I can't find a straight answer for compatibility issues between WP7 and new WP8.
For example: what if some popular apps like facebook, twitter will be updated to WP8? Will they still work on WP7 (7.8)? Or the latest WP7-compatible version will stay in Marketplace for WP7 users and new fo WP8 will be just for WP8 users?
I'm asking because many of my friends are interested in buying Lumia 800 in great price, but they worried about limited number of apps in future.
Cheers!
The latest WP7-compatible version will stay in Marketplace for WP7 users
Exactly. And developers can continue to update the WP7 version of an app even when a WP8 version has been published.
If an application is compiled for Windows Phone 8, it will NOT work on Windows Phone 7.x.

I have a few questions for building apps.
Can u make apps using c++?
How do I get an app from my testing environment onto my windows phone 8?
Do I have to worry about cross phone compatibility?
paying $200 to put apps on the marketplace is extremely out of the question. I just want to test my app on my actual phone.
I assume you are trying to develop windows phone 8 apps, and yes you can develop using c++, but you have to read up on async await, as the sdk have tons of it in order to give the fluid user experience.
And the last time I checked, the developer account only costs $25 now
Well Yes!
You need to unlock your Windows Phone to actually test in on a Hardware Device.
You don't need to worry about the compatibility, but you should take note of the High-Res Phones that are in the Market too.

I have submitted my app in windows phone marketplace.
I have selected the India as market and the price is 0.0(free app)while submitting.
I tried to download it from my system, but it shows
"You can't get apps in this region. You can check the Windows Phone Store
in your home region to see if the app is available there"
When i try too download the app from my mobile, i couldn't find the app in market place.
I am using Nokia Lumia510, and using this same account for the sign in at mobile.
Can you please give me a clarification why is this happening, and what should i do to see my app in mobile market place.
Are you sure this app has been approved already? There is a link on the bottom left of the page that says "Download and install manually" if you want to use it, however I would guess by looking at that page that Microsoft hasn't yet approved your app for the store - it can take a few days, and according to your link, your app was uploaded within the last 24 hours

I am trying to start some mobile development adventure. The Windows Phone looks promising to me. But I don't want to take the wrong path.
So, what's the difference between WP7.5 and WP8 from a developer's perspective?
Will the skillset for WP7.5 still apply to WP8?
Difference? Nothing, really. The IDE is now VS2012, and you need Windows 8. The Emulator is running Hyper-V, and is a lot faster.
If you make games, you'll be have to learn DirectX instead of XNA. But for regular apps, there's no difference to the development.
You can of course use C++/CX now, should you wish it, but in reality everything is still C# 5 and XAML.
My recommendations would be to continue learning WP7, C# and XAML. Read about the new features in C# 5, specially async programming, and learn how it can enhance your development.
Right now we don't yet know the definitive details (unless someone with access to the preview SDK can expand on that) however it is unlikely that the basics will change too much.
Current standard WP7.5 apps should run on WP8 - Microsoft has said they will be centrally adjusting the apps for this compatibility.

I am wanting to buy a Nokia Lumia 900 this week, it's (obviously) a Windows Phone 7.5, but Microsoft is going to release Windows 8/Windows Phone 8 somewhere in october and I am wondering if the Lumia will get an update to Windows Phone 8, and if it will not get an update, can I install Windows Phone 8 on my own?
No current generation Windows Phone will be able to be updated to Windows Phone 8 in a supported manner. Who knows if you will be able to hack a copy onto it, though. Current phones will receive an update to Windows Phone 7.8, which will have a similar start screen, but no other information has been released on that version yet.

I have completed an app using an old iphone sdk. My machine is running leopard. I would like to upload it to the app store and I understand that I have to enroll as an apple developer. What is plain old stupid is that I cannot read any official documentation about uploading to the appstore without purchasing a developer's license. I don't even know if I can upload with my version of xcode and ios sdk. or if i even go through xcode to submit my app for review. my question is how do i go about submitting my app for review and is it possible to do without upgrading my machine? Regardless of the price it is extra money that I do not want to spend.
The developer program is free. You need to pay just in case you want to submit your application. You can register and see any documentation
