integrating reports in a netbeans platform application - reporting

I am looking for a way to integrate jasper reports in a netbeans platform application. I have googled this and there seem to be no direct answer, so am asking to be helped in this.
to be specific i use a MySql database and ireport designer to design my reports. I need to display the specific reports in a report viewer and display it in a top component.
please direct me on a way to accomplish this.

It seems like you should be using the JRViewer component.
Have a look at this Jasper Reports Swing tutorial. The only difference is that instead of embedding your JRViewer in a JFrame you'll be embedding it in a TopComponent

OpenERP basic reports

OpenERP is one of the best ERP applications I ever used.
I found that almost everything must be built from the beginning to meet the specific needs for each one including the analysis reports, but there are some basic packages already built.
Since I am new to OpenERP functionality and still haven't learned how to create reports in OpenERP, I need to know if there is any addons/extra module that provides me some basic and ready to print reports and listings for the several modules. This reports and listings will help me to better understand and learn the functional part of the application and will allow me on a future to better understand how to build reports and listings in OpenERP.
If anyone can provide me a link or repository with such information I will be greatfull.
Thank you very much
Regards
Paulo Matos
There are various ways of creating reports with openerp. They are (i've prioritized)
Webkit (for html, web designers - this will be a great utility)
OpenOffice (for any office person with minimal technical skills)
RML (Strictly for programmers :))
Jasper Report (good for people with java-reporting base)
Aeroo (Rich functionality of exporting to excel, word etc, still i am not comfortable in aeroo with openerp 7)
Pentaho Report Designer (A reporting tool from pentaho )
These links will help you in understanding better, setup environment and learn from the sample modules and reports. However you need to design what u need with one of the reporting type.

Reporting from Odoo / OpenERP can be very frustrating at times. We have found over the years that no single solution is great for every need.
The built in reporting mechanisms mentioned in the first answer (rml / openoffice) have been somewhat deprecated and replaced with qweb reporting which renders similarly in HTML or PDF. They can be difficult to get fine-grained control and alignment, a lot of work to achieve non-regular reporting structures and cross tab reports, but are fast and easy to use for straightforward "document" type reports (such as orders / invoices).
I cannot comment on Jasper or Aeroo, as I have not used them.
Using Pentaho Reports for Odoo can be great because they are primarily reporting engines. They can do wonderful things with data, present them in great ways.
One upside with this connector is its ability to access Data using the object layer, or SQL, or both in one report if necessary (using sub-reports for example), as well as custom methods!
One downside we have found with Pentaho Reporting is that as the code base changes for OpenERP/Odoo, the connector changes, and configuration has to be continually re-vesited.
The latest version supports Odoo version 8 and version 5.4 of Pentaho reporting engine.

PDF Manipulation in Expression Engine

I am currently working on a project using the Expression Engine Framework, which as a c# developer is a little alien to me!
I am needing a pdf manipulation plugin for EE so that every PDF a client uploads has their profile's link appearing at the bottom (preferably clickable but not essential). I have had a look around but cannot find anything to help me. There is a watermarker in EE for images but not for PDFs which is annoying.
In C# we have Itextsharp which does the job perfectly - I wonder if I am going to have write a custom EE Extension to do the job for me.
Just wondered if anybody out there has ever had to do something similar and can point me in the right direction.
Many Thanks!
There are many ways to modify PDF's with PHP. See PDF Editing in PHP?

These are just libraries, so load one into the application and use it in your controller.

can I use BIRT without Eclipse?

I'd like to use BIRT as stand-alone application (without Eclipse).
How is it possible?
Could I run BIRT as web service?
Does BIRT have web interface?
Thank you
BIRT and Eclipse can not be seperated, kind of like playing Wii without a Television is not possible.
But your user interface can be a web page. Apache is often choosen as delivery tool.
You can download open source BIRT from http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/
If you have any issues getting set up, pretty much every solution can be found by Google.

Asp.net MVC3 reporting system

I am building a new asp.net MVC3 web application for reporting and I want to know the best way to create reports.
I've tried to use Crystal reports but its has some issues in implementation and styling so Is there is a free or customized solution for that?
After alot of searching in google i found a good solution that meets my needs that is a free open source tool here called doddleReports it creates pdf, excel, csv comma delimited, HTML report
I have used worddocgenerator.codeplex.com as a reporting tool in one lightweight ASP.NET application. It allows you to generate data bound content with very few code.
To preview reports you can use the Open Xml Viewer

What is the simplest way to set up a BIRT report viewer for a xulrunner application?

I recently began using BIRT and have developed a report to use with my xulrunner application. What I haven't yet figured out is how I should deploy the viewer. It seems like BIRT mostly targets Java applications, so there are instructions for deploying on J2EE, JBoss, and other technologies -- with which I am not familiar (but I'm not developing in Java anyway).
Reviewing this article on deploying BIRT and reviewing the deployment details on BIRT's web site, I'm not sure where to go. I wasn't expecting to have to add some large Java dependency for the xulrunner application --is there no way I can drop an executable in with my xulrunner app, call it from my app, and pass it a report document? (Or something else that would be simpler than learning and using J2EE, JBoss, tomcat?)
It appears that there is a genReport.bat file in the run-time somewhere that can generate reports from the command line. This appears to be what I need, and this article describes it.
(11/2014) I'm going to add:
download Birt runtime from: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/birt/downloads/drops/R-R1-4_3_0-201306131152/birt-runtime-4_3_0.zip
extract somewhere and set a new Environment variable BIRT_HOME=path_to_where_you_extracted
remember to add your database library into \ReportEngine\lib , (ex: jtds.jar)
Open a console inside ReportEngine dir and run:
genReport.bat -f PDF -o PATH/GENERATED_REPORTS/REPORT.pdf -F "PATH/TO/REPORT.rptdesign"
And that's all what I needed to do
