non-JRMP server at remote endpoint - oracle-nosql

I am trying to figure out how to use Oracle nosql. I have downloaded and installed version 4.3.11 (with examples). I have started kvlite both with default params and with the following:
java -jar lib/kvstore.jar kvlite -port 5000 -root kvroot -host
When I run the examples as described at https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26161_02/html/GettingStartedGuide/verifykvlite.html, exceptions are thrown.
Unfortunately, I cannot post the stacktrace as it is on another server that is not accessible from here.
Some of the errors are:
Could not contact any RepNode at: [localhost:5000]
non-JRMP server at remote endpoint
Any assistance would be appreciated.
-Raymond

I suspect you are trying to connect to a secured store without specifying the secured connection parameters. Oracle NoSQL has enabled security by default. The simplest thing you can try is to start kvlite with security disabled.
java -Xmx256m -Xms256m -jar KVHOME/lib/kvstore.jar kvlite -secure-config disable
also, I noticed you were looking at docs for older version. The latest NoSQL is now 4.4.6 and the docs are breathing here - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/NOSQL/html/GettingStartedGuide/kvlite-usage.html

How do I upgrade Apache Tomcat from 6.0.20 to 6.0.24?

Our security team has scanned our production server and identified vulnerabilities with Apache Tomcat server v 6.0.20.
They have recommended that Apache be upgraded to 6.0.24. Reading through the forums, I believe this is the process to do so
Take a backup of httpd.conf file
Using add remove programs, uninstall version 6.0.20
Install 6.0.24
But, I have some questions depending on a quick test I did to install 6.0.20 and upgrade it to 6.0.24
Where do I get Tomcat administrator login information?
Is it enough just to backup the HTTPD.CONF file? I was thinking to back up everything in the Apache folder instead.
Is it possible not to upgrade 6.0.20 to 6.0.24 by running the MSI installer over the same Apache folder? Is it due to the HTTP/1.1 Connector Port being busy/used that doesn't allow an update of Tomcat on the same port?
Is a restart of the server required after upgrade?
Last but not the least, I am using these executables to test the upgrade. 6.0.20 gets installed fine but when I run 6.0.24, it prompts me for the JRE path and directing it to 6.0.20 JVM Path gives me a message that "JVM is not found". The JVM info on the Apache manager is in this directory
What am I missing here?
I need your thoughts and advice to make this as easy as possible since this is a production server.

intellij idea 14 cannot connect to debug tomcat7 service

Ok, I think I tried everything before I am posting this question. Please tell me, what I am (Still) missing. I keep getting "unable to connect" exception (unable to connect hostname:6012), I changed from default port 1099 and it still didn't help.
version of IntelliJ 14.0.2
Tomcat 7.0.52
Tomcat is running as a service so, I configured on the UI interface of tomcat.exe (java tab) the following JAVA_OPTs
-Xdebug
-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=57497,server=y,suspend=n
-javaagent:C:\Users\username\.IntelliJIdea14\system\groovyHotSwap\gragent.jar
-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote
-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=6012
-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.authenticate=false
-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false
-Dcatalina.home=C:\Tomcat 7.0
-Dcatalina.base=C:\Tomcat 7.0
-XX:MaxPermSize=512m
I made sure the port 57497 is open (open the firewall and telnet).
And on IntelliJ, I made a remote server connection. Please find attached
pictures. Both intellij and tomcat are running on the same system. I have a static dns setup. sometimes i get connection timedout exception.
server tab
connection tab
Here's my config.
Tomcat JAVA_OPTs to enable remote debugging:
-Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=5007
In IntelliJ, I don't use the Configuration-Type 'Tomcat'. In my case 'Remote' works pretty well (I would post an image but I ain't got 10 reputation...). You only need to configure your host and port on the config sheet.
I use IntelliJ 14.0.3 and I had the same issue, though with Jetty. Switching to using the remote instead of jetty -> remote worked. I'm guessing they're both supposed to work differently. I just haven't figured out why there are two different options to remote debug.

Running xd-shell and admin-ui against a HTTPS xd-admin in springxd 1.0.1 release

I installed springxd 1.0.1 release. I configured spring-xd to run in HTTPS mode by enabling the SSL properties as specified in https://github.com/spring-projects/spring-xd/wiki/Application-Configuration#enabling-https. I am able to start the xd admin and containers successfully after that. I set the httpSSL.properties as well. However, I am not able to get the xd shell properly. or admin UI to run. I know I have to specify these new ssl properties for them to use, but I am not sure where. The output when I run xd shell is:
1.0.1.RELEASE | Admin Server Target: http://localhost:9393
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Error: Unable to contact XD Admin Server at 'http://localhost:9393'.
Please execute 'admin config info' for more details.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the Spring XD shell. For assistance hit TAB or type "help".
server-unknown:>
When I try the admin-ui, I just get a 'Connection Interrupted' error.
EDIT: I tried basic authentication by enabling the properties in servers.yml. With this I am able to get the admin-ui to work, but shell still does not work. I am trying to find which configurations I need to set to make this work unsuccessfully. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Any pointers are greatly appreciated.
thanks much,
AG
Asha,
A few clarifications:
You do not need to change httpSSL.properties, that is necessary only for configuring HTTPS for the HTTP source.
Since you've enabled https, you must change the target URL accordingly, as follows:
xd:> admin config server https://localhost:9393
(please note that the protocol is https now)
If you also enable Basic security, you must add the configuration parameters to the configuration command, as in this example:
xd:> admin config server --uri https://localhost:9393 --username adminUserName --password adminPassword
(As described in the reference documentation)
Hope this helps,
Marius

Install Liferay as Windows 2012R2 service

I am a newbie on Liferay and furthermore 100% Windows infrastructure knowledge based. I installed Liferay 6.2 on my Windows 2012R2 server together with Java jdk-8u5 version. All is running perfect as long as I am logged in as user on the Server via remotedesktop having open the tomcat startup.bat window.
What have I to do exactly to start Liferay and/or tomcat as service?
Thanks in advance for your efforts.
Configuring liferay or tomcat to run as a service on a windows server doesn't differ that much.So in order to do that you have to add some files to the LIFERAY_HOME\tomcat\bin directory.
To get those files you have to download a full version of 64-bitWindows tomcat from here :
http://tomcat.apache.org/download-70.cgi.
Extract the zip and go to the bin directory, copy service.bat , tomcat7.exe and tomcat7w.exe to this location : LIFERAY_HOME\tomcat\bin
Setting Up the service
Open the commad prompt (Make sure you have admin rights or run the command prompt as administrator),In Command Prompt go to LIFERAY_HOME\tomcat\bin and Execute the following command
service.bat install tomcat7
This will install the tomcat6 service in windows.
Now execute following commond to setup additional configuration for the service
tomcat7w.exe ES tomcat7.exe
2 . Extra configuration :
-XX:MaxPermSize=512m
-Dfile.encoding=UTF8
-Duser.timezone=GMT
-Djava.security.auth.login.config="%CATALINA_HOME%/conf/jaas.config"
-Dorg.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.ENABLE_CLEAR_REFERENCES=false
and make sure to provide enough memory for your service by setting the initial memory pool and the maximum one.
Either go with Rafik Beldi's answer (quite an effort, wow) or just go to tomcat's documentation in case you're still missing some information
I had to delete what was in Java Options completely or it wouldn't start: and then I entered:
-XX:MaxPermSize=512m
-Dfile.encoding=UTF8
-Duser.timezone=America/New_York
-Dorg.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.ENABLE_CLEAR_REFERENCES=false
-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
note that where I am: America/New_York allows for both EST and EDT

import neo4j database from windows to ubuntu

I have created a neo4j database on my windows machine.
I have transferred the content of the database directory to my linux machine. This is because I have the community edition which does not support the backup functions.
mtt#mttPC:/var/lib/neo4j/data/log$ sudo service neo4j-service start

The file messages.log in the database directory says nothing.
Any idea? Are the windows and linux neo4js compatible? Thank you.
Edit
I have made a fresh install of neo4j on my ubuntu machine.
Now I finally get some logs:
2014-05-16 20:01:10.958+0000 ERROR [o.n.k.EmbeddedGraphDatabase]: Startup failed: Component 'org.neo4j.kernel.impl.transaction.XaDataSourceManager#25984c63' was successfully initialized, but failed to start. Please see attached cause exception.: Component 'org.neo4j.kernel.impl.nioneo.xa.NeoStoreXaDataSource#3d34dcb' was successfully initialized, but failed to start. Please see attached cause exception.: 'neostore' has a store version number that we cannot upgrade from. Expected 'NeoStore v0.A.0' but file is version 'NeoStore v0.A.2'.
2014-05-16 20:01:10.958+0000 INFO [o.n.k.EmbeddedGraphDatabase]: Shutdown started
I should be related to this but I am not sure how to proceed. Is the issue related to the fact that when I copied the database, I just stopped neo4j on my windows machine from the neo4j window?
There is no reason why a Neo4j database should not be transferable between operating systems. Can you please provide the output of data/log/console.log? First thought is that you may have permission issues. The files should be read/write for the user the Neo4j process will run as.
