Got a problem with adding products to the cart, it goes to the checkout page but the page is empty apart from the surrounding header/footer template.
Ive tried everything i can think of, its not the theme (happens on all themes), i tried diabling compiler and flushing caches etc..
No errors in the server log, i have another magento installation on the same server and that is working fine. Tried disabling all 3rd party extensions too.
Any other places i can look? Im lost!
If header/footer exists it means that script worked from start till end, but might be with some errors. Generally you should first of all try to look for all remove directives in your layout xml files(grep helps). It might be that the content area is simply removed by some xml.
In case XML way thing didn't worked, the things are getting tougher. You should check every template file which should be rendered in the content. it might be that content is somehow commented out.
The other thing to consider is, as far as I remember, the content block should have type list or output="toHtml" so it would be rendered automatically.
At the moment that's all what I might think off. Oh ya! And check that checkout module is enabled and it's output also enabled!
To check if module enabled you should open the Mage_Checkout.xml or Mage_Cart.xml and check if the both enabled at all.
After that in admin panel there is such page as Disable Modules Output where the output of the cart module might be disabled.
Very important note!
Make sure you disable all custom modules and not simply disable their output. Because in latter case you will have module working, simply with no output.
Make sure you check in configuration > advanced
Make sure you check the mage_checkout is enabled both on default but also (more importantly) at your store level (adjust global scope in the top left).
Chances are mage_checkout could just be disabled at your store level for some reason.

I have a problem on magento backend that I am not sure what is happening. Shopping cart price rule was working completely fine, but suddenly the rule page look like this:
screenshoot of shopping rule page
The content of each tab is loaded inside the tab div itself instead of on the content area on the right. Content area is completely empty.
No code was touched in relation with promotions code, or admin/core code at all. I don't see any issue on console or not js code loaded. This is the only page affected (shopping cart price rule page), catalog rule works fine as well as any other with same structure (product page, customer page and such).
I was recently playing around with promotion too much, creating, deleting and editing. And solved a 500 issue on cart page increasing php memory limit. Not sure if related with this issue.
On apache logs it only displays the following when I access that page:
client denied by server configuration: /www/app/etc/local.xml
Could someone help me in where to look in order to solve this issue or have a hint about what could be the issue?
I am completely lost with this one. Magento version 1.7.
Thanks.
I finally found the issue. It was a extension related.
Recently I had some issues on cart page and at some point I disabled a promotion extension (Amasty shipping rules) though magento backend, on system/advanced extensions list.
Seems like the extension is disabled but still used on promotion page, adding the structure for the feature but not showing what is supposed to show (because is disabled) and breaking the layout.
Enabling again the extension or removing the extension on files avoid the issue.
1) clear the cache maybe you made a update and your cache is wrong. you can clear in the admin side clear all the types, or erase all inside /www/var/cache
2) clear the page history in your browser, all is fine but your machime show that weird.
3) after that check the browser console, because is a css problem, maybe a file is lost or change the permitions.
I am working on Magento and trying to make some changes on one of the .phtml files. But my changes never reflect on the web site. I have tried the following things:
Clear Magento cache and delete cache storage
Open the path hint and make sure I am editing the correct file
Go to magento admin panel, System->Configuration->Design, and make sure templates, skin, layout and default folders are correct.
None of the above action worked. Is there anything else that I could do?
Thanks a lot.

First thing you would want to check is the cache. System > Cache Management. Disable the Layout and Blocks HTML output caches and refresh the frontend page where you've put your changes.
If cache isn't the problem there is a way to find out which template is rendered in a specific location because you may not be editing the correct file.
Go to System > Configuration, select your website from top left Current Configuration Scope, then go to Developer > Debug and set Template Path Hints to Yes.
After this, save your config and refresh the page where you want to modify the .phtml.
If you are working on a live environment make sure not everybody will be able to see the template paths by putting your IP in the Allowed IPs input from Developer Client Restrictions.
After you are finished with this re-enable the cache.
I have a site, 1.5 magento, and the cart functionality (and the customer account functionality) seem to be disabled. When i attempt to go to the url 'checkout/cart', just the homepage displays.
Ive checked all the usual suspects..including:
checked the url_rewrites table (there is one entry in their referencing checkout/cart...but goes from checkout/cart to checkout/cart, so dont see this is an issue, but did edit it just to rule it out)
enabling/disabling of the module itself, looking at both the etc/modules files and removing, and checking the module listing in system->config->advanced area.
trying to step through the code..try detect where the change over of pagedata occurs - struggling here.
looking for certain terms in the codebase...and database SQL file.
the htaccess file, looking for a rewrite
local/community modules..and any rewriting of the checkout
Im starting to think a hack is in place here to show the homepage when visiting checkout url. The url : www.mysite.co.uk/checkout/cart remains in the address bar, but i see homepage data.
Anyone know where else i can check...or easily locate the cause of this issue?
Many thanks

Did you look in backend under Configuration -> Sales -> Checkout ?
There is a field called "Enable One-Page Checkout" which has to be enabled. If you disable it, your store will just run fine but neither registered customers nor guests can check out anymore.
Turns out this was rewrites added to the rewrite table manually. Didnt find them at first.
On a Magento 1.11.1 site (Pro).
When I go to the URL [site]/customer/account/create I should get the form for creating a customer from the file /frontend/base/default/template/persistent/customer/form/register.phtml in block Mage_Customer_Block_Form_Register. Instead there is no such block included (show hints and show blocks enabled).
The customer login form works [site]/customer/account/login by displaying the form from file /frontend/base/default/template/persistent/customer/form/login.phtml in block Mage_Customer_Block_Form_Login. This works fine.
I'm using basically the modern theme with modifications (in a separate directory).
Also, customers are still able to create an account via the checkout process.
Is there an configuration parameter that might be set that could disable the standalone 'create customer account' functionality?
Could I have some issue with the templating that is getting in the way of displaying this register block?
So far I have not found the program logic that controls whether the register block is included or removed or anything? I've checked on file permissions and everything else I could think of, but there is obviously something I am overlooking or not aware of.
Any pointers on discovering the source of the problem would be appreciated.
For some reason, when I log into my joomla 1.6 backend, it is now empty, displaying only a logout button. Any Ideas?
I just went through the same problem but on J!1.7.3. There may be many, many reasons but please check using just URL if you can see for example:
[YourDomainHere]/administrator/index.php?option=com_content or
[YourDomainHere]/administrator/index.php?option=com_modules
If content is listing and you're missing just Admin-menu and sub-navigation in back-end --> this means you messed-up with access levels and viewing access.
If you can't see content listing - ignore the rest of this post :-)
...with access levels and viewing access. To check that, try entering [YourDomainHere]/administrator/index.php?option=com_users&view=levels and enter each position in the list. Joomla backend navigation module usually has Access set to Special, so focus on this one. When enter Special - manager, author and super administrator should be ticked. If everything empty in any from the list - this is your issue :)
You need to add manager, author and super administrator to your Special access level. Obviously you can't see Save button, so you need to use database. [wrrr :) sounds scary?] Not a big deal, just go there using for example phpMyAdmin and find _viewlevels table. In there just edit Special and add [6,2,8] values to set up manager, author, super.....
Update database. Try to log-in one more time (close browser and clean cache before).
I hope if this wasn't helpful for you, will be for somebody else.
p.s. There may be a way of 'saving' changes in you joomla access levels with URL. Then you don't need to go to DB .. but I don't know if this is feasible at all :)
Check the rewrite of htaccess and the $mosConfig_absolute_path variable in config.php
Apparently, the Bluestork Template (admin template) has some security issues. In my case there were some missing files in the template folder /administrator/templates/bluestork/ that caused the administrator screen to appear blank. I've copied a clean version of the template in the bluestork folder and after that I was able to see the backend admin area.
I've removed the bluestork templates entirely for now, which seems to be the best option. Joomla installs 2.5.8, 2.5.6, 2.5.2, 1.7.0, 1.6.3 are affected. The Blustork Template is a target for hacks with old Joomla.
this happening becoz of admin user lost his permissions. see below article to fix this issue
