **gnu c++ compiler (g++)**. I just ran the cygwin setup again, searched for g++ and installed that. The autogen.sh ran to completion

The last lines of ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr/local output should
look like bellow with Now type make to compile at the end. And it
generats Makefile in the same directory.
I think in your case ./autogen.sh failed. You can keep a log file
and check what it is complaining about.

./configure doesn't find Qt5Core, QT5GUI, QT5Widgets

I've recently replaced Win10 by Linux Debian 11.2 on my PC (hence I'm a newbee in Linux). Now, not all programs are available as deb-Files.
I tried to compile source code - here a synthesizer ams-2.2.0 - from a tar.gz files (after unzipping into a separate folder) with steps (as written in the INSTALL.TXT to this source, and obviously usual)
./configure
make
make install
I get a bunch of error messages for missing files, when running ./congigure most resolved by installation of missing packages, but at last it fails with error message:
checking for QTCore Qt5Gui Qt5Widgets >= 5.0... no
configure: error: cannot find Qt5 library >= 5.0
(hope to get all written correctly, because I can't copy from the terminal ... Ctrl-Shift-C doesn't seem to work)
I checked the installation in synaptics and found that Qt-Version is 5.12. So what's wrong here?
I'm afraid to have this error message everytime I try to compile different source codes.
You need to install libqtcore and libqtwidgets with development headers, they are in qtbase5-dev package.
sudo apt install build-essential qtbase5-dev qtchooser

Problem installing omni compiler - fatal error: mpi.h: No such file or directory

I am trying to install omni compiler in order to compile XcalableMP programs on OSX. I can ./configure successfully as per the instructions but am receiving this error when I make:
../include/xmp_internal.h:19:10: fatal error: mpi.h: No such file or directory
My Open MPI is installed via homebrew and mpi.h is located through my Cellar folder. How do I go about including this header file?
can you try the following command to be sure the location of the installed openmpi is correct:
mpicc -showme
Then, are you sure the mpi path is in your path, try to set these environment variables and then try:
Note that I assume the openmpi is installed in "/home/openmpi" path for example:
export PATH=/home/opempi/bin:/home/opempi/include:$PATH
and for the runtime:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/home/openmpi/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

updating to svn 1.9.4 via command line in mac

I am using SVN against my will. The current team I work with uses it for version control and they are not always available to help me. I am just trying to go from SVN Version 1.8.13 to the latest 1.9.4
I have download it and I have ran this command too

Consider using Brew or MacPorts, if possible. Then this can be as simple as:
brew install svn
If you really must install from source,
it might not be as complicated as the steps you described so far.
Try these much simpler steps exactly:
cd /tmp
curl -o subversion-latest.tar.gz http://apache.mirrors.tds.net/subversion/subversion-1.9.4.tar.gz
tar -xvf subversion-latest.tar.gz
cd subversion-1.9.4
./configure --prefix=/tmp/local
make
make install
This will (hopefully) build Subversion and install it into /tmp/local. Test with this command:
/tmp/local/bin/svn --version
If the output looks good, then repeat from the start, but use a different value for --prefix, as appropriate in your environment.
(I tried, and this worked well for me, right now, btw.)
Maybe it's not so simple. In that case please update your question with the output where you get stuck.

Errors installing IJulia: Homebrew and Nettle

I recently tried installing IJulia on OS X 10.6.8, with Julia v0.2.1. After installing IPython, I ran Pkg.build("IJulia") and got the following console errors:

It seems to be complaining about an old version of libcurl (?), but when I run curl -V in Terminal, it says I am using curl 7.19.7. Likewise, executing ipython --version shows that I'm using 2.0.0, the latest version of IPython. Am I misreading the error message? If so, what steps should I take to fix it?

It looks like you don't have a C compiler installed so the Pkg.add is failing on some of IJulia's nettle dependency.
Your first errors dependency though looks like it's a linking conflict between the bundled git implementation for your julia distribution and the system provided library.
You can see exactly what shared library the git app is using with otool.
otool -L /Applications/Julia-0.2.1.app/Contents/Resources/julia/libexec/git-core/git-remote-https
This should list the full path of the libcurl dylib that the git-remote-https binary is linking to.
You can compare that against the output for otool -L $(which curl) and see if they are linking to the same library.
You can also run otool -L on the referenced libraries themselves to see what versions they are. This should at least tell you what the conflict is. It's possible that you will need to upgrade the git version that your julia distribution uses. But I'm not sure what would be involved there. I just install julia from source which bypasses this particular problem.
You might find it easier to do the same.
What worked for me might be of help to you:
Using latest Anaconda free python, download windows32 exe file from github and extract, start julia.bat, then in the Julia command window type Pkg.add("IJulia"), In another command window type
ipython notebook --profile=julia and enjoy the webpage that opens in your default browser(Chrome)!!
I had trouble because of the syntax of the --profile=julia command part.
I too use macports and not Homebrew.
I seem to have fixed this by changing lines 21,22 in ~/.julia/v0.3/Nettle/deps/build.jl to:
libdirs = String["$(julia_usrdir)/lib"; "/opt/local/lib"]
includedirs = String["$(julia_usrdir)/include"; "/opt/local/include"]
i.e. I added the macports lib and include dirs explicitly.

Can not configure Mapnik due to icuuc

Trying to compile Mapnik on OSX 10.8
So after I clone the Github repo, I go to run the configure command like so:
./configure and then get the error:
Checking for C++ library icuuc... no
Could not find required header or shared library for icuuc
and later:
Exiting... the following required dependencies were not found:
- icuuc (ICU C++ library | configure with ICU_LIBS & ICU_INCLUDES or use ICU_LIB_NAME to specify custom lib name | more info: http://site.icu-project.org/)
Looking at the Mapnik troubleshooting area for a solution: https://github.com/mapnik/mapnik/wiki/InstallationTroubleshooting
Says: Solution: If g++ is available then ICU must be in a custom location so set the paths to the libs and includes - ie. ICU_LIBS=/usr/local/lib and ICU_INCLUDES=/usr/local/include.
By running g++ from command line I get: i686-apple-darwin11-llvm-g++-4.2: no input files
So this means that g++ is available, but I have no idea how to go about setting the paths so that configure can find them.
ICU Libraries were installed by default or with homebrew, not sure which.

You can add the path of your ICU_LIB/INCLUDE to your configure command:
