OpenCobolIDE stopped working after macOS Mojave update - macos

Before updating to macOS Mojave, OpenCobolIDE was working fine, but ever since I updated, every time I try to open the application, it just closes a second after I pressed the icon. This I probably compatibility issues with the now OS, but is there any methods to fix it without downgrading my OS?
Thanks in advance

I had problems with OpenCobolIDE 4.7.4 on Mac after upgrade to Mojave - the program gets stalled with spinning wheel. Instead of using the download on https://launchpad.net/cobcide/+download, I have installed it with pip3:
In a terminal window I ran the command : sudo pip3 install OpenCobolIDE --upgrade
For more info see https://gist.github.com/ejlp12/4f59bd35cbfe4c5ffcf7955d5680a298
It installs OpenCobolIDE 4.7.6 and it runs smoothly after installation. The executable can be found in /usr/local/bin

Problems installing and opening Anaconda3 on macOS Sierra

I am using a MacBook Pro (early-2011) with macOS Sierra v10.12.6. I can not install and run Anaconda3. I have downloaded the pkg file from the Anaconda webpage. First day, it took overnight to finish installing. After which it said installation failed. I tried to delete all files and reinstall all over again serval times, but this hasn't worked. I made sure the /opt folder was empty before I reinstall again, but even like that didn't work.
Any ideas how to make it work?
Had a similiar problem with a geriatric iMac mid 2010 running OSX 10.13.16. The GUI installer for Anaconda 3 takes an age, then reports there was a problem.
I downloaded the install script and ran, "bash Anaconda3-2022.05-MacOSX-x86_64.sh" in a terminal.
Answered questions, and after some time, have Anaconda installed in my personal space. Now to figure out how to use the latest LTS Julia.
No Anaconda support. Current Anaconda (and likely Miniconda) distribution declares a minimum system requirement of macOS v10.13+. One could try scraping back through the archive to find an older distribution that will install, but I wouldn't recommend that.
Conda Forge supports macOS 10.9+. Conda Forge still builds all osx-64 packages with a macOS 10.9 target. Hence, you should be fine using instead a Miniforge variant for the base Conda installation. I strongly recommend Mambaforge, and using mamba instead of conda.

HAXM on OS X keeps on disappearing

I have recently moved my android development environment on OS X, using El Capitan. Everything is working as expected. The only problem i find is that after every time I restart my PC the HAXM gets disappeared from '/dev' and Android Studio Reports it while starting an emulator using the HAXM.
When I go to extras in Android SDK folder and try to install, it says that the same is already installed and if continue, it will be reinstalled. I continue to install. After which every thing works fine, till next reboot of the system.
Can anyone please tell me, how to resolve the issue. It is not a big task to reinstall HAXM, but it is really annoying.
Figured this one out: when upgrading from HAXM 1.1.4 to 1.1.5 on El Capitan, the installation path moves from /System/Library to /Library. However, the in-place upgrade script shipped by the HAXM installer doesn't handle this perfectly, which leaves things in a funky state. It is for this reason that the HAXM page says:
Before installing HAXM 1.1.5, the previous version (1.1.4 and below) must be uninstalled using:
sudo /System/Library/Extensions/intelhaxm.kext/Contents/Resources/uninstall.sh
If your installation is already broken because you didn't uninstall 1.1.4 before installing 1.1.5, the following steps worked for me:
Uninstall 1.1.5 from its new path by running /Library/Extensions/intelhaxm.kext/Contents/Resources/uninstall.sh with sudo
Remove left-over 1.1.4 files (specifically for me the key was to remove /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.intel.haxm.plist although there may be more files left over in /System/Library for other people)
Reinstall 1.1.5 the normal way

OS X Terminal hangs installing vNext KVM after running "source kvm.sh"

I'm trying to install vNext on my Macbook but when I run source kvm.sh the terminal just hangs.
My setup:
OSX 10.9.5 (Mavericks)
Mono 3.10.0
My problem:
I followed the instructions for installing vNext on OS X from the GitHub repo:
https://github.com/aspnet/Home
Essentially:
brew tap aspnet/k
brew install kvm
source kvm.sh
Everything seems to go fine until the step where I run source kvm.sh, which hangs the terminal with a message "[Process completed]".
Adding source kvm.sh to ~/.zshrc file starts the terminal and immediately hangs it once that runs.
What I've tried:
I uninstalled kvm (brew uninstall kvm) and aspnet/k (brew untap aspnet/k) and deleted the directory ~/.kre, then tried reinstalling it all again.
No luck.
Any ideas? Here's a screenshot:
The kvm currently not working in ZSH, Running it under /bin/bash should work quite well.
Also, make sure you remove anything to do with kvm from your .zshrc file and you should be good to go again.
according to https://github.com/aspnet/kvm/issues/83 , you can replace the kvm.sh file with the version from dev branch, which can be found under https://github.com/aspnet/kvm/blob/dev/src/kvm.sh , and zsh should be happy with it afterwards.
Worked for me.

Installing Inkscape on Mavericks

I have installed Inkscape 0.48.2 on my brand new mac mini running Mavericks but I can never get it to work as it crashes. It once asked me about the X11 server which I have installed but it never worked ever since. What should I do?
Make sure you installed Xquartz for the X server. http://xquartz.macosforge.org/
To see the logs you can try from the command line:
/Applications/Inkscape.app/Contents/MacOS/Inkscape

Mavericks - Trying to install XQuartz X11 for Inkscape, "image not found"

So I'm trying to install Inkscape onto my Mac, which is running on Mavericks. Upon trying to open, i'm told that I need to install X11 and am forwarded to this site http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki/X112.7.5. Downloaded the file, when trying to open i'm told that the image can't be found. How can I get X11 + Inkscape running?! Thanks for your help in advance!
When Inkscape asks
Where is X11?
I had to go to Applications -> Utilities -> X11
The reason you think it did not work is because the first time Inkscape opens, it takes up to a minute and a half. It just seems to sit there, doing nothing, but it will open for sure. Once it opens, close it completely via XQuartz, then re-open it and it will open in 2-3 seconds. Use this direct link for the latest version of XQuartz 2.7.11.
https://www.xquartz.org
Works just fine for Mavericks 10.9.5, no worries. If not, update to OS X 10.9.5 via AppStore.
Install the X11 2.7.4 from here. I had to restart after this install, but it worked like a charm. MATLAB took forever to open the first round, but it eventually did and now everything seems OK.
For the record, I'm running 10.9.1 on a 2009 MacbookPro. Had the same problem after I upgraded to Mavricks and could not install X11, the 2.7.5 Package.
