I'm trying to create a project in Xcode, Version 8.0 beta 6 (8S201h) and I'm getting this error.
The apple account is a free one because I'm just playing around with Xcode but it is forcing me to set it as a Team. Any help?
Check the schemes menu at the top of the Xcode project window. Look at the destination you're trying to run in. If you run in the simulator, you don't need to sign your project.
If you run in a device, you need to attach the actual device. It must not say "generic device".
In my case this error disappeared when I changed the "Bundle Identifier" to something less generic (e.g. adding some random numbers at the end)
Change the bundle identifier to something more unique.
If you are following a tutorial and just put a generic identifier then adding a few numbers to the end will likely solve your issues.
i.e. if you had HelloWorld change it to HelloWorld12345
After struggling for an hour, I just unchecked the "Automatically manage signing" and went back to the old school way of specifying my profiles. Probably not the best thing to do but works.
Profiling your Phone takes a few minutes. . . watch the status bar on the top to be sure that your phone is being profiled on the top.
Next, be sure you choose YOUR PHONE as the target, not iPhone 7 or iPhone 8... your exact phone. This is done by choosing: Product > Destination > (pick your phone)
Your phone will only show up after it's been plugged in, turned on, and left running for a few minutes while Xcode creates a profile.
Check these things.
1.A device is connected to your system or not.
2.Deployment target in xcode. (General->Deployment info->Deployment target)
It should match with the ios version of your device.
3.Change your bundle identifier. Follow general rules of setting a unique bundle identifier for yourproject while running in device.
See this what is correct format of bundle identifier in iOS?
Also be careful with the number of bundle identifiers you set in the project. Please remember all bundle identifiers or note it down somewhere. Since you are using a free account you have limited access to the number of bundle id's.
You should also disable push notifications in the "Capabilities" section of the project. Try changing "App groups" as well in the format of group.com.someString.
These things helped me run my app in real device without any errors.
I had same problem with provisioning profile. If you have any kind of iPhone, you can connect to your Mac with cable and provisioning profile is automatically defined.
After some time with the same disturbing error and after I write a unique Bundle Identifier and it didn't help,
I searched the web and found here that my error was that I selected a virtual device and not an real device. The solution was:
1.I plugged my iPhone
2.I clicked on the button - set the active scheme. and there it was on the top - device iPhone.
the error has gone.
I have had this error multiple times and what solves it for me is the following:
In the list with the view of all certificates, right click on each row and move each certificate to trash (go to Xcode > Preferences > Choose account > Click View Details)
Go to member center download the right certificates again and click on them so
Restart Xcode
Go to build settings and set the right Code signing for debug/release - you should be able to see an option on the row that says "Identities from profile..."
If this doesn't work then you should consider revoking your certificate and then create a new one and the do the steps above again.
The issue behind this error is Unavailability of App ID with given Bundle Identifier
Solution: Change Bundle Identifier simple :)
Adding this because it took me 4 hours to figure out..
Xcode will fail to create the provisioning profile for a device with no name, i.e. "" or " ". When I changed my device name to something else, the steps above worked.
Both of these errors arise as a result of a provisioning profile not existing. To create one, simply do the following as suggested in the error message:
Plug in your Apple device
Choose the device from the schemes/simulator menu
Thereafter, provisioning profile will automatically be created
This error is because you selected a target rather than a project name, so please, at the left side of general in Xcode you will find your project name. Click on it and change it from target to project section.
Change Deployment Target to newer version and then solved
For me this happened when I was making a tvOS app and didn't have a appleTV registered.
In general, you need to plug in the device or have logged into it (connected to it)..then it shows up here: https://developer.apple.com/account/resources/devices/list
You can also add devices there..you need to click reset to be able to add a new device. the reset button should be labeled modify because it doesn't reset anything.
for example, if you need to make a tvOS app then you need to have an apple TV in the device list. Once you add that then you're good to go. kisses.
Manual:
Go to your apple developer account and hit certificates
Select devices from the left side
Add the device name and its UDID. Close Xcode and hit automatic signing
Automatic:
Attach your iPhone to Xcode. and run the app on that. Xcode will automatically create a profile.
To set up WITHOUT an iPhone, you can manually download certificates from Apple's website and create a profile. The certificates you install on the Mac and the Profile you import into XCode after download. It worked for me. Follow the links:
Documentation:
https://developer.apple.com/pt/support/certificates/
Certificates:
https://developer.apple.com/account/resources/certificates/list
Profile:
https://developer.apple.com/account/resources/profiles/list
It's just as it says.
To have xCode automate something, you need to get your own iPhone registered there with the UDID, which you can find on Finder or System Information (USB section) when you connect to your iPhone.
Failed to create provisioning profile. There are no devices registered in your account on the developer website. Select a device run destination to have Xcode register it.
Adding a fake device on Apple dev account helped me since I have no iPhone:
https://developer.apple.com/account/resources/devices/list
Example of device you can add:
Name: "NotARealDevice"
Device ID: "1234567890123456789012345678901234567890"
For me this happened when I tried to run on a device with a newer version of iOS than supported by the version of Xcode I was running.
There are basically two way to solve the issue.
Add a device on your mac. Then you can choose that device by selecting Product => Destination => Select your connected device. After this, Xcode will try to add the device in apple developer platform and also create a profile against the same.
Go to https://developer.apple.com/account/resources/devices/list. Add a iPhone device by providing device name and device UDID number. you can google it (How to get the UDID number for iphone). Then you can create the profile and then retry.
By adding my iphone device here solved my problem.
https://developer.apple.com/account/resources/devices/list
and getting apple UUID use this website https://udid.tech no need of xcode and itunes.
Change bundle identifier, Straight solution
What saved me from this error was when I changed my Bundle Identifier.
Try and do that
I have an IPA signed for ad-hoc distribution. I can install it fine with Flash Builder. I'd like to install a release version via iTunes 12, though. Dragging it onto:
The device name
The app section
The app list
The Home Screens section
...does not work? Does anyone have any idea how to do this with the new iTunes 12?
Note : If you are using iTunes 12.7.0 or above then use Solution 2 else use Solution 1. Solution 1 cannot be used with iTunes 12.7.0 or above since Apps section has been removed from iTunes by Apple
Solution 1 : Using iTunes 12.7 below
Tested on iTunes 12 with Mac OS X (Yosemite) 10.10.3
Also, tested on iTunes 12.3.2.35 with Mac OX X (El Capitan) 10.11.3
This process also applicable for iTunes 12.5.5 with Mac OS X (macOS Sierra) 10.12.3.
You can install IPA file using iTunes 12.x onto device using below steps :
Drag-and-drop IPA file into 'Apps' tab of iTunes BEFORE you connect the device.
Connect your device
Select your device on iTunes
Select 'Apps' tab
Search app that you want to install
Click on 'Install' button. This will change to 'Will Install'
Click on 'Apply' button on right corner. This will initiate process of app installation. You can see status on top of iTunes as well as app on device.
You can allow new apps to install automatically by enabling checkmark present at bottom.
Solution 2 : Using iTunes 12.7 and above
You can use diawi for this purpose.
Open https://www.diawi.com/ in desktop/system browser
Drag-and-drop IPA file in empty window. Make sure that last check mark are unselected (recommended due to security concern)
Once the upload is completed then press Send button
This will generate a link and QR code as well. (You can share this link and QR code with Client)
Now open Safari browser in iPhone device and enter this link (Note that link is case-sensitive) OR You can scan the QR using Bakodo iOS app
Once link is loaded you can see app details
Now select ‘Install application’
This will prompt an alert asking permission for installation. Press on Install.
Now you can see the app installation begins on screen.
iTunes 12.7 ( Xcode needed )
You cannot install a release ipa directly on your device. Ipa generated withAppStore Distribution Profile requires to be distributed from App Store or TestFlight. However, I found that app panel was removed even for installing ad hoc ipa from iTunes 12.7. I found a workaround to install ad-hoc apps which might help to them who cannot install even ad hoc ipa. Please follow the instructions below,
Connect your device
Open Xcode and go to Window -> Devices
Select the connected device from left panel
Brows the IPA from Installed Apps -> + button
Wait few seconds and its done!
From iTunes 12.7 apple removes App Store, So we unable to for find App option
We have another way to install iOS app using iTunes 12.7 as below
1)drag and drop your .app file to iTunes.
2)It will create .ipa file, you can find that at ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/
3)connect the device you want to install that app.
4)drag .ipa file from finder to iTunes on my Device section as shown in below section.
I don't remember this being very difficult with iTunes 12, but at least for iTunes 12.8 (and likely for the previous couple of minor versions also) it's pretty straightforward even though the Apps button is not there, as demonstrated in the below two steps:
While your device is connected to your laptop/desktop click the device icon on iTunes 12.8:
Drag your .ipa file from Finder or Desktop and drop it into the "On My Device" area.
Wait for the sync to finish and the app is on your device!
For newest iTunes 12.7 and above can easily install IPA by copy and paste
Select and copy your .ipa (cmd+c or ctrl+c)
Connect phone to laptop
Open iTunes and select your device tab on top left of iTunes
Select the music tab
Paste the ipa (cmd+v or ctrl+v) not drag
In my case Drag & Drop didn't work.
I had to first Sync iTunes with the iOS device (Sync button on the bottom right)
I had to add the IPA file through iTunes menu bar: File -> Add to Library...
I had to press the "Install" button for my app in the "Apps" screen
I had to press the "Apply" button on the bottom right
Edit: See Jayprakash Dubey's answer for iTunes 12.7
From the menu shown in the following screenshot, choose Apps. You can drag and drop you IPA file in the next view.
After that, go to your device's page, you'll see the list of apps, install your app and press Apply from the bottom bar.
Tested on iTunes 12.5.3.17
1.Open the iTunes select the “Apps” section with in that select the “Library”
2.Now drag and drop the file AppName.ipa in this Library section (Before connecting your iOS device to your computer machine)
3.Now connect your iOS device to your computer machine, we are able to see our device in iTunes…
4.Select your device go to “Apps” section of your device and search your App in the list of apps with "Install" button infront of it.
5.Now hit the “Install” button and then press the “Done” button in bottom right corner, The “Install” button will turn in to “Will Install” one alert will be shown to you with two options “Don’t Apply”, “Apply”, hit on option “Apply”.
6.The “App installation” will start on your device with progress….
7.Finally the app will be installed on your iOS device and you will be able to use it…
IPA file are generally executable file for iOS app.
Approach used to install IPA in iTunes 12 is different as compared to lower versions.
Simply, add IPA file into iTunes library and search for IPA in apps section of connected device.
Click on install and Apply.
I found a solution for Windows users. All the other solutions i tried didn't work for Windows.
I have been searching about the same problem for a few days. iTunes make obligation to update itself to iTunes newer version for ios 11 phones and iTunes 12.7 version doesn't have apps section so i couldn't download anymore my ad hoc app ipa file and provision files to iPhone.
I just found out that there is an iTunes version (12.6.3) Apple published which won’t be prompted to download new versions of iTunes and you can use this version to download your app. You can dowload it from this link: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208079
Apple say if you have a newer version of iTunes you can just download this one over it but I couldn't do it like this. First, I removed iTunes from my computer, then I removed the iTunes folder from my musics folder (you probably don't need to do that) and I downloaded iTunes for 64 bit PC from the link I wrote above. And with this iTunes i can use Apps section again and it doesn't force me to update it. So it works like the good old times.
For iTunes 12.9.5.5 and above you can install the apps by Copying the IPA file and Paste it (Cmd+V or Edit -> Paste in iTunes) in any categories as Music/Films/TV Programmes etc. The app will be installed automatically on your iPhone screen.
Tested on 29 Nov 2019.
Demo:
Since iTunes 12.7 doesn't have "Application" section so it can't be done.
As a workaround I've found this answer.
I simply installed "Apple Configurator 2". Than:
Run application
Connect device
Unlock device
Drag IPA file to visualisation of device in "Apple Configurator 2"
Confirm action
I didn't had to "sign in" as described in on linked question answers
For iTunes 12.7.0 and above, you just need to Cmd+c your app and Cmd+v into your device on iTunes. Any tab works, including Summary, Music, Movies.
For the macOS Catalina 10.15.3 and onwards iTunes is no longer present in the system. all iTunes contents are added in Finder itself. So instead, open the Music app and drag-drop IPA as mentioned below.
installation itunes music ipa
Do not use any service similar to https://www.diawi.com/ as it can potentially have huge security implications. Using this kind of process and with some clever coding skills, a third party can inject extra stuff in you application. And they are basically charging you for something that you can do yourself.
In iTunes 12.7.x, it is still possible to install an ipa directly on a device with a simple drag-n-drop. Look at #ganesh ubale' solution here or the other answers at https://stackoverflow.com/a/46520816/609862 or https://stackoverflow.com/a/46229114/609862.
The Apple developer web site also have detailed information about how to configure a web site for installing an IPA wirelessly (by simply sharing the download link).
I just reset the device (erase all settings) and sync up with iTunes and now I can drag the app over to the phone library on iTunes (even though there is no apps tab). Once you sync. the app is then on the phone.
I'm having the worst time ever submitting an update to my Mac app. Everything was fine until I updated to Xcode 6. I'm in Mavericks, 10.9.4. I get the following error:
iTunes Store operation failed.
Unable to process application at this time due to the following error: iOS Apps must have a provisioning profile.
I have no idea why it says "iOS." Don't know if that's an Xcode bug or it thinks I'm making an iOS app. I used the same Xcode project file to submit the Mac app in the previous Xcode.
I have tried the following with no results:
• Revoked and deleted all certificates and provisioning profiles and started over.
• I created all certificates, provisioning profiles manually rather than Xcode managing them.
• Set the provisioning profile in "release" in the target and in a different occasion, in the project file.
• Gone into the project info and created a separate configuration.
The only "weird" thing I would say that I could be doing insanely obviously wrong is when I look at the options for code singing identity for release, it says "Mac Developer:yata" but there is no option for "Mac Distribution:(myname)" Should there be? I didn't need that in the past. Also, the only options that I can select are in a section called "identities in keychain." Should there be another section? "Identities in Xcode?"
Thank you for anyone that can help. I'll try pretty much anything at this point.
Solution for my case:
I got error in validation stage.
On organizer we see:
1) Go to Apple download page and download xCode 5.1.1
2) Double click on xcode_5.1.1.dmg
3) Copy xCode.app to Desktop
4) Rename xCode.app -> xCode511.app
5) Move xCode511.app -> Applications
6) Close xCode 6.1
7) Work with validation and upload in xCode511.app
UPDATED
8) Be careful ! ITC.apps.validation.prerelease_build_missing
I don't have Xcode right now, but here are the steps:
Delete your certificate and provisioning, both your mac and iTunes account
Regenerate the certificates and provisioning profile (distribution)
Download double click
Go to the account tab, then view account
All certificates and profiles will be listed refresh the stuff there
Clean and rebuild your app with the right provision and 3 party Mac developer
archive, validate and submit (select the right provison and match the app)
voila!
EDIT
Everything you will ever need to know :
https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/IDEs/Conceptual/AppDistributionGuide/Introduction/Introduction.html
I was having the same problem... finally I click on Submit and it worked! It seems that the problem is on Validate only.
Okay so our problem was that our company name had an apostrophe in it ---- could have the same issue if you have quotes in your company name as well. I contacted Apple for them to change it and then uploading worked from Xcode 5.1.1.
Using Xcode 4.5.2 and building for iOS4 or newer, I get this message when building for my device (iOS 6.0.1 on 4s). I dismiss the dialog then relaunch the app on my device which seems to work. I am newer to iOS development, so I aplogize in advance if this is a silly question.
Thank you in advance for your help.
My issue was using Distribution provisioning profile for signing the app, once I made a development provisioning profile, the app installed and ran on iPhone just fine.
The answer seems to be "you need to fix your provisioning profile", but can happen for several reasons, as indicated by other answers on here.
In my case, I hadn't added a new device to an existing developer provisioning profile, so I just re-created the profile with the new device, and it worked!
In my case happens all time I add a new device ID then update the provision profile, download and "install it on Xcode 5".
To fix this:
Go to Xcode>Preferences>Account Tab>Select Apple ID>View
Details>Refresh Button (Bottom left corner).
Reinitiate Xcode.
Start again the app, you will be able to test the app in the device.
Here's what my situation was and how I solved the problem:
I had been running the app from Xcode to my phone and all was fine
I switched to a different code signing identity (I had to change the bundle name also to match)
I ran the app to my phone and got the error. The app would install, but not open.
Did a bunch of stuff like Clean, close n open Xcode; delete the app from the phone. All to no good effect.
SOLUTION: turned the phone off n on.
Coincidence? I think not. :-)
XCode 6:
Just create provisioning profile for development and assing it to Project -> Build settings -> Provisioning profile
For upload you have to change provisioning profile for Distribution profile.
I had a working Mac application until I updated to XCode 4.4 and Mountain Lion. Now the application still compiles, but when I try to run it I get an error message.
error: failed to launch '/Users/username/James/mac/Browser/trunk/Browser/DerivedData/Browser/Build/Products/Debug/Browser.app/Contents/MacOS/Browser' -- Permission denied*
Can anybody explain why I might be getting this?
I found this on an iPhone 5 (iOS 6.0) newly set up for development. I had to manually launch the app on the phone, and it said "Are you sure you want to launch this app signed by this devloper?" Once I approved that, the "permission denied" went away and it now launches from Xcode.
Unlock the Device
Try simply unlocking your device before running on it. I was stumped by this very same issue. Upon building and running with no changes to OS, environment, code, etc., I was receiving the error.
Similar questions have been asked here and here, but were not helpful in this situation.
This is caused by an entitlement (and, presumably, having the wrong kind of certificate for it).
If you have the sandbox enabled, and try to sign with a Developer ID certificate, your application will crash on launch (as of Lion—I haven't tried this on Mountain Lion).
If you have iCloud enabled, and try to sign with a Developer ID certificate, your application will not launch at all—in Xcode, you'll get the error message in the question, and in Finder, the application will launch ever so briefly and then get SIGKILLed.
Presumably, there is a right kind of certificate with which one can sign an app in order to be able to test with a sandbox and maybe even iCloud that you can obtain if you have a Mac Developer Program membership. A Developer ID certificate is not that kind of cert.
(That solves my problem, anyway. Dennis, what kind of cert were you trying to sign with?)
Open the organizer and make sure you're mac is in developer mode.
Also check your gatekeeper settings.
The device is seeing the app as an "unauthorized app downloaded from the web" for lack of a better description. Go into Settings > Security & Privacy, and at the bottom, allow applications downloaded from Anywhere.
Throwing a few thoughts on the wall:
Are you perhaps building on an external disk? Some drives get special permissions (like the "ignore permissions" checkbox), or maybe have ACLs set in a weird way. Tried building on internal startup disk?
Are you code signing? Have you tried just turning that off, to see if there's a bug in code signing or entitlements? Not the first time a new codesign tool has a bug.
Have you tried using xcode-select and updating any command line tools that are installed to make sure they all match the version of Xcode used?
Do you have any shell script build phases or the likes that might be editing the application after it's been signed, thus breaking the signature?
Have you checked if your hard disk is full or there's a (broken?) symlink somewhere in a path, or a volume name that has been unmounted?
i am sure this is long been figured out, but I have been getting the Permission denied and it turned out I had to add my laptop to the provisioning profile. I had recently reimaged my machine and in doing so the provisioning profile was no longer valid for that machine. It worked fine until i enabled iCloud. That's when the permission denied started.
Check the organizer in XCODE, click on the devices tab and click on your machine on the left. Check to see that the UDID it shows is listed in the devices section in your mac developer portal.
The short answer is when you get this error message, there is no valid development provisioning profile in the built application.
That alone won't solve your problem! There are a number of common causes of this:
You've moved to a new machine and haven't installed the provisioning profile in Xcode. Also see below
You've moved to a new machine and it's not in developer mode OR not added to the provisioning profile
For both of these, let Xcode regenerate it, or do it yourself in the Member centre... You can validate the causes is something to do with your provisioning profile by running Console and filtering on taskgated where you can see which provisioning profile it is trying to use (it will pull the one embedded in the application first, then try to pull from any installed on the Mac).
Make sure you check in your build settings that the right one is being used for Debug builds. Simple steps that normally resolve (XCode 5)
Go to member centre and create a new development profile
Select the app and certificate
Validate that the machine you are using is in the list of machines to be included in the profile, tick the box
Generate the certificate
Download it, and drag it over the Xcode icon in the doc
Go to the Build Settings tab in your target and set the provisioning profile to the one you've just downloaded
You haven't configured your iCloud/APN/GameCenter entitlements correctly.
