We have migrated from gwtext to SmartGWT and overall the experience is Ok. However, we have big problems with the ListGrid component of SmartGWT.
It is very slow if both of the following conditions are met:
Internet Explorer is used
5 or more columns
the speed will decrease if you add more columns up to the point where the whole thing is unusable and you have to kill the browser, e.g. through the windows task manager.
Grids with 1 column are fine in internet explorer
Grids with a large number of columns are fine in Firefox, opera
In the SmartGWT forums I've found two entries that are about this problem, but none of the suggested workarounds has fixed the problem.
http://forums.smartclient.com/showthread.php?t=5896
Since I am only allowed to post one hyperlink, here's the number of the second thread:
t=5193
Any help is greatly appreciated
Can you list out the actual steps you took to make sure you followed all the suggestions in the threads in the SmartClient forums?
If you look at the SmartGWT Showcase LiveGrid sample:

Is this slow for you? If so possibly something is wrong with your machine or browser and you should try a co-worker's machine.
From my experience I.E. 8 handles horribly more than one or two buttons in a page (input type=button or button tags). I don't know if listgrid makes any use of that but if it does there is no workaround. Use something that uses divs.
Try using grid's setFastCellUpdates(true);

Problem: In Internet Explorer 7 & 8 there is an extra column appearing on the far right side of the slickgrid.
I have taken the most basic slickgrid example and placed it into my application. All of the scripts, css, etc. are there and working properly. In Chrome and Firefox the grid renders perfectly, even with forceFitColumns: true.
I searched SO and found some similar questions but ultimately I believe this is different.
Any ideas of how to remedy this? Our users are unfortunately stuck with IE8 for now.
Answered my own question. There was an extra comma at the end of the script code where the columns are being assigned/generated. Facepalm.
I was planning to delete this question but another developer that I know happened to make the same mistake; so hopefully this helps someone else in the future.
I have seen many posts about how it's impossible to disable the zoom/pan/scroll functions on the Web-browser control natively for Windows Phone 7. So what options do we have?
I did a little digging and I found a quick way to do so, so I thought I'd share it here.
It's not a quick few lines of code which is a shame but all of it is up on the web so it should be easy to implement. First you need the Linq ddl and this class here called LinqToVisualTree. Then you can use these in a WebBrowserHelper class where you just pass in your web browser when you create the webBrowserHelper and the rest is taken care of. You can even set whether or not you'd like the scrolling to be disabled.
One problem I found with this was that when I double tap on the web page it still zooms in sometimes. Does anyone know how this might be fixed? I'm sure there is a way to do it using the LinqToVisualTree but I can't figure it out.
This is driving me crazy. This website and its pages work perfectly in IE, and Chrome but in Firefox 5.0 it frequently won't load the belts and bags page and the only way to get it to load is clear my cache/history.
http://www.urlgone.com/0ad9a6/
If you click around four times on the Bags link, then the belts link, then the Bags, then the accessories link it usually won't load. Another testing process is when you click Belts or Bags twice each then hit refresh it gets stuck and never loads or eventually after a long wait does. It seems to do this on either Belts or Bags but its
not always the same page that has problems.
Can anyone give me a clue what the problem is?
I figured the problem out. Its more specific to my individual situation i guess. I thought maybe my problem was the word press include header file but I was wrong. It appears to be permalinks. I changed my perma links to default and it worked. Next I did a restart with Firefox in Safe Mode using pretty permalinks (not default) and it worked fine. So ultimately the problem in Firefox is an add-ons in combination with the permalink somehow. I found the culprit add-on is HTML Validator 0.9.0.6. I'm not sure why this is the problem but appears it is.
I have searched and searched, but didn't find what I was looking for, so sorry if it's already there. I did a photo blog for a friend and used to implement jQuery Jazyload (http://www.appelsiini.net/projects/lazyload) to load all the pictures along the way, however, it doesn't work in all browsers anymore and he stopped developing it. I heard of http://www.sebastianoarmelibattana.com/projects/jail/, but it will need a lot of extra text and code when you have 500-1,000 pictures on one site. Also I want to be able to load the images lets say 1000px, before they appear in the window.
Do anyone have suggestions/solution or else, to get the problem fixed?

It is the part of automatically removing image src which does not work anymore. Version 1.5 released Dec 23, 2009 provided alternative where you must alter HTML and store image url in original attribute. I renamed it recently to data-originalto be HTML5 friendly. I also updated to documentation which better explains how to use it.
But yes. The way Lazy Load used to work is not possible anymore. Before you could just drop in the JavaScript and it handled everything automagically. Due to changes in new browsers you now must alter the HTML.
PS. Lazy Load is not dead. It was just orphan for a while.
Over the last few days, I've noticed that (occasionally) when testing my own site in FF, it loads the first time that FF has been opened, but it seems to hang on subsequent loads (windows only - i haven't noticed this behaviour on mac, but i don't use my mac as much).
The url is http://HearWhere.com
Of course, my concern is that sometimes people will try to get to the site and not be able to (and based on what I can see, that is a distinct possibility, as i've seen a significant drop in stats over the last few days, so I suspect that might be happening).
Any idea why? I can't seem to figure this one out.
I view source on the page that hasn't loaded, and it appears that all the source is there.
The one thing I can think of that might be causing the problem is that in my head and footer, i have a bit of PHP which attaches the correct API key based on the visiting domain (this is so I don't have to hard-code the api key into the page and change it from dev to prod).
i use a fairly simple
$domain=$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'];
if($domain=='dev'){
$apiKey='apikey';
}else {
$apiKey='apikey2';
}
but when viewing the source, it appears that show without issue.
I do a similar bit of code at the bottom of the page so I only include tracking codes when the domain is not dev.
Any ideas?
UPDATE --------------------------------------------------------------------
After checking it out in Firebug (not sure why i didn't check that before), the following two google scripts are failing, and everything stops there.
The site is map/location centric, so there i need the google stuff. Any idea why it would fail?
these are the failing scripts
http://gg.google.com/csiv=2&s=mapsapi&action=jsloaderjslinker&rt=jsload.69,jseval.103,jsdone.105
http://gg.google.com/csi?v=2&s=mapsapi&action=apiboot&rt=d.2,e.316,ab1.336
Have you tried Firebug plugin for Firefox? It could help you debug some script/network/html issues.
You can monitor script, images and other ressources load time.
Good luck.
It appears this was/is an error with Firebug. Disabling firebug resolves the issue, so it shouldn't affect too many visitors.
Thanks for the help,
Pete
