I have recently installed Visual Studio 2019 in my Windows 10 laptop and installed the workload ** ".Net desktop development"** in it.
After installing it when i attempted to created a new project, I got the error message like this.

You are trying to create a .net core application
So you need to select the cross platform .net core workload during setup

When i am creating .net core console app in visual studio profession 2019, its not showing any project under current solution. Images are enclosed for references. Please suggest.
I uninstall all the older .Net Core Sdk (i.e .Net Core Sdk 1.1.xx and .Net Core Sdk 2.2.xx) from my machine. After this i have only Microsoft .Net Core Sdk 3.1.101 install on my machine which installed at the time of vs 2019 installation.
Now i am able to see the project under current solution.
I have installed the Enterprise version of Visual Studio 2017 v 15.8.4 on Windows 7 Professional. I have downloaded the UWP Samples, when I attempt to load any of the C++ UWP sample solutions such as the Altimeter solution I get the error ..."This project is incompatible with the current version of Visual Studio." Online I found the suggestion that with a prior version of VS reloading the project worked, but in my case the project is greyed out. What is the problem?
From Visual Studio 2017 Product Family System Requirements:
Universal Windows app development, including designing, editing, and debugging, requires Windows 10. Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server 2012 R2 may be used to build Universal Windows apps from the command line.
You need Windows 10 to open UWP samples in Visual Studio 2017.
Just installed Visual Studio 2017 – Enterprise Edition with the following workloads:
Universal Windows Platform Development
ASP.Net and Web Development
.Net Desktop Development
.Net Core cross-platform Development
After this installation, when I create a new .net core or .net standard project, the visual studio restarts while loading the project template.
Steps to create the behavior:
File ⇒ New Project ⇒ .Net Core ⇒ Asp.Net Core Application (.Net Core)
Visual Studio tries to load the selected template then suddenly it disappears and the windows show the dialogue box to Check online help, debug or close it.
Next, visual studio reboots to the start page.
This only happens when I select any .Net Core or .Net Standard project templates.
Much appreciate your help in advance.
I had the exact same issue. It turned out that when a .Net core or .Net standard project template is selected, it tries to restore the packages from NuGet and somehow it was unable to do that or clear the NuGet’s local cache.
Here are the steps to fix it:
Download NuGet
https://dist.nuget.org/win-x86-commandline/latest/nuget.exe
Open the command prompt as “Administrator” – this is important other
cache may not get cleared due to permission issues.
Navigate to the folder where the NuGet is downloaded
Run the following command to clear the cache
nuget locals all -clear
Open Visual Studio 2017
Create a new ASP.Net core project with default templates
Hope this helps!
I just installed the new release of ASP.Net 5 beta 8. I ran DotNetVersionManager-x64.msi and then WebToolsExtensionsVS14.msi. I tried to open a simple app that worked in beta 7 and it won't load the project with a message
This project is incompatible with the current edition of Visual Studio:
Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2015
Version 14.0.23107.0 D14REL
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.6.00079
I then tried to create a new ASP.Net 5 web project and got this:
The project file 'c:\users\myfolder\documents\visual studio 2015\Projects\WebApplication3\src\WebApplication3\WebApplication3.xproj' cannot be opened.
The project type is not supported by this installation.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the DotNetVersionManager and WebToolsExtensionsVS14 with the same result.
Fixed it by doing this
Close VS, then delete the folder at %localappdata%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\ComponentModelCache and restart – Sayed Ibrahim Hashimi

The easiest way to get started building applications with ASP.NET 5 is to install the latest version of Visual Studio 2015 (including the free Community edition).
Install Visual Studio 2015
Be sure to specify that you want to include the Microsoft Web Developer Tools.
Install ASP.NET 5.
This will install the latest ASP.NET 5 runtime and tooling.
Enable the ASP.NET 5 command-line tools. Open a command-prompt and run:
dnvm upgrade
This will make the default .NET Execution Environment (DNX) active on the path.
On Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 you will also need to install the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4.
You are all set up and ready to write your first ASP.NET 5 application!

So I'm trying to do what I think is a very simple thing: generate a Windows Phone app with PhoneGap and open it in Visual Studio. On a totally fresh Windows installation (via Bootcamp), I've:
Downloaded Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows (the very first download button: http://developer.windowsphone.com/en-us/downloadsdk)
Created a PhoneGap Windows Phone app per the Getting Started guide.
However, every time I try to open the csproj file, I keep getting this error:
Unsupported
This version of Visual Studio is unable to open the following projects. The project types may not be installed or this version of Visual Studio may not support them.
For more information on enabling these project types or otherwise migrating your assets, please see the details in the "Migration Report" displayed after clicking OK.
- HelloWorld, "C:\BodBot\BodBot-PG\BodBot\platforms\wp8\HelloWorld.csproj"
No changes required
These projects can be opened in Visual Studio 2013, Visual Studio 2012, and Visual Studio 2010 SP1 without changing them.

No matter what I do. It works totally fine on Visual Studio 2012 for Windows Phone. I've tried it on VS 2013 for Desktop, and that doesn't work either. No clue what is happening here, and don't know even where to start to figure out what's wrong. I've Googled extensively to no avail; basically all instances of this error seem to have to do with previous version of VS. Pointing in any direction would be very much appreciated.
Turns out Update 2 wasn't getting installed correctly. I ended up installing Visual Studio and the Update 2 separately and Update 2 got installed successfully. Everything works now.
To build Multi device hybrid (Cordova tooling) apps with Visual Studio, you need to have Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 - Professional, Ultimate, or Premium.
