I have a scenario where I would like to test many different sites using one base Test Plan. All of those sites makes roughly the same calls (a shopping scenario), but some sites makes additional calls.
To make it simple, let's say I have two sites to test, site A and site B. Each test site has a test folder containing their custom external plans. Right now I have a "base" Test Plan, let's call it TP, and one external file, let's call that EP (External Plan) only in site A. In site B I have no external files (because it does not have any additional calls).
I tried calling the EP for site A, using an Include Controller, from TP and that works fine, but when I run TP against site B the external file (EP) does not exist and the test will not even start.
The problem is that JMeter only runs when the external file actually exist on the path (you can not even start the test if Include Controller is not passed a valid file.
My goal is to make this scenario module in a way that you add an external file to each site's test-folder for each "special call" that is made. If the site in question has no "special calls", no external file should be added. If we add a new site, we should not have to add external files to all other sites!
For example, having an option for Include Controller like ignore missing file would help immensely, but alas there is no such option.
How can I make my scenario modular with JMeter?

how is it adviced to alternate between online and local development, since you want to modify your websites on local.
Do you systematically change all URLs (by search/replace) in your project code to fit local URL type and sometimes create personal SSL certificate for https, or do you use another solution like localhost aliases, rewrite rules, or online developpement tools?
What could be an automatic solution in order to avoid this fastidious modifications like search/replace sometimes looking quite primitive and time costing since I develop during the few hours left after my main work.
What are the operation modes to facilitate developpment,
Have a nice day,
for all the biginners, here's the thing.
I've created a config.php file which contains constants: one config file for the local project folder and one for the online server folder.
Inside this config file, I've create a constant (constant are then available everywhere in the project) to define the main URL of the project. e.g.:
define('CST_MAIN_URL',http://www.myproject.com); // for the online config.php file
define('CST_MAIN_URL',http://localhost:8888); // for the local config.php file
Thus, each header or redirection can work with that constant, like:
header('location:' . CST_MAIN_URL . 'index.php');
Then, things must have to do with RewriteEngine in your htaccess file, for instance whenever you must modify the behavior of MAMP/WAMP if an interrogation point or a slash provokes you with its malicious resistance. But, unfortunately RegEx expression must be understood as a basic level for mastering those url rewritings.
Hope it'll helps.
I'm working on a project regarding website test automation and I hope someone can help me with this question?
How would you recommend setting up some automated test processes that would not constantly need to be updated to test each of the core flows to test the following for a website:
login
register
sign in with facebook
save an item
delete an item
test that the few key pages (both logged in and logged out) are working like
Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure if I understand well.
But here is an instance of project setup.
Split your KeywordTest section into two folders:
A Test folder: it should contain all the KeywordTests that are called when you run your testsuite. Each of those KeywordTests should test a specific feature (Verify_Login_Fail, Verify_Login_Success...)
A Library folder: it should contain all your KeywordTests that are reusable and that might be used often from your Test folder KeywordTests. It's a kind of function library. It avoids code repetition and is easier to maintain.
For instance, you can create a KeywordTest that takes as parameter a Login and Password and that proceeds with the actions on your website to log a user in.
Store the sensible data (that might change often) in file or a database rather than hardcode it. For instance a file Login.csv where you store all the combination of login and password you want to test.
You have to write all the steps into in a class which should be in your library package and then you have to call all the methods from your test class of test package. You should use testng in your test class then create a testsuit of test class and run the script.
I need to bypass an MVC route for an application where the developer left - we're going to fully replace it, but for now if I can bypass this one route, it'll save us a ton of time.
The route is (e.g.) www.this.site/path/subpath
Since it's on IIS, I can take advantage of the default document and create the following folder / file structure: /path/subpath/index.htm
However if I do this, I'll "break" the parent www.this.site/path route (it throws a 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied) because I now have an actual file folder where the /path/ route was.
Is there a way to get around this / have IIS defer to MVC on /path/ but still handle the child html file?
thanks. Again, this is not intended as a long term solution but a work-around until we can replace the app entirely.
Perhaps a better workaround would be to use the IIS AAR module and it's reverse proxy functionality out the app.
To do so:
a) stand up the app at it's own site the proper path -- so it should work at something like http://localhost:1234/path/subpath/index.htm
b) install IIS AAR module and enable the reverse proxy functions using the WebPI and the IIS management tools
c) Ignore the /path/subpath route in your app
d) Add a virtual directory for /path/subpath to IIS
e) Configure that to reverse back to localhost:1234 or whatever port you configured the site
This will keep the legacy app completely separate while keeping the public facing URLs looking correct for the rest of the world.
My company runs a 4GL application internally. It's very old and no one really knows how to improve/develop for it since the developers are long gone.
I need to make a simple SOAP call to my Magento web store. There are tons of examples online in a multitude of languages, but I can't find a single 4GL (OpenEdege ABL) example.
I'm trying to set SKU's to Out of stock status.
Does anyone have a simple example that I can look at, or at least a starting point since there seems to be so little information on 4GL on the web.
Example of the call I need in PHP:
<?php
$proxy = new SoapClient('http://www.domain.com/api/soap/?wsdl');
$sessionId = $proxy->login('admin', 'password');
$proxy->call($sessionId, 'product_stock.update', array('sku123', array('qty'=>50, 'is_in_stock'=>1)));
For version 10.2B there's built in support for consuming web services in Progress ABL.
This is a basic tutorial of how to create a client for a SOAP-based web service in ABL. It's not best practices or in any way complete. Just a quick guide to get started.
1. Analyse the WSDL
There's a built in tool available via command line that lets you analyse a WSDL and create documentation about available services, datatypes, syntax etc. Invoke it on your wsdl like this:
proenv> bprowsdldoc yourwsdl-file c:\temp\docs
The wsdl can be local or remote. If its remote you specify the URL, if it's local you can specify just the local complete path. Documentation in html format will end up in c:\temp\docs. Open up index.html in that folder.
2. Create a basic client
In the index.html document there's a number of headings. Click the link under "Port types". In the Port Type document you will find some useful data.
Copy-and-paste the example in "Connection Details" into your Progress Editor. It should look something like this (names of services and procedures will be different - they are defined in the wsdl):
DEFINE VARIABLE hWebService AS HANDLE NO-UNDO.
DEFINE VARIABLE hYYY AS HANDLE NO-UNDO.
CREATE SERVER hWebService.
hWebService:CONNECT("-WSDL 'file_or_url_to_wsdl.wsdl'").
RUN XXX SET hYYY ON hWebService.
If you run this code your client is connected to the web service but it's still not doing anything.
Further down the same document there's a heading called "Operation (internal procedure) details". This is where the actual web service is invoked. It will look something like the code below. It actually show two ways of making the same call, one functional call and one procedural so choose whatever you prefer and insert it into your editor (I'm usually using the procedural for no real reason other than old habits):
DEFINE VARIABLE strXMLRequest AS CHARACTER NO-UNDO.
DEFINE VARIABLE ProcessXMLResult AS CHARACTER NO-UNDO.
FUNCTION ProcessXML RETURNS CHARACTER
(INPUT strXMLRequest AS CHARACTER)
IN hYYY.
/* Function invocation of ProcessXML operation. */
ProcessXMLResult = ProcessXML(strXMLRequest).
/* Procedure invocation of ProcessXML operation. */
RUN ProcessXML IN hYYY (INPUT strXMLRequest, OUTPUT ProcessXMLResult).
Now all you need to end your program is disconnecting and cleaning up. So insert:
hWebService:DISCONNECT().
DELETE OBJECT hWebService.
If you've followed all steps you should have a skeleton for invoking a web service. The only problem is that you need to handle the in- and out-data.
3. Handle the answer and the request
Depending on how the web service is built this can be easy (if you only input and output simple data like strings and numbers) or quite complicated (if you input and output entire xml-documents). The documentation you created in step one lists all datatypes (in the index.html document) but it doesn't offer any support in how you create any needed xml documents. There's specific Progress documentation available on how to work with xml...
The better approach is to take a look at the official documentation. There you will find everything above and more - how to handle errors etc.
Here is an overview of all 10.2B documentation and here is the PDF named Web Services.
Here is a link to a complete (but actually not so good) example in the Progress KnowledgeBase where a client and corresponding request/response xml is created and handled.
Look at these chapters:
6 - Creating an ABL Client from WSDL
7 - Connecting to Web Services from ABL
8 - Invoking Web Service Operations from ABL
That will basically take you through the entire process from start to beginning.
I'm building VS.NEt 2010 Load Test solution.
Everything works really good except one thing. When I record .webtest script - it grabs the site domain name, like so:
http://test1/page1
http://test1/page2
So the test1 is hardcoded in the script.
What I would like to do is to run same load test again different test environment - the goal is to compare two environment without rewriting the recording.
I see that Run Settings has "Context Parameters" - is this it?
For for a recorded .webtest, this article shows using the context parameters with the {{parameterName}} syntax for form parameters, and can indeed be used for the server name.
From inside a coded test (which inherits from WebTest), you can access it with:
this.Context["KeyName"]
