No ServerSide validation
No complex validation using Regex
Impossible to fill in dropdownlist options from a DB or an xml file
Impossible to set up workflows except e-mails
did I miss something that could change my opinion and make me buy this product ??
it does what it says it does. So it looks like a good module. Would be nice to have server side validation.
It works for me in IE8.

I am using Magento version 1.7.0.2 and have created a custom module, in which there is a form that allows user to pass information in to the database.
I need to validate user input and looking around Google all i can see is front-end validation tutorials, I assume magento has server side validation tools? Based on this assumption I had a look in mage/core/customer/block/form/register.php and mage/core/customer/helper/data.php but have been unable to find anything of help, am i looking in the wrong place?
I am aware Zend has some validation, and will use that if Magento has not got it's own/extended zend validation.
In short, does Magento have it's own validation apart from the javascript validation tools?
Magento uses Zend for validation, you can take a look inside Mage/Customer/Model/Customer.php at the method validate()
I am currently evaluating grid components for our new portal project. I came across the jqGrid which I find quite interesting. One requirement I have is that the portal should work with javascript switched off.
I found this article on StackOverflow but it does not answer the question. Does anyone can tell me how jqGrid is dealing with this?

Is it what you plan? Do you want that your portal works without JavaScript and produce pure HTML tables which hold the data without any Ajax requests, but in case of the user do has JavaScript on you want to use JavaScript, jQuery and jqGrid?
In the corresponding answer it was suggested to use tableToGrid function to convert the existing HTML table inclusive the contain to the jqGrid. It seems me the way which you can also follow. Why you are not satisfied with the answer?
To tell the trust I have no customers more where JavaScript is switched off. Do you want to develop the portal for some mobile devices or some other special endpoints which has no JavaScript? In my opinion JavaScript have to be on to be able to use Internet for the better productivity. So the portal which work without JavaScript will have the interface which is not up to date now. Either you have very special customer environment or the requirement seems me too hard.
What is the best way to do validation in MVC 3? Here are the requirements:
Works client and server side.
Shares as much code between client and server as possible (attribute on model property seems ideal)
Works across async request
Display errors, validation messages, and success messages coming from the server side
Unobtrusive javascript, as minimal as possible
Dynamically added HTML should still validate the same way
My task this weekend is to build a robust solution for this, figured I'd ask here first before re-inventing or re-discovering the wheel with blood sweat and tears.
I would check out Brad Wilson's blog on this. He covers using unobtrusive validation in MVC3, sounds like exactly what you're looking for.

Regarding server side validation (custom validation), check out #jfar's response to a similar question I posted regarding custom validation -- he suggests that you should question your design if you're relying heavily on custom validation. In my case, I ended up going either with Ajax to handle my custom validation, or allowed the postback to perform the validation.
I am trying to find the optimal architecture for an ajax-heavy Django application I'm currently building. I'd like to keep a consistent way of doing forms, validation, fetching data, JSON message format but find it exceedingly hard to find a solution that can be used consistently.
Can someone point me in the right direction or share their view on best practice?
I make everything as normal views which display normally in the browser. That includes all the replies to AJAX requests (sub pages).
When I want to make bits of the site more dynamic I then use jQuery to do the AJAX, or in this case AJAH and just load the contents of one of the divs in the sub page into the requesting page.
This technique works really well - it is very easy to debug the sub pages as they are just normal pages, and jQuery makes your life very easy using these as part of an AJA[XH]ed page.
For all the answers to this, I can't believe no one's mentioned django-piston yet. It's mainly promoted for use in building REST APIs, but it can output JSON (which jQuery, among others, can consume) and works just like views in that you can do anything with a request, making it a great option for implementing AJAX interactions (or AJAJ [JSON], AJAH, etc whatever). It also supports form validation.
I can't think of any standard way to insert ajax into a Django application, but you can have a look to this tutorial.

+1 to Nick for pages displaying normally in the browser. That seems to be the best starting point.
The problem with the simplest AJAX approaches, such as Nick and vikingosegundo propose, is that you'll have to rely on the innerHTML property in your Javascript. This is the only way to dump the new HTML sent in the JSON. Some would consider this a Bad Thing.
Unfortunately I'm not aware of a standard way to replicate the display of forms using Javascript that matches the Django rendering. My approach (that I'm still working on) is to subclass the Django Form class so it outputs bits of Javascript along with the HTML from as_p() etc. These then replicate the form my manipulating the DOM.
From experience I know that managing an application where you generate the HTML on the server side and just "insert" it into your pages, becomes a nightmare. It is also impossible to test using the Django test framework. If you're using Selenium or a similar tool, it's ok, but you need to wait for the ajax request to go return so you need tons of sleeps in your test script, which may slow down your test suite.
If the purpose of using the Ajax technique is to create a good user interface, I would recommend going all in, like the GMail interface, and doing everything in the browser with JavaScript. I have written several apps like this using nothing but jQuery, state machines for managing UI state and JSON with ReST on the backend. Django, IMHO, is a perfect match for the backend in this case. There are even third party software for generating a ReST-interface to your models, which I've never used myself, but as far as I know they are great at the simple things, but you of course still need to do your own business logic.
With this approach, you do run into the problem of duplicating code in the JS and in your backend, such as form handling, validation, etc. I have been thinking about solving this with generating structured information about the forms and validation logic which I can use in JS. This could be compiled at deploy-time and be loaded as any other JS file.
Also, avoid XML. The browsers are slow at parsing it, it is a pain to generate and a pain to work with in the browser. Use JSON.

I want to create my own form that are submitted and values of that form will be stored in joomla database. How can i used the Joomla connection code to interacte with the joomla database.
If you just want to get your work done, there are some components already avaiable in Joomla Extension's website to your form's needs. CkForms is a good one, you can create simple forms with it that are automatically saved in the database (supports upload of files too).
If you want to learn how to write extensions in Joomla, you should read Joomla Official Documentation website.
Extensions in Joomla are divided in "Components", "Modules" and "Plugins". More informations about these differences can be found here and here.
What you're trying to achieve sounds a "component" to me. Downloading the CkForms and reading it's source code should get you started to Joomla's way of writing components.
EDIT: Joomla has a huge API with a lot of features. It has a database module of it's own, with insert methods and such. Reading Joomla's API website before implementing your component it's a good idea to avoid "reinventing the wheel" and it's a good practice since those methods are extensively tested by all Joomla users.

Of course, as another mentioned above, if you are building a module, component, or application, you will need to learn how to to develop a module, component or application. Of these three, the module is the easiest to implement.
The application gives you much freedom b/c you are not constrained to the CMS paradigm, front and back end complexities. However, there is little documentation about how to develop applications with Joomla framework b/c joomla as a framework is relatively new

Or you could just create add a html module to any position and then write the form in html i.e.

Now just create a page that handles the code by emailing or inserting into db. I havent tried it but i think it should work.

You have two options:
Use an already built custom form extension
Create your own custom form extension (or outsource it)
Now if you only want to modify the user registration form, then you can do some PHP customization to accomplish your goal.
Making forms in Joomla can be done in a couple of ways.
If you just wanted a contact us, you can just create a page with a menu item for the User contact form. This gives you a page with a Members address and contact form. So all you would need to do was add the user as the company of the websites home address and email. But the form is very basic, name, title, textarea for message.
Next up from that you could just make a Custom HTML module add add a form to it in plain HTML like +Sean said above this, you would need to code in PHP your own form process script. You would not get error in form data checking unless you also wrote it.
Next you might rather look on the Joomla Extension Directory JED for one of the good extensions for 3 and 2.5 Joomla RSForms!Pro is good, and can do all we have needed. This lets you add fields one by one and move your form around. Then can auto generate or custom the html of the form.

Also possibility of extension of Normal joomla registeration. It will not extend the core registration but at the time of registration you can take various information from users.
