The purpose is to display 'system alerts' for the user. User will log in and during the day he will get alerts boxes....
You can look at the dialog widget from jQuery UI or the overlay from jQuery tools. Not technically plugins, but good for the job (and plenty more besides).
jGrowl is a popular plugin that would probably suit your purpose.

Which works also for web pages. However, the vast majority of my page is in KendoUI, and I don't want to load another framework just for that.
Is there a combination of tricks with Kendo (draw control for example) that I could use to get the same effect?
Alternatively, I am all wet. I just want a quick way to have a "pop-up" of settings that are only occasionally used, and most of the time save the screen real-estate. So maybe just a button and a pop-up window is the correct approach?
Any advice?
I would like to put an image banner on one of my WiX dialogs that when clicked opens a web page for our product support, in case users have trouble with the installation. I think I know how to open the web page but the problem is registering the click event. Is there a way to do this?
From my own attempts I've concluded that a "bitmap" type control won't let you detect clicks. Do I have any other options, like making a pushbutton with a picture on it and hiding the borders so it looks good? I've not been successful with this.

I think you can't do what you want with internal MSI UI for which WiX provides interface.
You can create a button with image on it but you can't hide the borders of the button.
Starting from Windows Installer 4.5, there's ability to include custom UI elements, see Using an Embedded UI for reference. Another option is using External UI, where you develop UI as a regular application and handle notification messages from MSI.
I need to display a popup window when a user clicks a hyperlink on a page. The popup needs to display an ASP.NET gridview control, so I may need a little AJAX so I can query the server for datasource depending on which hyperlink the user clicks.
Does something in the jQuery API pretty much fit my needs? Or, a good plugin?

You know how sometimes you are on a good site and you click a button (like to submit a form) and the form doesn't go away, instead, the foreground becomes transparent and it contains a message of some kind, or another page. The message is at the forefront but the previous page is still mostly visible behind it - how do they do that? I'm assuming it's an Ajax-esque trick.
This is called a light box modal. There are quite a few JS plugins that can do this including Lightbox and the JQuery UI Dialog to name a couple. I just recently started using Fancybox and have been very impressed with its speed and configurability.

One way is to use GreyBox. I think this similar to the effect that you're talking about.
I want to write a Firefox extension that acts exactly like the built-in RSS feed scanner (as an exercise). It should do the following:
On each new page / tab load, it should scan the content of the page for RSS feeds
If there are RSS feeds in the page, it should put a button in the location bar that the user can click
On clicking the button, a speech bubble should appear under the button (the way a speech bubble appears under the bookmarks star when you click on it), with information on the feeds and buttons to subscribe to them
So my main questions are:
What is the process to run specific content scripts for specific pages?
What is the process to use the results of those scripts to update the speech bubble for each location bar button for each tab?
Basically, I'm trying to figure out how to do in Firefox what Page Actions are in Google Chrome.
