I am using joomla 2.5.14 and I want to add another menu option for Extra Fields (It would have 10 fields - ID, Picture URL, Video URL, etc).
The new menu would be saved as vod_items table. The menu would be added where are the Publishing Options, Configure Edit Screen, etc.
That option should be available in every article.
Is there a simple way to add that option to Joomla or is there any kind of a code or plugin to do that?
Kind regards,
Aimar.
You can create a custom plugin to add more custom fields on Article manager or any other core component of Joomla.
You can follow following link for creating a plugin for adding custom fields to Article manager.
Reference : Adding custom fields to core components using a plugin
Note : Don't edit the core component as all changes will be lost in future update of Joomla.

I would like to expand the standard component for creating a new article (com_content) in Joomla with an additional field.
I did an template override and added the field in the UI. But I do not know how I can add the value to the database. Which file do I have to change? Is this possible with an template override?
You should create a content plugin and catch onContentPrepareForm() event.
There is a step by step tutorial for that: Adding custom fields to the article component.
A more general tutorial for adding fields to core components could be found at: Adding custom fields to core components using a plugin.
Im completely new to Joomla development. I need to develop Joomla plugin that adds static javascript to the footer of all the pages of a Joomla site. Also, the plugin would need to save 2 fields in database, and access these fields on per page basis. Also, Admin panel is needed.
Now, my questoion is, where do i start? Joomla plugin development is a big task, so if I can get some pointers as to where to start, it would be very supporting.
Im not asking for direct code, but just the right direction to start.
Thanx in advance....
Joomla has three types of extensions (what you refered to as plugin): components, modules and plugins, where each has a different purpose.
If you need to add javascript to all pages, the best place is your template. If you don't have access to template, just building an extension, then you have to create a content plugin.
If you need to create extension with admin panel which also works with database, you need to create a component. The best place to get started is tutorial Developing a MVC component for Joomla 2.5
I tried to override profile.xml file along with edit.php (view file) by placing them within templates/template_name/html/com_users/profile folder, and also made sure the edit.php file know about new profile.xml ($this->form->loadFile( dirname(__FILE__) . DS . "profile.xml");) but i cant seem to make it work while updating custom fields from profile editing page at the front end. Also i can see that custom fields are not in order as it should be with respect to profile.xml. Please somebody help me...
You can't override an Joomla xml file. You need to create a user plugin to install separately for the form fields to appear. There is a profile plugin that comes with the default Joomla installation. Further details on this can be found here.
I hope this question has a simple answer. I am creating a product catalogue with Joomla 2.5.6 and VirtueMart version 2.0.8e. On the product details page I want to include my own pdf button which will link to the brochure of the product.
Under the suggestion of a reply on the Virtuemart form, I created an image custom field in virtuemart but encountered two major problems.
I don't know now to link the image to a pdf.
I can't seem to remove the title from the image.

Please advise.
Thanks,
Aleks
My suggestion would be to use the Virtuemart Files feature. From the admin control panel, under "Shop", choose "Media". There you can upload the file(s) that you want to have downloaded. Be sure to associate them with a product, and they'll be included on the product page for download. To make a button out of the link(s), you could investigate using CSS to style them as a button. The only alternative I can think of would be to build a custom plugin for VM, which would be a great deal of extra work.
To make Custom fields in Joomla Virtuemart 2.0 is so simple.
You need to open your administrator and then go to:
Virtuemart->Products->Custom Field
there you will find a link to create new custom fiels and you can create your custom field with your choice. It provides various Custom Field Types. After creating and saving your custom field you need to go to product whom you want to add it. like:
Products->your product name->
open your product and go to Custom Fields and there at bottom you can see your custom field. add your custom field to product, save it and check this product from front-end of your site.
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks.
We are trying to use the Sitefinity 4 Products module that comes as an example in their SDK as a foundation for a couple custom content types we are creating.
When we use Products module example, we can see it created 2 new entries under the widget template to create custom widget templates. However, when we try to create the template, it will not show up in the list of available widget templates.
What is missing that is preventing the widget template we are creating from showing up on the list for editing. The widget template we create doesn't show up under All Templates nor my Templates.
I encountered this issue before, it turned out that my templates were set with a Build Action of "Content" instead of "Embedded Resource".
hope this is helpful!
I received a response from Telerik, it is a bug in their system that the widget module does not pick up the area name from custom modules. This should be fixed in a future release of Sitefinity. In the mean time, you can update the record in the sf_presentation_data table to contain an area_name so it will show up as an option in the admin.
