subversion server name change with ankhsvn - visual-studio-2010

IT has moved the location of the svn server to a different box. As a result all the source control paths need changed. I can't find where to do it in VS2010+AnkSvn. The change source control dialog (File-Subversion-Change Source Control) lists the SCC binding URL, but as a read-only value and doesn't appear to provide any way to change it.

I think it's the "Switch solution" button on the Pending Changes toolbar. Press it, enter the new URL and press OK.

Right click on project in VS, goto subversion and select 'switch project'. here you can change your svn server.

TFS - Files doesn't get check out for edit automatically when I edit

I am using VS2010 SP1 and TFS Version 10.0.40219.417
Now what happens is that I attempt to type in a non-checked out file, and well, nothing happens. VS does not check out the file. I have to manually check out the file for check in.
It's happening with me only. On my colleague system it's working fine. I have cross checked all the settings he has done in his VS2010. Please suggest what should I do ?
You probably covered this in "I have cross checked all the settings", but I'm going to ask anyway.
From How to: Disable Automatic Checkouts
In Visual Studio, on the Tools menu, click Options.
In the Options dialog box, click Source Control, and then click
Environment.
In the On Edit box, select a different option than Check out
automatically. The other available options are as follows:
Prompt for check out
Prompt for exclusive checkouts
Do nothing
Click OK.
Do you have "Do nothing" checked?
EDIT:
If the above setting is correct the next thing I would double check is if the solution is "Online". I have lost the connection without realizing it several times, it is worth an extra check.
To check:
Right-click on the solution name at the top of the Solution
Explorer and check if you have the "Go Online" option

Is there a way to show the current TFS workspace in Visual Studio?

I'm looking for a way to have the current TFS workspace displayed in Visual Studio.
It's visible when I open the Source Control Explorer (or Pending Changes), but I want it to be visible too when I'm editing code. So for example showing it in the toolbar, or in the window titlebar, or in the bottom status bar, doesn't matter as long as I can see it with a single glance.
Any tips?
You can use the "Rename Visual Studio Window Title" extension https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/f3f23845-5b1e-4811-882f-60b7181fa6d6 and use the [workspaceName] attribute. Hope it helps.
There is a add on that shows this info, you can dock it somewhere :
http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/384a4952-6b6f-4391-bc59-1b2bd38e1baf
There are a couple of options to do this without an additional plugin.
Use the Properties view
Select the solution, a project, or any file in Solution Explorer
Press F4 to go to the Properties view. The full path to your solution will be shown.
Note that right-clicking the solution or project and selecting Properties (Alt-Enter) will take you to the Properties Pages which doesn't have the information you want.
Use the Source Control Explorer
Opening Source Control Explorer will show you the last accessed workspace. Most of the time, this will be the workspace for the solution you are working on. However, if you have had two Visual Studio sessions open for different workspaces, I have seen the first VS session switch to the workspace of the other VS session.
Use the Pending Changes view
Pending Changes will show the workspace just under the header for the view.
You can get to Pending Changes through:
Team Explorer => Pending Changes
View => Other Windows => Pending Changes
Hover the mouse over an open file, the tooltip will show the full path to the file.

How Connect to remote host from Aptana Studio 3

I am using CODA from a long time .. now i use aptana studio 3
my Question
How Connect to remote host from Aptana Studio 3?
thanks
From the Project Explorer, expand the project you want to hook up to a remote site (or just right click and create a new Web project that's empty if you just want to explore a remote site from there). There's a "Connections" node, right click it and select "Add New connection...". A dialog will appear, at bottom you can select the destination as Remote and then click the "New..." button. There you can set up an FTP/FTPS/SFTP connection.
That's how you set up a connection that's tied to a project, typically for upload/download/sync between it and a project.
You can also do Window > Show View > Remote. From that view, you can click the globe icon in the upper right to add connections and in this view you can just browse your remote connections.
Window -> Show View -> Other -> Studio/Remote
(Drag this tabbed window wherever)
Click the add FTP button (see below); #profit
There's also an option to Auto Sync built-in in Aptana.

Is there a way to detach a project from CVS in Xcode?

XCode's CVS support is abysmally bad. Or maybe it's just the server in my organization. Either way, it's leading to more headaches than it's worth so I'd like to "detatch" the project as I can in Eclipse. Is there an easy way to do this or do I have to manually delete all of the CVS files?
You have two choices.
Double click on your project in the main source list to bring up the "Project "myProject" Info" window. Make sure the "General" tab is selected. At the bottom of that tab select "None" from the "SCM Repository" popup menu and close the window.
Or, go to Xcode Preferences window and select the "SCM" tool, select the repository you want to remove, and then remove the repository using the "-" button in the lower left hand corner of the dialog box. This option is a bit more drastic.
These should both leave all of the invisible CVS directories alone. This will allow you to manage the repository from the command line and completely hide the CVS info from Xcode.
Good Luck.

Open Dialog preserving settings

How does one preserve the settings in the Open Dialog box? For example, I would the Open Dialog to remember that I chose the Details view and sorted by date modified.
Microsoft didn't see fit to give us any documented way of doing this, but some people have figured out bits of the puzzle. This link shows how to set the view, but not how to get the current setting:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc164009.aspx
I'm not quite sure about this about isn't it an OS setting. If the user choose their Folder Preferences such as then Windows will remember or not. In this case from accessibility and usability point of view this is User's preferences.
You could inherit from the dialog's class and then see what can be overriden to do the persistence of its state.
Simple non-technical solution.
This worked for me (WinXP SP3) in some cases but not all. Since you don't have the option of changing things in a common Open dialog, you can try to do it in Windows Explorer.
Open Windows Eplorer. If you want to change the sort order, go to the details view and click on the column to sort, normally Name, but you may want to sort by Date. Now change
the view back to whatever you want. Now select "Tools" then "Folder Options". On the General tab, for "Tasks" select "Use Windows classic folders," for "Browse folders" select "Open each folder in same window." Now click the "View" tab. Scroll down and check the box for "Remember each folders view settings." If it's already checked, uncheck it then check it again. Click the "Apply" Button at the botton of the window. Click the "Apply to All Folders" button near the top. These settings may show up in your Open dialog. Having done this you can now change the settings in Windows Explorer or any other Folder window that allows you to change them and that Folder window should remember them. This fixed the Open dialog in my qraphics editor but not in my video editor.
