I was a newbie in Joomla and using the latest version to create my website. I want to create news page (list of article). I'm using module (external plugin) to listing all the article. But I'm not understand the structure to create the pages.
I got a menu like this:
Home
Latest News (link to single article with category 'Latest News')
This is my category:
Home
Latest News
News (every new article will be under this category)
Events
Then I display all the article inside Latest News page except the page I leave as blank because I using module to display the list. The URL will be like this mywebsitename/latest-news.
The problem is when I click one of the article to show full details of the article. The URL will be like mywebsitename/latest-news/11-home/latest-news/news/articleName. So how I need to do to structure the URL even my breadcrumb to be like this
mywebsitename / Latest News / News / article name
Even the module also display inside the article page. I only set this module under latest news page only. Can anyone help me. Thanks.
If you just began, restart your project. If you want to build up a site, first check whether there are any core functions for your usage or not. If it can be done through them, do it like that, as this is better for updating your site. (Maybe your plugin will not be supported later on...)
Then restart by building up your site:
Category - Article - Menu
Firstly, create the categories you wish. For example, you want the category "News" where you put news articles and a category "Events" where you put articles about your events.
Secondly create some articles for your category. You can use the "read-more" to preview your articles in your blog.
Last, create the menu. You can use a category blog and it's options to show your articles the way you want.
first i show image: http://www.upload.ee/image/4675395/Untitled.png , to understand my idea better
I am using joomla 2.5.14 and I want to add another menu option for Extra Fields (It would have 10 fields - ID, Picture URL, Video URL, etc).
The new menu would be saved as vod_items table. The menu would be added where are the Publishing Options, Configure Edit Screen, etc.
That option should be available in every article.
Is there a simple way to add that option to Joomla or is there any kind of a code or plugin to do that?
Kind regards,
Aimar.
You can create a custom plugin to add more custom fields on Article manager or any other core component of Joomla.
You can follow following link for creating a plugin for adding custom fields to Article manager.
Reference : Adding custom fields to core components using a plugin
Note : Don't edit the core component as all changes will be lost in future update of Joomla.
I'm a joomla noob, and I know how to create a content joomla plugin that prints text just after article title using event listener onContentAfterTitle. Content plugin for Joomla
But I cant find the event listener inside which I should put my code that changes pages title & page description. I have put it inside onContentPrepare & in the onAfterDispatchbut it doesnt work.
Anyone can explain to me how to get it work?
P.S: I want to create the plugin myself to customize as I want
Thanks for the link, but I've found an answer to my question here:
Create a plugin that changes pages title & meta description
And the event in which to put the code is onBeforeCompileHead, and the function used to alter head is: $document->setHeadData($headData);.
I have a bunch of articles in a Joomla 3.1 site that all live under a single category.
I'm creating a specific editor group for each article, ie a small group of users will have edit permissions for 1 article.
I'd like to do something so that when an article that is within the prescribed category (not all articles) is edited, the user (editor) sees a short block of text at the top of the edit page.
Is that possible within Joomla or would I have to edit the PHP file that creates the form?
You could accomplish this using a tool like content templater. http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/core-enhancements/coding-a-scripts-integration/code-snippets/7152
I tried to override profile.xml file along with edit.php (view file) by placing them within templates/template_name/html/com_users/profile folder, and also made sure the edit.php file know about new profile.xml ($this->form->loadFile( dirname(__FILE__) . DS . "profile.xml");) but i cant seem to make it work while updating custom fields from profile editing page at the front end. Also i can see that custom fields are not in order as it should be with respect to profile.xml. Please somebody help me...
You can't override an Joomla xml file. You need to create a user plugin to install separately for the form fields to appear. There is a profile plugin that comes with the default Joomla installation. Further details on this can be found here.
