Directory Listing Denied - FileZilla - ftp

I have a website template that I uploaded to my ftp server using FileZilla. However when I visit the domain I get the error:
Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.
in the console it displays a 403 forbidden error. After researching I recognize that the default web page inside the root directory is not set. All my attempts to set the default page have failed. Here is what I tried:
1) Logged into ftp server with FileZilla. Clicked File > Site Manager > Advanced and set the root directory. The root directory contains a file that says index.html
2) Created a .htaccess file in the root that contains the text "DirectoryIndex index.html"
Solutions involving IIS are welcomed as well.
Any advice on how I can get this fixed?

Unfortunately I did not have permissions to access the actual server files so I contacted the hosting company.
They resolved my issue I believe using the approach #alvits recommended, however they have not returned my request to confirm how they solved it.
Thanks for the support

Site can't be reached when running IIS in Docker

I followed the instructions on the official Dockerhub repo for IIS (https://hub.docker.com/_/microsoft-windows-servercore-iis), but running into "Site can't be reached" when trying to access via the IP of the container.
I get 403 forbidden when I try htp://localhost:8000.
I copied a test.html page into C:/inetpub/wwwroot and verified by logging into the container as well.
The results of appcmd list site is as follows:
SITE "Default Web Site" (id:1,bindings:http/*:80:,state:Started)
403 typically indicates that the web address we are trying to access is not the root directory of the website.
I doubt if there exist any files, which have been copied to the remote docker container.
Please make sure that the directory where the dockerfile is located contains the content folder and contains all site files.
WORKDIR /inetpub/wwwroot
COPY content/ .
Feel free to let me know if the problem persists.
You are right in your analysis. What i didn't realize is IIS perhaps serves index.html as default and my file was called helloworld.html which obviously wasn't going to be to served when i access localhost:8000; it works when i try localhost:8000/helloworld.html.

Installing laravel on server

I am installing laravel on server via putty. I linked public with public_html. Files were located inside laravel folder above public_html. After installation its showing "Internal Server Error"
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Usually when using cPanel it will usually require your index.php to have the permissions 644 otherwise you'll get a 500 error.
You can change this in cPanel by doing the following:
Login to your cPanel (if not already there)
Click File Manager.
Click the name of the file for which you would like to change the
permissions.
Select the Change Permissions link at the top right of the page.
Select the permissions you would like to set for the file
Owner - Read and write
Group - Read
World - Read
Click Change Permissions.
Alternatively, if you have ssh access you could run the following command on the server:
chmod 644 path/to/index.php

Magento 500 Internal Server - No Log Files?

I have just upgraded my site from Magento 1.7 to 1.9 and i'm now getting a 500 Internal Server Error. From other posts, I have done the following:
Deleted the maintenance.flag file
Changed permission on index.php to 755
Changed permission on downloader/index.php to 755
Changed permissions recursively on /var to 777
I've also gone through the files and all directories seem to be 755 and all main files '666'.
I'm still getting the 500 Internal Server Error. The bigger problem is that I have no error files in /log to be able to identify the problem. I created the folder /log (because it didn't exist) but no files are in there. I do not have access to the frontend of backend (because of the 500 Internal Server Error) to make sure that logging is turned on.
Any idea how I can try to troubleshoot / get these error logs?
Thanks!
It sounds like you're getting a plain, un-styled 500 Internal Server Error page, which means its your web server that's returning the error. This means any error logging is likely to be in your web server log files, and not PHP or Magento's log files.
You'll need to check with your system administrator to find out
What web server you're running
Where it's log files are
And if you have access to those log files
Common places these files might be are
/var/log/apache2/error_log
/var/log/nginx/...
However, every distribution keeps them in a different place.

Changing permissions on Windows for FTP via XAMPP

I am developing a rather basic CMS locally and can not ftp due to permissions problems. I have FileZilla FTP server running in XAMPP and can connect without problems but receive error "550 Permission Denied" when my code tries to upload via ftp.
I tried changing permissions via my FileZilla FTP client but without success (presumably because it is windows- error: "504 Command not implemented for that parameter"). I also tried going to the target folder's properties --> security --> permissions and checking "full" for the user XAMPP is running under.
So how do I setup the permissions to allow my CMS to use ftp in XAMPP?
Finally figured it out. For anyone else who has this problem, there is no need to set permissions in Windows. Instead, on the FileZilla FTP server admin interface select edit --> users --> shared folders and check 'write'.
For a fix of this make sure that the root folder is allowed to write and pass rights permission. had this same issue for a script to run on local web xampp server windows xp.. just change the root file attributes to 755 then try it if that don't work try 777. should work now... hope this works for you... as it did me.
If that does not work go to your htdocs folder in your xampp directory then right click it and check properties .. if read only is ticked .. untick it and apply to all sub folders and files
You're behind firewall? Try to allow FileZilla server program in Firewall.

Directory access denied -- in server(bluehost)?

When i completed my project in codeigniter and uploaded to server it show directory access denied? What to do ...i have configured in config file but it doesn't work..
You will need to change read/write permissions for the directory hosting your codeigniter application. Refer to your hosting company's help section to see how this can be done.
