Changes to Joomla live site - joomla

Is it possible to make changes on a Joomla live site, without making it offline or interrupting users?
There is going to be added a new feature, but I wonder if it is possible to do while it's live.

Depends on what type of functionality you are trying to block. If it is something controlled within a module or menu item, you can set access to special and then login to the front as an admin to see.If it is within the PHP, you can wrap it in a conditional checking the user's access level.

How do I create a custom global element/app within CRM Dynamics such that it shows on all pages and can control user navigation?

I need to add a custom element/mini-app/extension to CRM Dynamics sales such that it shows globally on all pages that the user navigates to and also can navigate the users urls when certain events happen.
What options exactly do I have to satisfy the above criteria?
The screenshot below shows a sample area that I need to build the app within as an example.
Id imagine there are many use cases where customizing a global element is worthwhile, especially since custom applications may need to be built.
I understand I can use the Resources to create a SPA such as angular which is running so long as the URL stays at the SPA url. But for our use case, we are looking to allow end users to be able to navigate the CRM using the custom controls. but when something happens in a another subsystem, we need end users who are logged into the CRM to instantly view data that is important to them.
Is this technically possible?
Unfortunately this is not feasible. There are some concepts to show learning path like that. It won’t satisfy your need.
I understand what you need, like a news feed or ad rotator for rolling content but context specific flyout area which is always pinned. There is no OOB option or customization/configuration available for achieving this. You can initiate this concept in Dynamics Ideas.
Like you said there can be a HTML web resource developed & embedded in a dashboard, this is very limited for your requirement.
Edit:
I think you are looking for Channel Integration Framework which will help you to configure third party CTI apps.
In CRM V9, they have introduced a new API call for 'Panel'. This panel loads to the side of the screen, and can display content regardless of where the user moves throughout the entire application. I've played around with it a bit for my own person reasons at work, but it looks to be exactly what you're looking for.
The call is 'Xrm.Panel.loadPanel(URL/WebResource)'
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-engagement/developer/clientapi/reference/xrm-panel
However, the feature is currently in development, and should only be used in production at your own risk.

Joomla 3.x - how do I have students (we register them) access one area, and public (self registration) another area?

Apologies for what is I suspect an easy question for many - I am very new to Joomla. I am building a website for my wife on Joomla 3.x (Noteworthymusictuition.co.uk). I already have an area for her music students, in which they log in and can access teaching material not available to the public. We register them.
I want to create an area of 'free downloads' for members of the public to self-register and automatically go to an area for them to download material. They need to be able to log in again after registration. To build up a newsletter group, I want to capture the registrations and store them for subsequent emails.
I do struggle to understand the ACL in Joomla, but if I try and set up a registration form for the public to use, I have to enable self registration in the admin and that affects the existing student login.
I hope that's enough detail! I was wondering whether I need an extension to enable multiple levels, such as Access Manager Pro? But on the other hand, what I'm asking for doesn't really sound like rocket science!
Many thanks!
By the way, I have never done any programming in Joomla - apart from occasional HTML editing.
Anthony
If you choose the 'self' registration option that doesn't stop you creating users as you do now. As long as you set the user up correctly they should be able to log in without issue.
New users would have the option to create an account and would be activated via a confirmation email.
You need to create at least one new user group though. For example, a 'download' group which has access to the additional material. Then, if you use a decent component (http://www.joomlatools.com/extensions/docman/ - see access control new tab) you will be able to control access to documents and downloads by specifying which groups are able to see download links etc.
Hope that helps a bit!

Joomla: Set up workflows so articles have to pass by an editor before publishing?

We need for articles to pass by an editor before getting published. Some pages need to pass by two different people. This is beyond the contributor/author/editor roles in the Joomla core, I think, because edits to existing pages need to be held for approval, during which time the original page needs to remain live.
Is this possible in Joomla 3.x?
An extension like this may help you
and other options are also ther use 3rd party software like processmaker and integrate it in JOOMLA in iframe and LDAP to verify users.
open source version of processmaker is available and free to use

How to use bootstrap size option in joomla 3.0?

I m new to joomla world. pls can any1 tell how to use bootstrap size option in joomla 3.0?
and i have 1 more question, what is the use of index.html in every modules folder which has no content in it ?
Second question answer
Web servers list all its directory-content in the browser if there's not present an index.html, making it easy for attackers to click on any of the links and view the contents; worse, if it's a PHP file, which will invariably execute upon clicking. That brings three risks:
Direct access to a PHP file exposes sensitive information (e.g. the
server's path structure) to directly alter codes.
It makes easier uploading hacking scripts to a site through any of
its vulnerable component. This allows for direct web access which
compromises the site.
It reveals the names and size of the site's files and helps
identifying any vulnerable extension, making it an easy target
The index.html files prevent the file listings from such exposures.
The "bootstrap size" option in the module parameters has to be supported by the used module chrome. From the default system chromes, only the html5 one does support it. Depending on your template, there may be other chromes as well which do support it. But since it's a rather new parameter, most templates probably don't support it yet.

Joomla 1.7:- How do i do this please (kinda facebook)

Joomla comes out standard with registered user, and public user
If I add a third (registered) User that allows the third user to a) create a single separate page in Joomla that the user can input pictures (like you do on face book). b) Access all pages as the standard registered user does.
How do I go about that in Joomla 1.7, add a third (registered) User and give it level 2 accesses?
Then how I create a single page for each user. Somehow I need a reference to each user’s page and show that in a list and control the list search parameters. And i need the page viewable when selected and in the page info needs to be received by the third user. I’m not creating face book but I need that sort of techno somehow.
Can someone point me to what I need to look at, editorials, videos, etc. I know I need to lean PHP better.
Could I make a foulder for each registered user to hold photo's and name the folder acourding to the user's name or email address.
I would recommend to go with a component that offers the functionality that you need. You will find it easier to control the user rights there as they are standard settings available. This is more convenient than building everything from scratch.
Some well known components are:
Community Builder (main component free)
JomSocial (commercial component)
There are more components and plugins available, you may also want to search the Joomla Extensions Directory (JED) for something suitable (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/social-web)
