Magento cart can only take one item - cart

Our cart is facing the following issue - you can add one item to the cart - but not a second one. I have already check all the obvious in the system section for restrictions on the quantity (e.g. Unable to add product quantity more than one items in one order MAGENTO) - cookie life time - and many more. No misconfiguration was found. I am using Magento 1.6.2.0. The error was reproduced in Chrome and Safari on Mac OS X many times in a row. I am sorry that I can not post an URL. Moreover there is to know that the run-time environment is an Amazon EC2/RDS Service.

Sounds like the session is not stored. Can you make sure the cookie is set on the correct domain and the sessions are stored properly?
In case you're using file based sessions it could be the files can't be created due to permission issues in the var/session directory

Magento : the cart is always empty

I've been looking for several days now and the problem is stil there.
I'm running the following version of Magento :1.9.0.1
I do not experience any particular problem on local (using Mamp). But on my production server my cart page (beginning of the checkout process) is always empty no matter the number of items i try to add inside my cart.
I tried lots of different solution posted on many websites but nothing seems to solve it (since this is working on local it might be a server configuration problem).
Any suggestion ?

Are you able to login to the site?
Just check in the backend. System->Configuration->Web->Session cookie management
Whether there is a wrong value set for cookie domain
I finally found the answer. The problem was related to a theme template module. I remove the module and it's working now.

Cannot log in or add items to cart in Magento after migrating to new server

I have migrated a Magento site to another server (the same server the database was already hosted on) and I am no longer able to log in or add items to my cart. I have found a few others who have posted about this type of problem but nothing seems to work for me. I have disabled all caching, etc. Ensured that sessions work. Increased the session lifetime. No errors are being logged anywhere. If I enter wrong credentials I get an error. But if I enter the correct information it just keeps returning me to the login page. I have opened permissions completely. Nothing makes any difference! So aggravated. Please help!
Found the issue. Well sort of. I think there was a problem with the timezone (the server I moved to was an hour different from the other) but essentially I resolved the problem by increasing the values for two config items in core_config_data:
UPDATE core_config_data SET value=86400 WHERE path='web/cookie/cookie_lifetime';
UPDATE core_config_data SET value=86400 WHERE path='admin/security/session_cookie_lifetime';
The first query fixed the shopping cart problem, the second the admin login problem.
Again I think there is a mitigating factor here as well, but this at least got me over the hump.

Magento - Internet Explorer Cart Issues

I'm on Magento 1.4.1 and get regular calls (2-3 per week) from customers that they are unable to add products to their cart. The symptoms are the same for customers: All use IE (7 or 8, most commonly). When they attempt to add to cart, they are taken to an empty cart page. Repeated attempts do not resolve the issue. I have not been able to verify, and the only version of IE I have access to is 9. I would dismiss this as user error except for:
Generally lower-than expected conversion rate on my site (explainable if large % of IE customers are unable to transact).
Consistency of symptoms: Browser and version, action that is failing
I assume this is an issue with setting the session or cookie (but could totally be wrong and am open to other suggested causes). If it is a cookie issue, I've found this post and this post from Stack Overflow which give a little information, but not a solid idea of how to go about confirming it is a cookie or session issue.
Can someone suggest the best way to get started with diagnosis?
setting cookie lifetime to 86400 as recomended here did the trick for me.
IE9 bundles development tools (from settings menu) and this allow you to emulate ie7 - ie9 versions in all compatibility modes.
If you are getting blank pages then there is always a php error behind this and you can see those errors from your server php error log.
We had a similar issue with items disappearing from the cart, it only happened in a store that was using a subdirectory of the main domain, and only with ie9 and older ie's. We also had varnish running on the frontend, and magento 1.4.1.1
e.g.
www.example.com = main store
www.example.com/sub/ = secondary store
After adding items to the secondary store basket in ie9, you could then go to the main store and add more items, return to the basket page and all was well then if you went to another secondary store product and added another item to the basket, then visited the basket page all previous items had gone, but the one just added was there.
We found we could consistently reproduce this by visiting a secondary store product page, adding to the basket, visit the basket - item is there, return to the product page, return to the basket, item has gone. It turned out to be a bad background image url in the stylesheet, and the rule was only used by the product page template, this 404 error was enough to cause ie9 and older ie's to lose the session and start a new one.
ie10 and 11, chrome, firefox and safari didn't have this problem at all, so if you're getting intermittent customer reports of baskets suddenly being empty, check the whole site for 404's, all it can take is one missing image to lose the session for ie9 and older ie's.

How to solve 404 not found problem in Magento

I have installed full release Magento on localhost from http://www.magentocommerce.com/download. Before doing installation I have created a database and import Magento sample database (downloaded from Magento site).
After that continue installation process. When I checked fronted its shows Best Selling Products when I clicked any of the product it gives error given below:

I am new to Magento.
I've experienced this too. In the admin go to System > Index Management and rebuild the various catalog indexes, especially the URL rewrites.
This is because the sample data doesn't have it's paths stored to begin with, it needs to be calculated, and the Best Selling Products section doesn't read the actual paths in use, instead it is a Static CMS Block with it's HREFs fixed. This will probably never occur for products you enter yourself so it's nothing to worry about.
I had the same problem in Wamp. I had my folder named Magento, renaming it to magento, fixed the problem. (Lower case)
I had a similar issue, I was transferring Magento from a Unix server to a Windows server. My issue was to do with links looking like this (not working)
http://www.magentoshop.com.au/shop/product01.html
instead of
http://www.magentoshop.com.au/shop/index.php/product01.html
Haven't worked out how to fix all links yet, but just adding it tells me where the issue lies. Hope it helps someone else.

My client can't see any of products - Magento

I am having a weird situation. I worked on a magneto ecommerce website. My friends and I can see the products on the website, but only my client can't see any of them.
I suspected magento cache, so I refreshed and disabled all the caches. My client still can't see all the products. I made him to clear browser cache. It didn't work as well. I also let him use FF or Safari. He still can't see the products.
What is the problem??? I can't try any other things now...
In addition to checking multiple websites, are you logged in or do you have a specific customer group? Magento allows you to show products only to certain customers. Check to make sure that as a logged-out, anonymous user, you can see the products.

Have you configured multiple stores, websites or store views in your Magento instance? Whether or not Magento displays a product depends on a lot of settings, but if one user can, and another user cannot see them, it's most likely related to which store view they are accessing.
The store view Magento is showing isn't always determined by the URL alone, there is also a setting which is stored in the cookie and can be changed via a dropdown (in the default templates anyway).
Stores are configured via System > Manage Stores. If you have multiple rows in there you have multiple store views (or websites or stores).
