I use RDP to connect to a server, and I leave it connected while I work, but it always keeps disconnecting me - I have other servers that don't do this... is there a setting somewhere that I need to set? What is this setting?

This is probably best suited for ServerFault, but I would check the RDP Idle disconnect and other timers. See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754272.

We are working with a client looking to launch in Europe and there are concerns if Heroku is compliant with Europe's Safe Harbor rules. I've done some Googling but most of the questions seem to be from 2011 without any clear answer.
Does anybody know if there is an update to this? Can we host a website for a European client on Heroku?

Basically, what I want is something like Dropbox, but it is for my whole server.
If I place a folder into it, it updates on my server, and is accessible through my URL.
If I delete something, it removes it from the server too.
It also seconds as a offline backup of everything on my server.
Is there any app like that?
Thanks, in advance.
FTPBox seems to do what you want.

my website is crippled due to simple request from many ranges of ips, tens of thousands or more request per second. Is there a way to defend this kind of attack? Is there a way to trace back to the attacker?
Yes.
apt-get install mod-dosevasive
But this question belongs on serverfault.

How can i detect an elite proxy?
it's ok if i don't get them all, since it won't be possible
but atleast most of them?
Activities that should require more than one destination (most web browsing) yet constantly show up as the same destination are a good indicator of a proxy.
If a single site accounts for more than 20-30% of a user's request, it might be worth looking into to see if that is a proxy or not. This should mean you'd only ever manually investigate 2 or 3 sites per user. You can adjust this threshold as convenient.
For sure, you need solid logging for your network environment.
