I am using an early 2011 MacBook Pro and have recently installed SecureCRT.
I was previously using an old 2006 model but the problem at hand was not present with my old machine.
Both machines running OSX Yosemite 10.10.1.
When viewing any session in SecureCRT, the vertical scroll speed when using the trackpad is insanely fast. I have checked my System Preferences and the vertical scroll speed is normal when using browsers, text editors, pdf viewers etc.
There are no apparent settings within SecureCRT to manipulate the vertical trackpad scroll speed, yet I question why this only affects this application.
I have posted a question to the VanDyke forums but to no avail have I received an answer just yet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this juiced up scroll speed is slowing my work efficiency.
The trackpad speed issue is related to the version of SecureCRT and the version of OSX.
I have been running SecureCRT v6.6 on OSX Yosemite 10.10.1 on the new machine and it is surprising that I can even load the application without crashing as there should be a Python Library mismatch.
VanDyke Rep: "For one, I am not sure how you are running SecureCRT v6.6 on Yosemite at all. The first version to officially support Yosemite is 7.3.x. To my recollection, running anything much older than v7.2 would cause crashes due to a Python library mismatch."
I have upgraded SecureCRT to version 7 and trackpad scroll speed is back to normal.

I am using MacBook Air with Catalina OS. When I hit top command it shows an app Electron consuming about 50% RAM.
I tried uninstalling it but can't find in application list. I have not installed this Electron app explicitly and don't know how it came on my machine.
How to uninstall this as I am not using it?
Top command output:
A quick search shows that Electron is a framework on which google chrome (to name one) runs. So you cant really uninstall it, however you could try, closing a few chrome windows or tabs. A blog gives a solution to this issue by replacing Electron apps as a whole (like using safari instead of chrome), which is not an option for everyone but is worth considering.

Personally my advice would be to upgrade to Mac OS Big Sur(if your mac is supported) as I experience some performance increase and found that it was generally more optimised.
I recently got an update (macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 Update), and it seems to have messed with the display a bit.
I use Octave (v4.2.2) to run experiments off of my laptop (MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5), which requires me to put images on the screen (Psychtoolbox v3.0.14). Since I updated my computer the script errors out at the point where I attempt to put anything on the screen. Unfortunately, because of a bug with Octave, I can't see an error message, so I don't know the exact nature of the problem.
Apart for this problem with Octave, the screen randomly switches to "static" (like the old school TVs!). This only lasts for half a second before it switches back. But I can't help but wonder if both problems have a common root.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

right now i am running the OS X Yosemite beta 10.10, after upgrading my OS X i lost my camera, i tried everything in the forums, but nothing helped.
i can't FaceTime, or Skype or anything. normally i would take it in to an apple store, but the closest apple store to me is about 200 miles away.
since i am beta testing OS X Yosemite, i knew i was going to have some problems, but i need this to work
also; i also installed the update 2 days ago as it was recommended in the app store.
(not a hardware problem, was working perfectly before the upgrade and it is not found in the "system info> USB"); also not user specific.
Open your terminal and type this command:
$ sudo Killall VDCAssistant
Now, go to your Skype->Preferences->Audio/Video and you can see the webcam working.
Have a good one!
Apparently, this problem persists even in the recent versions of OS X Yosemite. I also had this problem. So, the answer to solve it is basically resetting the SMC, which Apple provides instructions in https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
Now, I was not able to sort it even by resetting the SMC in a Macbook Pro 15 mid 2012. At least, not immediately. As I keep a few things connected in the USB ports, I believe it might have been the reason, so I closed all my applications (just in case), turned off the computer, unplugged all the USB and thunderbolt connectors (yes, including the LAN adaptor), as well as the earphone connector to speakers. THEN, reset the SMC (for non-removable battery computers, by pressing and releasing control-shift-alt-power [left shift] simultaneously while connected to power). For me, it worked.
It might be useful to remember that the SMC is the System Management Controller, that takes care of the hardware in a low-level, including i/o, keyboard backlight, speakers, camera... so, if you are going to reset it, it might make sense to release all the possible burden it might feel.
Resetting SMC is the only thing that solved the problem on my MBP Mid-2012.
The issue came about around the time I upgraded to High Sierra.
This issue is solved with the newest update of OSX Yosemite. Just update through the Appstore app and everything will be normal.
I recently updated my MacBook Pro (2.3 GHz Intel Core i5) from Lion to Mountain Lion and simultaneously upgraded Xcode to the latest 4.5 version. I've experienced one very irritating problem. While programming I'm used to have a couple of tabs opened at a time. Ever since I updated, each time I switch tabs, Xcode freezes up for a bit (a couple of seconds). Does anyone have a suggestion to solve this problem?
I followed a tip on deleting project.xcworkspace to improve performance. Which seamed to help, but only for a short period of time.
It's a common issue and was fixed in XCode 4.5.1.
https://devforums.apple.com/thread/167765?tstart=0
If you have multiple partitions (maybe a backup of Lion was kept) ensure that xcode really comes from the Mountain Lion partition.
The App Store App update for Xcode seems to take the first Xcode.app it finds and will apply any update to that version. In my case it updated the (inactive) Lion partition, even so I booted from the ML partition.
xcode-select did not complain when I tried to change it to the ML version.
So I ended up doing the great housekeeping:
do a chmod 000 /Volume/<old Lion partition>/Applications/Xcode.app
installed a fresh copy on Xcode.app into /Applications
verify the destination of the dock icon (must point to the ML Xcode.app)
My Xcode is now fast as before and it remains fast. You can get the Xcode dmg and the command line tools from https://developer.apple.com/downloads/index.action. I don't think there is a difference in the binaries, but with the DMG I could see where I dropped the Xcode.app.
I found your question before I discovered a partial solution.
As of today, I find XCode 4.6.1 GUI dog slow for my taste, specially considering that I run on a one year old mac, SSD, compile to a 2GB RAM disk and still have 6GB RAM left. Even Eclipse runs lightning fast compared to XCode
4.5.1 did improve something, but after a long time using XCode I do not have any hope for some of its problems being solved ever.
That being said, I have noticed that "Live issues", the main tool bar and all the panels slow down tab switching to same degree. The biggest offender so far are the navigator panels.
Once I got used to a minimalistic Xcode window, layout some specific task tabs, keep a separate window for xibs and learned the shortcuts to enable/disable the panels, I no longer suffer so much with XCode responsiveness, but there is still some lag that can be clearly felt.
Check that there is not heavy coding on ViewWillDisappear.
Also if you have NSURLConnection or any other having delegate methods should not get called while switching tabs.
I'm trying to make a screen saver using the cocoa screensaver framework. The project builds fine and generates the .saver file, but when I try to run it in the preferences test window, it displays the error message:
"You cannot use the screen saver with this version of Mac OSX. Please contact the vendor to get a newer version of the screen saver"
I have the xcode settings to Release | x86_64, and I am running OSX 10.6.6 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 Macbook Pro. I've searched around online, and most of the solutions to this error message seem addressed to making sure the build is 64-bit, which the x86_64 setting should indeed take care of. I am trying to play a QT movie in the screensaver, if that makes any difference.
I am at a loss, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Make sure the Garbage Collector settings is set to at least "Supported". A lot of hosted frameworks will now require this setting - for instance Preference Panels need to be at least at "Supported" or it will cause System Preferences to restart its self (as with 32bit)
