Perl SDL Windows Installation - windows

I'm using Windows and I need the SDL Library to start using SDL with Perl. I've been pointed to http://www.libsdl.org/ to download it. My first queston is, which library do I want from that page? There's 3 to choose from...
Then I've been pointed to 4 other SDL extensions by this page: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2006/02/games-perl.ars. From those I've found there's a normal Win32 version and also a devel one. Which do I want?
Thanks.

Alright, I went on the SDL IRC chat. Seems the best way to do it is not to install SDL, but to install the Perl module Alien::SDL.

How to download and Install APL?

I want to work with APL programming language, I have searched for hours and I couldn't figure out how to install it, the only useful stuff I found was the APL keyboard and such a mentioned here. So my question is, how can I properly install it?
or have a look at http://www.gnu.org/software/apl/
which is free.
Jürgen
Try NGN APL, it works in the browser.
http://ngn.github.io/apl/web/index.html
Nars2000 is a free GPL apl that runs natively on Windows and has a nice installer and gui. http://www.nars2000.org/
For the Mac:
brew install gnu-apl
tryapl.org uses Dyalog APL, so I will assume you're interested in getting a licence, downloading and installing that. The licenses for personal use of Dyalog APL are free, so you need to apply for personal, non-commercial license using the form on their website. Following that, you'll get an email with instructions for download & installaton :-)
P.S: Dyalog is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS.

System.data.sqlite

i need some explanation so i hope somebody knows ...
I downloaded SQLITE source from http://system.data.sqlite.org compiled it with build flags not to use interop, so i can use it with mono on linux.
On Linux + Mono the built assembly works without a problem... But on windows it says that it needs SQLITE3.dll.
Now my question is why? Should it be created completley managed without the need of sqlite3.dll ? or am i mising something?
And we will not be building for windows with mono :D so Mono.data.sqlite is out of the question.
Best regards,
Lonko
It is not completely managed, on Windows, you need to supply sqlite3.dll with the binary.

Using python library for GIST feature extraction on Windows

I just started using Python (version 2.7.2) on Windows 7.
I want to use GIST feature in my python project. I have been looking around for the GIST python library. There is a famous library called pyleargist (http://pypi.python.org/pypi/pyleargist/1.0.1#downloads).
However, I have tried so many ways to build and install this library on Windows7. Unfortunately, it didn't success at all. Therefore, I would like to ask 2 questions here.
Is there any other alternative python library (apart from pyleargist or writing it myself) for GIST image descriptor?
Have any of you ever been able to use pyleargist library for any Python 2.7 code on Windows7?
Thanks

How can I create debian package (*.deb) from ruby application written with qt4?

I found a lot of tutorials how to build application with Ruby and Qt, but i have no idea how anybody else will be able to run it! I am using Ubuntu 11.10, ruby 1.9.2 with rvm and:
rbqtapi -v output "QtRuby 2.0.5 using Qt-4.7.4"
P.S. I have no idea how to build *.deb, it will be my first desktop app, not web.
please have a look on http://shoesrb.com/ this is the best way I heard off for writing GUI apps.
Shoes has now not it's greatest time, but we put our best time to make it better, give it a try and someone will help you.
In case you are in need of assistance just ask as question on #shoes IRC channel on freenode servers.
If you're sold on QT, then you will need your users to install all the support libraries for QT (and anything else), then you can upload a rubygem to rubygems.org for your users to download.
Once, they've installed the support libraries, you'd only need to update your rubygem, which is fairly quick and easy for updates.
You may also wan to look at visualruby. It uses GTK. Then you'd install the GTK libraries instead of the QT ones.
http://www.visualruby.net
As far as .deb packages go, I tried to research the same thing with little success. The rubygems packaging system is designed to distribute ruby programs, so it is the best way to go. Also, you'll need to install different support libraries for different platforms. If you look at visualruby's install page, you can see how to install GTK for Linux and Windows.
Good Luck.

installing gcc on vista

I downloaded gcc 4.4.0 and unzipped it to C:\Program Files\gcc
forgive me for being a novice, but...now what? I read the install readme file but it's over my head. how do i get it to work?
If it were me, I would just start with cygwin in the first place. If you do, most of the Unix/Linux/BSD faq's and tutorials will "just work".
If you're new to gcc and want to start using it on Windows, I highly recommend the MinGW GUI installer.
If you want to do C/C++ programming for fun, Mingw is the simpler way to go about it. You'll also need some libraries to get you started.
Try: http://nuwen.net/mingw.html
It's a Mingw distribution based on GCC 4.3.3
It also contains: binutils, boost (with compiled headers), SDL, libbzip, libjpeg, libvorbis, freetype, and many other libraries.
EDIT: I'm not sure if any of the precompiled stuff will work on Vista. I've only tried it on WinXP.
If you want to Install, you can install Dev C++, which is actually MinGW with GUI. Dev C++ can probably be clubbed wth cygwin too though I havn't tried it out ever.
Even if the name says C++ in Dev C++, don't worry. I have tried and it does compile C programs as well. I am recommending Dev C++ because most people on Windows have a habit of using GUI for everything in contrast to be people from *nix background.
You can download it from here
It also includes GDB which is the debugger you can use. If you are don't know how to use gdb this tutorial can come handy.
Another aspect of Dev C++ is that it's development has probably ceased as no new versions have been released since Feb,2005 which is more than 4 years. People still use Dev C++ as it does it's job right. The latest version has GCC 3.4.2 bundled with it.
If you are interested in running the most latest or using newer versions of gcc, then you should try out wxDev C++ is an extension of Dev C++. The latest RC was made available somewhere in 1 yr back. It even has in built CVS support
Now since you require GCC 4.4.0 , it is available on MinGW site. Try to replace the older gcc dll in Dev C++/wxDev C++ with the newer one from this site.
You will edit the environment variable "PATH" to include C:\Program Files\gcc\bin.
(source: justrealized.com)
Then you can use gcc just like in Linux.
