Running a brand new mac (OS 10.10.4) with Pages 5.5.3
I have always used Word for typing, but i'm going to try to get by with pages for now.
I often have to convert docs to PDF in batch and have always relied on applescript - not only can I not create a script to do that with pages, it seems Pages will not understand anything beyond 'open'/'activate':
tell application "Pages"
activate
set myDoc to front document
end tell
Returns:
error: "Pages got an error: Can't get document 1."
I have tried numerous other very simple scripts posted by others (who claim to use them successfully) to no avail. Is this a known issue? Am I missing something horribly simple?
In case anyone runs into this same problem, I updated OS X software (which I hadn't done since I bought the computer) and it now works.
#CRGreen above points out that it works for him with 10.10.4, mine is at 10.10.5 and works fine (don't think it's the version that was the issue, but perhaps some app support that didn't come preinstalled? who knows)
Also as a sidenote for anyone interested, the batch convert to PDF that works for pages is
open myFile
export document 1 to pdfFile as PDF
close document 1 saving no
If anyone can shed some light as to what was actually going on & post as an answer it'd be very welcome.

How does one run Google Keep or other websites like an app or kiosk on a Windows PC.
Since I figured this out and nobody seems to of had a response, I made my own question and answered it. Credit to OurCodeWorld for helping figure out some of the fine tuning. He had a --chrome-frame flag, but I believe that is depreciated, so I am looking into it. But it seems to work fine without it
TLDR: Create a shortcut to chrome and add --app= this to the end of it. like this --app=https://keep.google.com/u/0/.
Now if you want it to have a specific size window? Well, you will have to add --window-size=WIDTH,LENGTH. But... Chrome saves the size of the last window closed, which If you use Chrome as a browser, this will change frequently. To solve this, we create a separate user-data directory --user-data-dir="C:\ExampleDir". This folder is around 50mb of who knows what...
So the whole thing put together, like this.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --user-data-dir="%localappdata%\GoogleKeep\User Data" --window-size=950,1000 --app=https://keep.google.com/u/0/
MacOS 10.13.6 Chrome Version 77.0.3865.90
I would like to open 20 different Facebook Group Pages with Chrome (I Do Not EVER Use Safari) with a "batch" file. I know that's a 'Windows' term but that's all I know...
Here's What I Do Now:
Once the Chrome Browser is up, I can open them one at a time from 'Notes' with all the links in one file and then clicking on one link, then click back to notes and click on the next link...
I'd like to save a lot of Daily labor by creating a desktop file I can click on to open them all at once...
I have 41 different groups I use but on my system Chrome can open 20 at a time without a lot of 'WAIT' Time...
I'm REALLY IGNORANT! All the Experience I have is DOS 3.1, from the 1980s-90s I hope one of You WIZARDS can help me with this problem...
Note: I Tried to post what I know how to do but the system won't allow me to put it in since it's now BAD Code(Example I know...Start “facebook-1” www.facebook.com/The Holy Bible).
Thanx HEAPS!

I would say the most user-friendly way to achieve this is using Apples build in Automator App.
Here is what I did:
Create a new Automator Program.
I added a "Get Specified URLs" block. Here you can add all the websites you want to open up.
Then I added a "Run Shell Script" block that contains the code to open up Chrome for every url you entered above. Just make sure to pick "As Argument" in the top right of the block.
Once saved all your websites should open up at once.
My system language is set to german but you should be fine to follow along.
I cannot seem to find an answer to how to write my applescript to
Right-Click on a listing in the Applications Folder to open the Get Info option window to open to read in the Version field so I can compare it against my expect value.
I have spent about 6 hours, and I am kind of a noob. I can understand what is happening once I see it, but creating from scratch is just taking a long time for me. Thanks.
You don't need ugly GUI scripting, every application even without AppleScript dictionary responds to the version property
set appVersion to version of application "Maps"
I am trying to incorporate my applescript into xcode. the script works normally with applescript but not ran in xcode. I am trying to open the file for reading. here is the code
set Location to "US"
set DriverFile to "/Volumes/MacPrintDrivers/" & Location & "DriverInstall.txt"
set DriverInstallFile to POSIX file DriverFile
open for access DriverInstallFile
i have confirmed the file exists and i can display the contents. i can't seem to read this way in Xcode. the error i get is
«script» doesn’t understand the «event rdwropen» message. (error -1708)
ASOC (AppleScript Objective-C) has some problems with scripting addition commands (such as open for access). Sometimes you can work around this by saying tell current application to, e.g. tell current application to open for access. But for further details I suggest you get Shane Stanley's book: http://www.macosxautomation.com/applescript/apps/ He has explored this in great depth.
Hi we have been using PGRFileManager for a while with ckeditor but it has just come to light that when using a mac users can't upload files, does anyone know what could be the cause?
Users can get the file browser to appear and select a file but when they click the green arrow to upload the file just disappears.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this or how to fix it.
I was thinking about giving something like the kc finder a go but as users are used to the pgr file manager thought that I should give it a bash to fix it.
I've read around and I'm using a session var to set the location which has worked well.
And it's an absolute location so that's fine. (One of the solutions was to make sure that this was the case)
Has anyone got any further ideas?
Thanks
Richard
