we have a pc configurator, actually its not a "configured product" but a product with "custom options".
we want to have a "cartbox" that shows the selected attributes plus price that slides with the movement of the page down untill the user has viewed all options.
any ideas?
i am pretty sure that there is no ready module.
thanx for any help
This is a theming question for the product page template, but with some frontend programming thrown in for good measure...
You have to know a little bit about Prototype to tackle this 'purely in frontend javascript' but I think it can be done.
I am assuming you have a 'div' that is styled up to be 'position: fixed' so that it always stays to the right of the screen, no matter how you scroll down the page. Then in this div is a table (or more divs) that summarises all of your options. All of those table options are marked up with ids.
In your template code for the custom product options you can have some php code to detect the attribute-set for 'custom pc' and write out some extra front-end javascript. This is then able to listen to the changes to the custom options and update your extra summary information in the fixed position div.
Unless you are really good at Prototype you may want to give yourself 2-3 days to get the code in there, the same again for testing and putting in a modest amount of products.

Greetings of the Day!
I need to have the condition on the product page where we can let our customers input a fixed product quantity in quantity box using a button or radio button in the product page along with the default functionalities with the add to cart mechanism.
Why I need this is because I am using the product volume discount list on the product page and I want the customer to select the quantity directly from the mentioned list.
Pls, find the screenshot attached for reference.
Screenshot for reference
Customers can select the quantity directly from the red rectangle shown in the image through a button/radio/link click.
Hope somebody will help me out with this for which I would be greatly obliged.
Thanks.
to achieve that you should change the responsible tpl file, unless there is an override you should find it in /themes/YOUR THEME NAME/templates/catalog/_partials/product-add-to-cart.tpl
There look for the block {block name='product_quantity'}, right after you will see the input used for it, just build your html structure being aware that you should keep the same name and probably also the same standard classes (but you can add yours as well).
After that style your new radio input in /themes/YOUR THEME NAME/assets/css/custom.css and the trick is done.
I hope you are familiar with tpl/smarty if you have to inject some vars from php, in case you don't need that it is just pure html and css.
Hope my answer helped.

We have a Magento store on 1.5.0.1 Community Edition which uses configurable products with attribute sets to allow customers to select their preferred size and colour for a specific item (e.g., a shirt).
Each clothing range has its own attribute set, which was used to create the product, with simple products for each permutation of the product for stock keeping purposes.
We've compared all of the product's settings, and can't see any discrepancies between them, and yet one product range does not display the attribute drop-downs and add-to-cart button in the frontend, despite appearing in the frontend fine other than that.
I don't know if you have already found a solution, but after searching for a whole day, I've found what's causing the missing attributes in the front end for me... After deleting and readding simple products for a dozen times and making notes on the way I was quite sure that I correctly added simple and configurable products, so the problem has to be somewhere else. A casual look at the console in FireBug revealed a conflict in prototype.js... that's strange, since Magento comes with it. And I sure have not changed anything in it!
Did you at one point added jQuery to your Magento installation? If so, you HAVE to add 'jQuery.noComflict;' to the end of your jQuery file and the critical point is, to include the jQuery file BEFORE the prototype.js: The prototype.js is loaded by Magento in default/layout/page.xml at the beginning, so you have to add this line befor the prototype.js
jquery/jquery-1.2.6.noConflict.min.js
If you don't do that the drobdown item is shown but with not selectable entries, that's because the js/varien/product.js relies on the prototype.js to work. Without it your list won't be populated!
Hope it helps anyone searching for this mysterious problem... (the problem is also described here: Weird Chrome prototype/jQuery conflict)
Usually when the add-to-cart button does not display it is because your product has no inventory set. Remember that the configurable product needs to be set to in stock and the associated simple products have to have at least one item with non-zero inventory and be set as 'in stock'.
I already asked this question (like many before me) in the Magento 'How do I' forums and have not received any answers/ideas.
I want to create a customisable product (picture/mirror frames) by size (height/width) enabling the user to enter the size.
I have seen this done in another Magento site with the ability to select unit of measurement which is another excellent feature I would like to use.
Any ideas on how to achieve this would be greatly appreciated.
Take a look at custom options of an product. There is little documentation, but here you can determine attributes without fixed values like normal attributes have.
You can find the 'Custom options' tab while editing a product in the menubar at the left.
Ok so what I want is to have multiple simple products draw from the same stock.
Scenario
I have a sinle nail file (Stock:500)
I have a box of nail files (50/box)
I want it so that if someone buys a box then it deducts from the 500 stock of the singles. Essentially what we do is if someone buys a box, then we ship them 50 of the single files in a box.
Any easy way to do this?
This isn't a native function of Magento, so there a few approaches you can take to emulate it:
Use an external stock management package to keep track of stock and modify Magento to use that. This will require more backend modification.
Attempt to fool Magento by using product bundles in clever ways. This will require more frontend modification
Develop or find a Bill of Materials plugin for Magento. I didn't see anything after a short search, so you may have to build it. Have that module check the constituent materials for a product before allowing it to be added to the cart.
Hope that helps!
Thanks,
Joe
Consider:
Create a template for the products that you wish to order this way. This template need only be the files you need to modify, by default it will find the missing files from your default theme;
In the template you can place some PHP to write out some extra javascript, of the prototype variety;
This frontend code hides the real quantity box, with prototype 'hide' for the relevant css id to make it a hidden form field;
The code shows its own quantity box, also an extra field for how many of the fifty packs are required;
An onchange event on these boxes gets the values of the boxes, does the required multiplication and addition, then updates the hidden 'real' quantity box with (boxes*50)+singles;
On submit the customer sees in the cart the total quantity of the product ordered - this will be total units, not broken down 'per box'. If this is a problem, you can put some words to explain that or modify your main template to handle this and present to the customer the boxes+singles breakdown;
Set your products to use the 'new theme' that has your template update code.
Test, test, test!
As mentioned by Joseph this cannot be done out of the box. The above workaround is only partial, however, so long as you make it clear to customers that they are buying 500 units instead of 500 boxes then you should have a reasonable solution.
Basically, what I would like to do is have some attributes in the layered nav block show up only if a particular filter was set before. Here’s an example:
Customer goes into ‘rings’ category. There would be many different attributes displayed in the ‘shop by’ block, however I only want a few to be shown at this stage including: Material (white gold, yellow gold, silver etc.). If, and only if, the customer selected a material (specifically yellow or white gold), on the next page i would like there to be the ‘gold carat’ attribute available in this block. As it is at the moment ‘material’ and ‘gold carat’ are both shown in the layered nav which isn’t ideal.
Ive had a look at the code in app/design/frontend/default/default/template/catalog/layer but I can’t seem to get any inspiration.
Thanks for any help
Jamie
Jamie - Unfortunately, as I'm sure you have discovered, Magento doesn't do this out-of-the-box. The layered navigation is built based upon the available attributes (that have been set as filterable nav) for the category listing you are viewing.
You would have to write a custom module to override the layered nav output. A place to start could be /app/code/core/Mage/Catalog/Block/Layer/Navigation.php. Good luck!
