Unable to find an option to put avd emulator window inside or on top of android studio window so that don't have to switch window while debugging.
On AVD emulator on the bottom right corner there are 3 dots, click on that, a window will pop up, from there go to settings and you will a button to keep the AVD always on the top.
Just reduce the size of the Android Studio window to 2/3 or half of the screen, and put the emulator to the other side.
Similarly, you can put your web browser and Android Studio side by side, so that you can look at relevant documents or codes on the web when typing in your codes at the same time.

My Android Studio preview is working fine.
But I made my preview screen to new window. When I wanted to make it inside the Android Studio again, I can't find a way! How can I restore my preview setting as Default? (to be located inside the Android Studio preview tab. Not separated window)
Follow these instructions
1.Select the Preview Window
2.Go to Window menu -> Active Tool Window
Docked Mode in Window menu
This will make preview window in docked mode there will be settings icon you can change it if you want to change it again
I have installed Visual Studio recently but I can't use it. The program opens but I can't click on anything. It looks like the whole window is inactive (gray icon and text in top left corner). I have tried to reinstall it, however, that doesn't work. And if I click on the window, a sound appears (but it's not the error one, probably a warning one). Any suggestions?
edit: I have to close it through task manager. I can't even close it by clicking on the VS 2015 icon at Windows bar and selecting "close program" item in menu
edit2: If I click on the VS2015 window and then type on my keyboard, the weird "dong" sound appears. Same if I just click on the window. However, sometimes I can navigate using keyboard and therefore open window for starting new project. In this window I can use mouse absolutely normally, however, if I click on the OK button, the window quickly close and reopen again. It won't create a new project. So I'm still stuck on the welcome screen.
edit3: Another interesting thing I found. Now when I click on the OK button this error message appears. Should I reinstall it again (for 3rd time), and hope that this time it will be installed right?
PS: I'm sorry for my English - I'm not a native speaker
I had the same problem, it can't be solved by re-install VS2015. It was solved after I TRULY uninstall VS2015 by the tool: https://github.com/Microsoft/VisualStudioUninstaller/releases
Is there a way to disable the Web Publish Activity window in Visual Studio 2013?
I couldn't find any options to disable that feature.
I have no directly solution for it. But I found workaroud: I tab it to the right sidebar and set autohide for it. So, now this window take minimum screen place and isn't shown during every publish:
If you click the little x in the Web Publish Activity window, it will go away!
I had the same problem on Visual Studio 2017.
Mine was over everything every time and completely unreactive. Not even its close button worked.
The way I get rid of it was: menu Window > Reset Window Layout
So i'm using Visual Studio 2010 with a dual monitor setup and I like to have my Build/Team -explorer tab on my other screen.
But the the problem I am raging with is the following:
"sketch" of the problem: http://pastebin.com/X8K3ihGJ
If i'm coding and I switch to the word doc on screen 1 (it pops to the front (y) )
But if i then want to click on the build explorer on screen 2, the vs main screen on screen 1 goes to the front.
Is there anyway it's possible you can set the visual studio windows' on top state's independent from each other?
It's a minor issue but it's hurting me all day :)
Thx!
Try the Productivity Power Tools extension. Dock the build explorer in a floating tab well and enable the "enable independent floating tab well" option in the Document Tab Well settings. This will allow windows to be on top independent of each other.
In Visual Studio, you are able to dock code windows in horizontal and vertical tab groups (something you can also do with tool windows).
However, when doing so you may end up with a lot of redundant screen space. What would be ideal would be if you could mix docking orientations for code windows. This is possible with tool windows in Visual Studio 2010. Here is an image showing the feature used for tool windows:
My question is: is it possible to get this same functionality with the code windows - i.e. being able to mix horizontal and vertical docking, like with the tool windows shown? I've heard rumours that its possible, but I've been unable to find any truth in that.
I too wish this was a naitive feature in visual studio, but there is one workaround by using the 'floating tab group' feature of visual studio
Move the visual studio main window out of the way (maybe to another monitor, or to smallest area of the monitor needed to see the tooling windows)
"Tear out" or Right Click > Float on the desired tab
Position the tab to your desire (I suggest using WinSplitRevolution, via codinghorror)
Repeat, note that you can move a tab to an existing 'floating' tab group
And voila!
There are some setbacks, some commands will pop up over the main tooling window instead of your current tab group etc. but its still pretty nice. I'm not sure if there's any changes coming in VS2012, but I haven't heard about anything related.
