I currently have a windows phone 8.1 application in the store and have decided to upgrade it to windows 10 UWP. I've created a new version of the app from scratch using VS 2015 3 RC and used the options in the project menu to associate the app with one already on my account.
When I do this the appxmanifest file is updated with the wrong PublisherDisplayName - instead of my name it's coming up with Microsoft account. If I build the package with this name it all completes without error however if I change to to what is on my developer account then I get the following error
The PublisherDisplayName element of the Properties element in the app manifest must have the value of the Publisher display name value from your developer account: Microsoft account
I've tried logging out/in on my developer account, repairing VS, reinstalling VS etc. confirmed my developer account has the correct name but still the problem occurs.
Any suggestions right now would be most welcome!
I was having the same issue, I believe it's because the Package.StoreAssociation.xml doesn't download/build correctly, and then if you change your publisher name in the Package.appmanifest then the two don't align.
To fix this, make sure that the
<PublisherDisplayName></PublisherDisplayName>
element in the Package.StoreAssociation.xml file (usually found in the root of your project) is set to the same as the
Dev centre -> Account Settings -> Public info -> Publisher display name
which is also set to the same as your "publisher display name" in your
package.appmanifest -> Packaging tab.
This should resolve your problem.

We have a laravel app (Version 5.5*) deployed in WIndows Server 2012 R2. But our development stack is LEMP. Same codebase works fine in development STACK but fails in WINDOWS SERVER.
Problem:
In our App, there is a REPORT DOWNLOAD queueable job which reads data from database table and generates an excel file using box/spout package(version 2.7) depending on user input date range (daily, weekly, monthly, etc) .
When running the queue:work command from cmd as administrator,
$writer->openToFile(‘path/to/file’) throws an error : failed to open stream : no such file or directory.
See this image for code snippet throwing error
Solutions I tried:
Setting right permissions(full control Read & write) for Storage folder of my project (For Users, IIS_IUSRS,IUSR)
Setting right permissions(full control Read & write) for C:windows\Temp folder (For Users, IIS_IUSRS,IUSR)
Created symlink for storage folder inside public
FYI:
OS: windows server 2012 r2
PHP: 7.2*
Laravel: 5.5.*
box/Spout package: 2.7.*
** AT LAST GOT THE SOLUTION AFTER GOING THROUGH ANSWERS OF OTHER QUESTIONS RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM **
You can follow the following procedure:
Go to IIS Manager
Select your desired project (For example: myexampledomain.com) listed under Sites
Go to Security tab and you'll see the users listed with their permissions on the folder.
Now, click Edit button to go to a new window and click Add. In the text box, type IIS AppPool\MyApplicationPoolName.In our example it should be IIS AppPool\myexampledomain.com.
Click Check Name and you'll see the test change with underline.
Click Ok. Add the appropriate permission(Modify, read, write) to the newly created user.
That's it!!!
Thanks to all for responding.
I'm creating a cordova app for Windows.
Now when I build this normally (with my own identity of which I have no clue where he gets it from) everything works fine and my app launches with success.
Although when I then associate my app with the Store, and have my actual app name + package name etc filled in for me, I get a blank screen when trying to run my app.
The head and body tags stay empty and no error is thrown in my JavaScript console.
Any idea of why this happens? The problem definitely is that I associate my app with the Store and then something happens which makes my app crash or fail to start.
But why does it do this? And how can I resolve it?
(currently building with VS2017)
edit
Alright, so I figured out that because the package name changed, I had to edit that as well in the manifest. Now My main root component is loaded, but it isn't setting the app root to any page, just a blank screen. (with a menu that can open on swipe).
Alright, so my Microsoft assigned package name was different than my own. This caused the app to look for my own package name instead of the Microsoft one I associated with.
The solution was quite simple, just set your widget-id in your config.xml to the Microsoft assigned package name and rebuild your solution.
(I was using Ionic framework so re-execute ionic build windows --release --prod --arch="arm")
I have created outlook addin for Outlook 2013 64 bit.
In that Addin, i have created Form region with custom controls.
Then with the reference of http://blogs.msdn.com/b/emeamsgdev/archive/2013/11/21/outlook-deploying-an-outlook-2013-add-in-using-installshield-le.aspx i created setup file for Addin.
Now i installed it in my computer and everything works fine.
However when i try to install it on client computer, it doesn't show addin in outlook.
and i am not able to find any reason.?
I have also created registry for my addins
If it simply doesn't load, without errors, it only means one thing, outlook is unaware of your addin, cause even when addins are not working, outlook gives you an error or turns the LoadBehaviour regkey to '2'.
On your client, you should check that the registry values are set properly.
**HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Outlook_PROJECT_ADDIN
If your addin doesn't work, check to see if those values exist, and if they do, what happens when outlook loads ? does LoadBehavior turns to '2' instead of 3 ?
If so, and it works perfectly on your pc, it probably means you have issues with the Manifest regkey, make sure the manifest points to a valid local location followed by a |vstolocal
so its syntax should be something like:
file:///C:/Outlook_Proj.vsto|vstolocal
Also make sure you have .Net Framework v4.0 installed on your target PC.
If you're trying to install it to a network drive, make sure you remove the '|vstolocal| thingy, and add the network drive to the trusted zone in Internet Explorer Settings.
Hope the following steps will help you solve this problem if you are still facing it.
Run the deployed setup with administration rights.
If it is not shown under Add-ins, open the setup folder and double click on the .vsto file then select install.
If you can see the addin among the others, and is not functioning it means it is disabled. To enable the add-in(since you are using outlook 2013), go to File -> Slow and Disabled Add-ins, and you shold see your add-in on the pop-upped window. Enable it.
Create the VSTO_SUPRESSDISPLAYALERTS = 0 enviorment variable to get any VSTO alerts. Take a look in the Windows event viewer and off course be sure of being installed the pre requisistes like Office Primary assembles and VSTO for office. Another think, check if your adding was not crashed once and move to inactive add-in list. Search registry for Resiliency key.
I want to have an app which i can use for many resellers.
so for example my projectname / namespace etc. is myApp and now i want to copy all the stuff in a searate svn branch and rename some strings, change some pictures etc.
The problem is that if i install the copy (via visual Studio) my original app get uninstalled.
Does this also happen if the app comes via Store download?
how to prevent Windows Phone from uninstalling the first app when the second one is installed?
Thank you...
A Windows Phone application is identified by its product ID, specified in the manifest. So, to answer your questions:
The issue won't happen on the store, because a new product ID will automatically be generated when you submit your app
To prevent the issue you're facing, just change the product ID in the WMAppManifest.xml file
I have a very simple VS2005 deployment project that aims to install for all users on a PC.
All the application files are written to %Program Files%\MyProg. A shortcut is created in the start menu and the startup folder. No registry settings or anything else are created. I have set
'InstallAllUsers' to true.
The created MSI runs fine and installs the software. It works without any problems when running under the user account from which it was installed.
When logging in as another user, the start menu and startup icons are present. It attempts to launch the application however an installation window pops up and states that 'the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.' The installer will only proceed if pointed to the original MSI file.
Why does this happen? I want my application to be installed completely for all users when it is installed by a single user.
edit: Solution
I was getting similar event log messages as shown on this page. In my case it turned out to be as simple as ensuring that the User's Program Menu had its 'AlwaysCreate' attribute turned to false. If it was true, windows would try and recreate the folder when a new user logged in. This somehow required the invocation of the installer and thus resulted in the 'please insert the installation media' prompts.
It is actually kind of hard to say without some more information. I would recommend checking on the rights in the installed folder (seeing if only the one who installed it has rights) and also checking the file list for the directory (to make sure VS didn't automatically place some files in the user profile). Let me know what comes out from those two steps and we can try to keep digging if that didn't shed any light on it.
Keep in mind chances are this is most def not specific to Visual Studio, look at this MS support article here where the same message is coming back for office.
I know this is an old post but I thought I'd add another cause and solution in case the above didn't work for you.
There is a bug in VS Setup and Deployment Projects which results in registry values being entered into HKCU instead of HKLM irrespective of the InstallAllUsers property being set to true.
You must use Orca msi editor to change the registry root for "DesktopFolder" and "ProgramMenuFolder" from either 1 or 2 to -1. The issue cannot be resolved via VS.
