Ok, so I am misusing Watin a bit here, maybe a better tool exists (please do suggest!).
Anyway I use Watin to log in to a site, and after that I want it to leave the browser window alone...
So my question is: Is it possible to use Watin to execute some steps and then abandon the browser completely?
The IE class has a property AutoClose. Set this to false after creating an IE instance and your Internet Explorer instance will stay open after your code has run.

I created a login sequence and my selectors for the input email, password, click login and element exists are valid. But only when I have the Internet Explorer page open on the website I'm working with.
I did that sequence again, and I ran it, initially it worked but when I ran the hole project it broke again, I tried "repair" and "indicate", I tried to eliminate the title but nothing is working.
As far as I can see, you are using selector attribute:
"title=ACME System 1 - Dashboard"
Try using a wildcard: title='ACME System 1*', so it can work when you leave the dashboard.
This worked for me when I took those UiPath Academy courses.
In order to automate tasks within a browser with UiPath, the browser must be open. There is an activity called Open Browser that's included in the default activities for every project. You need to add this activity to the beginning of your sequence and pass in the appropriate parameters, (ie. URL, browser type) you can then pass the outputted browser variable to an attach browser sequence and execute your browser automation acivities within that.

In addition, the selector that you have shared does not look like a stable selector. There may be other 'H1' elements on the screen that will cause your automation to fail. I would use the UI explorer to help you build a better, more stable selector.
Did you initially use IE to indicate screen elements and then changed the BrowserType property to use a different browser? Please share the sequence to suggest you a fix for your issue.
I would also suggest you to modify the selector to 'title='ACME System *'.
In order for selector to work the application needs to be open and the desired element needs to be available. So when you close the browser the selector disappears.
You may consider swithching to 'Modern Design Experience' and use 'Use Application/Browser' scope to make this more intuitive, and it will also automatically open the browser for you if it is closed.
How do I know which part of JavaScript that is executed when some event is occurred in Mozilla Firefox?
This is a very broad question but I'll take a shot. I was a bit curious about the now native debugger in Firefox so I looked into this for you. Firebug is still a nice tool but you don't need it for debugging if you're running Firefox 19 or later. Let me also suggest trying Chrome's DevTools, they are my personal favorite.
To use the native debugger in Firefox, there's two options you will need to configure. Go to about:config (paste that in the address bar). Proceed past the warning. Update the following settings to be true (search is your friend):
devtools.chrome.enabled: true
devtools.debugger.remote-enabled: true
You need to do that so you can set breakpoints in the code. Now load the debugger, the shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+S.
At this point you need to have some idea where to set your breakpoints. If you wrote the JavaScript, you shouldn't have much trouble. If you're inspecting 3rd party code, you might need to browse the source code to get an idea where to begin.
With the debugger loaded, select a source file in the dropdown. It could be a JavaScript file, or any other resource that has JavaScript. You should open whichever file you're interested in inspecting.
To add a breakpoint, click to the left of the line number. You can also right-click on a given line and select "Add breakpoint." If you are debugging something that happens on page load, refresh the page. If it's an event handler, interact with the page to fire the event.
Those are the basics you'll need to get started with debugging in Firefox. Here are some resources you might need to go further.

I am using a dedicated test SL web application that hosts SL object I am debugging.
I am debugging using basic F5 and use browser Google Chrome. Sometimes a bug happens, how I reproduce it.
I was running build->debug like 100 times already, but then I made a mistake that caused StackOverflowException and happened in main page constructor and afterwards when I rebuild and hit F5 it says no symbols have been loaded. Note that NOTHING has changed , I use the same 2 buttons combinations rebuild solution-> start debugging.
In order for debug to continue to attach I need to close XAML main page , open it again (in visual stuido) and hit rebuild ->f5 again, afterwards it works fine. (found this solution after SOME time)
I am not sure whats bugged but it appears to be a bug somewhere in SL to me.
Question is - whats going on maybe someone can explain.
This sounds more like Chrome's isolation mode for plug-ins. Generally speaking it's best to manually attach to the Chrome process that is running Silverlight (which isn't always one VS attaches to when pressing F5).
Actually error was super simple, I wasn't understanding how "exactly" xap works, it was a little more magical to me than it is. I just needed to rebuild & clear cache in browser ( chrome in this case) to attach successfully. For some reason I thought that local version doesn't require clear cache call.
Actually chrome is pretty bad to debug silverlight so I recommend IE for this sole purpose, sometimes debugger simply fails to attach to chrome, in that case you usually need to do this by attach to process - choose chrome with silverlight name there.
I am trying to get selenium tests to run. Yet every time I try to run a tests that should run IE I get a error on line 863 of htmlutils.js It says that I should disable my popup blocker. The thing is I went to IE tools-> turn of popup block.
So it is disabled and I get this error.
Is there something else I need to disable. I actually don't even know what version of Internet explorer it is running since I am using Windows 7 Pro 64bit version. So when I do use IE I use 64bit version but I am under the understanding if the site or something like that does not support 64bit it goes to 32bit.
So not sure what I need to do it to make it work.

Running my remote control as Admin wasn't an option for me, and also a poor idea from a security perspective.
So in the end I manage to solved this by changeing browser from "*ietha" to "*iexploreproxy"

Works like a charm.
The only question remaing is if this somehow affects the outcome of the test cases. So far no, but I'll update this answer in case that would happen.
I ran into this on Windows 7 64bit.
My solution was:
Disable popup block. - Select "Tools/Popup Blocker/Turn off pop-up blocker"
Disable IE protected mode. - Untick "Tools/Internet Options/Security/Enable protected mode"
It'd be better just to disable protected modes for known trusted hosts/addresses. I'll leave that as an exercise for the reader.
I was experiencing the same problem. I ran the Selenium RC server as an administrator and everything worked fine.
I, too, am experiencing this very problem on a Windows 7 64bit box, trying to run Selenium on it to test and ASP .Net MVC application, written in C#.
I am still trying to work out the answer for myself, but I thought I'd post here to tell you of a little progress I have made in getting something to work, albeit in Firefox instead of IE.
Here's the line I changed:
selenium = new DefaultSelenium("localhost", 4444, "*chrome C:/Program Files (x86)/Mozilla Firefox/firefox.exe", "http://www.bbc.co.uk/");
I would ideally like for this to work in Internet Explorer 8, but if for the moment, I can begin getting tests working and later change over to use IE again, then great.

I had the same problem on Windows 7 64bit IE8. The first step was to disable the IE popup blocker. Then, I got a message in the status bar saying that "Pop-ups were blocked on this page. Press the 'Ctrl' key to allow the pop-ups".
It turns out that the Google Toolbar was providing this feature. Disabling it solved the problem. View > Toolbars > Google to toggle.

If you happen to be doing this from JavaScriptMVC, there is a reference you need to change in \jmvc\plugins\test\drivers\selenium.js:
1) Change iexplore to iexploreproxy and you should get better results:

2) At this point, you'll find that you still get the popup error, but a separate instance of IE has started. Leave that IE window open and restart the tests, but not Selenium.
3) Next, the windows should show up in the right place, but IE gives the annoying block active content warning. Allow the content to run and restart the tests, but not Selenium itself.
This is super clunky, but it at least gets you past that part. If I find more methodical ways to do these things I'll update as needed.
I have had the same problem and have found another solution which works for me. Just use the *iexploreproxy setting in the browserString.
I used:

You can start the test when you disable the Security mode of Internet. Don´t know the correct name for it, but in dutch it is beveiligde modus.
I tried modifiing the security settings to dublicate this security mode, but couldn´t find the correct setting for it. It must therefor block more then you can set manually.
I'm new to the testing world, so my question might seem a lil' bit too naive and stupid. At risk of looking/sounding stupid, my question is this:
I've been trying to test the contents in a pop-up window on my company's web app. I've figured out how to detect the pop-up window for now, but i can't get selenium to 'click' on the link inside of that pop-up window. there are multiple pop-ups in this web app so it's really difficult for a newbie like to create a test case.
I tried the click, clickAndWait, mouseDown and mouseKey as an option but it is still not working. can somebody guide me through this?

When the popup appears you will need to move the context of the script over to the window.
You can do this by using the selectWindow | window_ID_from_the_link and then do the clicking.
If that doesn't work you may need to use the openWindow command to create the popup and then start testing against that.
Use getConfirmation/getassert/getprompt according to the type of the pop up you use .....By default they will be clicked with ok option by the server and you have to consume the message from the pop up for the other selenium commands to work correctly.............
The above suggestion is given from my experience in working with selenium RC used with perl..........
Perhaps you can try the FireFox Plugin. You can click through your application and record your steps. After recording the steps you can easily save it as some sort of file or unittest.
I'm not sure about the command you should use for the popups, maybe the firefox plugin will help in this manner (it will create your commands).
If you created the popup with a div tag, U can use following code to stop the selenium server until the popup opens.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but if you want to click on something specific that Selenium is not able to handle - like browser pop-ups or other pop-ups, you can use Sikuli Script. Sikuli does an image comparison and clicks on the same - this is very powerful.
