After performing a product evaluation by one of the managers other can change the scoring for certain categories. This changes in scoring are stored in the database for reference.
The structure of the evaluation is like this:
Evaluatoin
- Category
- Scoring point
an evaluation can have many categories which all can have many scoring points.
My problem is the following:
If I change a scoring point a few times all is entered in the database but in the reports i am only seeing the first scoring point. The rest of them with the same name are left blank but are using space just as it would if all were visible. The stored procedure that is delivering the data is working fine. It bring all data to the report which then displayes it wrong.
=Fields.CategoryName is working fine... every category name is displayed correctly
=Fields.ScoringPointName is not working... it displayes only the first and leavese all the rest blank... if for example a scoring point name is Product robustnes it would display only the first change of scoring but wouldnt display the rest
Any ideas???
Found out what the problem was. Maybe it will be helpful for other people
I was showing the data in a group header section with grouping =Fields.DefinitionText. Thus it will only repeat if the Fields.DefinitionText is distinct. About the empty space it's caused by the detail section that repeats for every data record. Thus if I want to display all of the data records I have to move the group header section textboxes to the report's detail section.
Here and Here are some usefull things about reporting.
Cheers

I have an analysis that uses a filter in order to limit the results.
I put this analysis into a Dashboard together with a Dashboard prompt.
The Dashboard prompt consists of various columns and all of them are of type "Choice list" and all have the option "Limit values by" = "All prompts".
However, this is not working as I expected. I thought that the values appearing in he Choice list should be limited by the filters applied in the analysis but it seems that the dashboard prompt first shows all the possible values before having applied the analysis filter.
Is this correct?
If this is the way it works, the problem I am facing is that some of the values appearing in the Choice list of the prompt columns will result in NO DATA in the analysis.
Thanks for your help!
"I thought that the values appearing in he Choice list should be limited by the filters applied in the analysis"
Exactly the other way around. Prompts send their selected values to the filter that's in the analysis and hence cut off the data stream.
It is normal that a prompt retrieves selection values for which a certain point of view retrieves no data. Other way round would make no sense. Imagine you sell 5 products and one didn't sell at all in August. Do you want to remove August from your month prompt?
The interdependence of prompts that you mention is for example - limit regions to only regions of a selected country. Limit customers to only customers of a selected business unit etc.
What you write and expect is that the prompt should go over the effective data (facts) and only retrieve values for which data (facts) exists. As said above that's not the most logical thing to do in an analytical environment since one change of point of view can mean that data "exists" or "doesn't exist" - then you change the point of view and the situation changes. And you want that. You don't want to hardcode points of view which over time or when somebody else looks at the data (personalized data security) they will get different results.
Don't hardcode too much. Don't restrict the system artificially.

Here's a screenshot of where you can restrict the prompt
For my requirement, I've got a specific layout for a report. To simplify, the series of Categories should present the Areas in a particular order (financial information).
Every Category will be present on a different Page on Power BI. However, as you can see, some areas belong to multiple Categories. Because of this, I'm getting an error message if I try to order this column by an index, and I can't modify the name of the area.
Is it possible to specify on a cross table that I do not need it to perform any alphabetic order?
I've looked for a possible answer, but so far I have not found any solution to this.
Regards.
Good afternoon!
I have created a report with the wizard to create a matrix that is grouped and has drill down rows. I have added filters to the rows and columns and it works great! I then copied that matrix and modified the filters, so I had two matrixes.
But what I really wanted was those two rows in the same matrix, just in different row groups. So I added another group, using the adjacent below option, and then added all the child groupings. However, when I run the report it shows the values for the first row of the drill down data.
When I look at the groupings I can see the one I did manually has a 'Static' field in each row grouping but the ones that the wizard did (with the red ?), they don't have that "extra" row:
What do I need to change or how do I need to add my groups so that I don't get that "static" row and not show the data? I have the visibility set to 'Hidden' and the toggle set up for the prior grouping set data.
Assuming a few things....
the data comes from a single dataset
You are differentiating between Property and Violent crimes by filtering on a column, I'll call it IncidentGroup for the sake of illustration..
I've understood your question ! :)
Get to the point where you had just a single tablix filtered to show 'Property crime'.
Now remove or edit that filter so it shows all the data you need in the report.
Finally, right click on your Matrix1_IncidentCategory row and add a parent group, choose IncidentGroup (or whatever the column is actually called) and check the box to add a group header.
That should be it, there is no need for a second tablix.
Without knowing how you are filtering currently it's hard to give a complete answer but this should get you close, if not all the way there.
If this doesn't work for whatever reason, please post sample data from your dataset output and your current filters.
I'm trying to convert a Crystal Report to SSRS and I'm having trouble with this section of the report.
The first line of the report event information: date, name, recruiter, hours, etc.
And then under the summary, the report should list changes that are considered critical changes to information about the event. Within Crystal Report, these changes are in the Details section and all changes are listed under each event.
I am trying to accomplish the same task within SSRS but I'm having some trouble with the changes summary. The event summary displays for each record of a change. In the screen shot below, you can see that DriveID 682144 had three changes, but for each change, the event summary is displayed/printed. So instead of Evoqua listed once and the three changes made to the event listed underneath, I am getting the summary displayed for each and every change within the report.
I have a row grouping for DriveID since each event has an unique ID. And I also have a Details row group that displays the changes. I've tried adding a grouping on the Details row group, but if I group on SourceDriveID, it will only display one record for each drive. I am joining the two tables on DriveID (Drivemaster.DriveID=CriticalDriveChanges.SourceDriveID)
I think it would work if the Critical Drive Changes view had a unique identifier, but it doesn't so I am trying to work with what I have. Any suggestions on making this work?
If there is anything I need to explain better, please let me know. I've been stuck on this for two days and need to get through it.
Thanks,
Your second group needs to be grouped by the key of the “changes” and not the DriveID. It’s already grouped by the DriveID because of the parent group. Grouping by the same Field again effectively gives you an extra summary row, its showing the first of the changes.
This can be done by customized summary. You can have a global variable for the summary, and use expression to do the calculation. Some tricks are needed for this kind of report.
newparts_calc
if (([MonthToDateQuery].[G/L Account] = 4200 and [Query1].[G_L_Group] = 'NEW')) THEN ([Credit Amount]-[Debit Amount]) ELSE (0)
Data Item1
total([newparts_calc])
I need Data Item1 to return newparts_calc values only.
So for example in 1st row Data Item1 should be 8,540.8, but is 34,163.2
Whats wrong? how do i fix?
REVISED QUESTION
I apologize for not making sense on the original question.
I have many of the calc's that im trying to gather and put on a crosstab. I want to see sales by month (row) and part category (column)
[Query2] is the one shown in picture above.
It joins [MonthToDateQuery] AND [Query1]
The join is on 'Invoice' and carnality is 1..1 = 1..1
[MonthToDateQuery] is based on the package im working in. General ledger. It supplies the g/l entries for each sales g/l account
[Query1] is a SQL query i brought in to be able to break out categories even further from g/l group.
For example g/l account 4300 is rebuilt. However i needed to break out even further to see Rebuilt-Production and Rebuilt-New. I can do that with the g/l group.
I saw in my g/l account ledger entries that it referenced the invoice number. So thats how i tied in my SQL.
So as you can see from the table below (which is the view tabular data from query) i need a total. I have tried plugging newparts_calc into my crosstab and setting aggregation to total but the numbers still dont seem right. I dont think i have something set as it should be.
All the calc's im doing are based on single or multiple G/L Accounts and single or multiple G/L Groups.
Any Advice?
As you can see the problem seems to be duplicate invoice numbers.
How can i fix?
Couple things come to mind:
-Set the processing order to 2
-Since your calc is always a multiple and you are joining two queries, you may need to check your cardinality. Sometimes it helps to add derived queries to ensure you are working with the correct grain.
I'm obviously missing something, but if you want
I need Data Item1 to return newparts_calc values only.
just use newparts_calc, without total? That would give you proper value for row 1 -)
If you need a running-total for days (sum of values for previous days) — you should use a running_total function.
At a guess, one of your two queries is returning multiple rows for each invoice, which will cause this double counting. Look at the output of the two queries and see if that's happening. If so, then you just need to work out how to collapse that down to one row per invoice.
Per your new question - The underlying data has got to be causing the issue. Its clearly not 1:1 (note that even though this is what your stated cardinality is, Cognos does not enforce 1:1). Invoice number is not unique, GL Group is at a lower level.
