Opening terminal window in a specific folder in mac os x - macos

Does anyone know the easy way of opening the terminal window in a specific path, it is so annoying to keep changing the path as needed very frequently during development.

Drag the folder from Finder onto Terminal's dock icon. Use "New Tab" (Cmd+T) from within Terminal if you need another session with the same current folder.

Try this little application:
https://github.com/nmadhok/OpenInTerminal
You can select finder sidebar items, select file/folders to open the directory in Terminal. This is a really handy tool if you're a developer on Mac.

MacOS, how to delete uesless service item in Keyboard Shortcuts when cannot find in finder

I cannot find any service file related to iTerm2.

Is there a way to use PyCharm on multiple monitors

I'm using PyCharm with multiple monitors on Mac OSX (10.10.5), normally you can drag windows off to a separate monitor. In PyCharm that works, but they (and in particular the Run window) snap back to the main monitor.
I've only seen this on the latest PyCharm 5 CE though its possible older versions also had the problem. I've searched all the settings and searched online, but can't find a setting that makes the window stay where it was placed.
Right click on the tab and select View Mode as Window.
Then you can move the window to another monitor.
It's crappy behaviour from the best python IDE out there.
There is a OSX solution but i'm not sure if you will like it:
You can enable old style multiple screen support again in OSX by going to System Preferences, Mission Control and uncheck "Displays have separate spaces". Now your floating windows will not snap back and you can even extend your PyCharm main window over the screens.
The downside of this solution is that you'll have the OSX dock and main menu only on your main monitor. I hope Jetbrains will fix this behaviour soon.
Another way to achieve what you want is to open multiple instances of the project. When you try to open the project for the second time you can choose "open project in new window". You can drag the new window to the second screen; it won't snap back to your primary monitor.
For Ubuntu and Windows users landing up here:
Press Shift + F4 or
Right-click and select 'Move Tab to New Window'
Drag the newly created window to the next screen
The best option is to detach an editor window and drag it to your second monitor.

Two Xcode app icons in launchpad after 4.5 install

After updating Xcode via App Store, I now have 2 Xcode apps in my launchpad. I can delete the new one by holding my mouse button down and clicking the x that appears, but only for the new one.
The easiest way to fix this is to head to your applications folder, (Using the menu bar, not a dock folder) and manually moving Xcode to your trash. After that, open launchpad and let it update. Both Xcodes will be gone. Then open your trash and right click Xcode, select Put Back. Voila, you fixed your problem and didn't even have to re-download!
If moving the app to trash and back does not solve the problem, try this command in the Terminal before you move the app back from the trash:
killall Dock
Run command in terminal will reset launchpad, it works for me
defaults write com.apple.dock ResetLaunchPad -bool true; killall Dock
NOTE: This will reset arrangement of you apps order by alphabetic.

how can I launch textmate from Mac Finder based on a directory I see in finder?

how can I launch textmate from Mac Finder based on a directory I see in finder?
i.e. open up TextMate with the contents of that folder
e.g. I see no folder - right click - open with XXX option in Mac
Just drag the folder icon on TextMate's icon in your dock.
EDIT
Two other ways:
You can do the same with the proxy icon situated in the Finder window's title bar. It can be useful in situations where you would loose your state when grabbing the current folder's icon.
You can use this handy little app to open the current folder from the Finder window's toolbar.

"Beautifying" an OS X disk image

When I downloaded Skype, I noticed that, in place of a normal "disk image" icon, there was a custom icon, and when I double clicked on the icon, the window used a colorful image as the background, prompting me to drag the skype icon into the applications folder.
How can I do that with my applications?
Thanks,
Jason
Let me add to the other answers jwz's howto on setting view options on .dmg files. This is the simplest one that I got to work with no problems.
Also, to change the icon from the default .dmg icon:
In the Finder, open an inspector window (^I) for the file whose icon you want to use, click on the icon at the top (it will get a blue border) and copy it to the clipboard (^C).
Then open another inspector for your .dmg, click on the icon and press ^V to paste
(you can change the icon for any file like this).
For this kind of thing, you can always look at open-source programs and see what they do to get a similar result. For example here are the relevant source files for building pretty dmg files in:
Adium
Miro
If you’re interested in a commercial solution, there are a number of DMG designer apps available, including the following I gleaned from a MacUpdate search:
DMG Packager
DMG Architect
DMG Canvas
This is a great freeware solution for a custom background with zero hassle:
