I am wanting to buy a Nokia Lumia 900 this week, it's (obviously) a Windows Phone 7.5, but Microsoft is going to release Windows 8/Windows Phone 8 somewhere in october and I am wondering if the Lumia will get an update to Windows Phone 8, and if it will not get an update, can I install Windows Phone 8 on my own?
No current generation Windows Phone will be able to be updated to Windows Phone 8 in a supported manner. Who knows if you will be able to hack a copy onto it, though. Current phones will receive an update to Windows Phone 7.8, which will have a similar start screen, but no other information has been released on that version yet.

Is there a way to install a wp7 app in a surface tablet? I've trie running the xap file of my app but the os doesn't know what to do with it.
How can I deploy my wp7 app into a surface tablet?
I have the "Pro" edition.
If you have a Surface Pro, then you can probably try to install the WP8 SDK and then can probably try to run an emulator, and with a following wind you might eventually be able to deploy your XAP to that emulator.
But there's no way currently to run WP apps on Win8 directly.
Maybe this might come in the next release - currently rumoured to be called "Blue"
The Surface Pro runs Windows and therefore can install Windows apps. It does run Windows Phone and can't run WP7 apps.
It's not directly possible - as another poster said you could try the testing emulator. You might have more luck if it was a windows phone 8 app, because windows 8 on your surface pro is very similar to windows phone 8. A windows phone 8 app can be ported to a tablet windows store app extremely easily, but if you can't do this the emulator is your best bet.

I have just got win 8 pro and i have xp -pro pc and I use to connect with mstsc.exe /span from my win 7 computer. but appears to be win 8 didn't work with mstsc /span. just got on one monitor.
How can I get RDC on dual monitor work on win 8?
I didn't see any option on the new " New Remote Desktop connection" apps downloaded from windows store. any idea...??
I have to say that I have not personally tested this since my Win 8 laptop only has one screen.
If you bring up the old graphical RDP client (not the App Store one), you can select the option to use multiple monitors:

I can't find a straight answer for compatibility issues between WP7 and new WP8.
For example: what if some popular apps like facebook, twitter will be updated to WP8? Will they still work on WP7 (7.8)? Or the latest WP7-compatible version will stay in Marketplace for WP7 users and new fo WP8 will be just for WP8 users?
I'm asking because many of my friends are interested in buying Lumia 800 in great price, but they worried about limited number of apps in future.
Cheers!
The latest WP7-compatible version will stay in Marketplace for WP7 users
Exactly. And developers can continue to update the WP7 version of an app even when a WP8 version has been published.
If an application is compiled for Windows Phone 8, it will NOT work on Windows Phone 7.x.

I just have a general question I haven't been able to find the answer to. If you buy an application in Windows 8 Store(Using your Surface for example.) do you have to purchase that same application on Windows 8 Phone store?
Also if you buy something in Windows phone 7 do you get that same application in Windows 8 Store(Using your Surface for example.) or Windows Phone 8 Store?
Applications are separate, unfortunately, between Windows Phone and Windows 8. Buying something on Windows Phone 7 will give you that app on Windows Phone 8, however.
Yes, the Windows 8 Store and the Windows Phone Store are separate. There is only one Windows Phone Store - it just filters the applications based on the version of the phone targets. If you buy a WP7 app, it will be available to you on a WP8 phone.

I just bought an htc pro 7 which was with windows phone 7. I upgraded it with zune today and it says update available is 7.1.
So I don't understand did it upgrade my phone to Mango or not ? Why doesn't it say 7.5 then ? So is zune refering to version of the sdk instead ?
From Wikipedia :
7.0.7008 - Improvement for future update
7.0.7390 - Codename "NoDo" with Copy and Paste, fast application startup, and deeper Facebook Integration
7.0.7392 - Revoking of fraudulent certificates
7.0.7403 - Pre-Mango
7.10.7720 - Windows Phone 7.5 Mango available now
7.10.7740 - Fixed email issue in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and voicemail notification issue.
And from here :
Windows Phone 7.5 (codenamed 'Mango') is a major software update for Windows Phone, the mobile operating system by Microsoft. Although the OS internally identifies itself as version 7.1
So yes, your phone has the Mango update.
