Having trouble getting an SQL query converted to Linq to Entities - linq

I have the following SQL query:
SELECT Comment, JD, Jurisdiction, RegStatus, Region, SPDR_NAME
FROM dbo.Registered_status_by_year
GROUP BY Comment, JD, SPDR_NAME, Region, Jurisdiction, RegStatus
HAVING (Region = #Region) ORDER BY JD
I am trying to convert it to linq to entities. I have the following, so far:
var result = (from x in myEntities.IRTStatusByYearSet
group x by new { x.Comment, x.JD, x.SPDR_NAME, x.Region, x.Jurisdiction, x.RegStatus } into g
select g);
The problem is that I can't seem to use the "orderby" because "g" doesn't have any "properties" that are the column names.
Does anyone know how I might do this? I have looked for examples of doing the order by with grouping, but all of them show only grouping by one thing, or ordering by the "count" of items in grouping, instead of by some other value.

Have you tried orderby g.Key.JD?
var result = (from x in myEntities.IRTStatusByYearSet

orderby g.Key.JD

Dynamic Linq core

Hi I am using a Jqwidgets Grid to display my data. It has a build in possibility to use filters but if you filter your records on the server side you have to build your own query. As I am working with Linq I thought to use the Dynamic Linq Library for Asp net core. Problem is there are not many examples or explanations how to do this. But I am busy for days now and not getting very far.The way I am setup; I have a normal Linq query:

This query is running OK and gives me all the data I need for the Grid.
Then for the filter I would like to add a dynamic Linq Query using the System.Linq.Dynamic.Core library
But this is as far as I get things working until now:
var outQuery = Mut.Where("Status = #0 and UserId = #1", "Nieuw", "KLM22940").Select("Status");
My questions now :
1. In the where clause If I make the fieldname variable I get an error. how to do this??
2. In the Select Clause, how to add multiple Columns? (actually I just like to output all columns.)
Best would be to see an example. has somebody used Dynamic Linq to build a dynamic linq query for the JQWidgets Grid?

In what way you are trying to use fieldname variable in where clause ?
If you want to output all columns you can use ToList()
like
var outQuery = Mut.Where("Status = #0 and UserId = #1", "Nieuw", "KLM22940").ToList();
If you want to get some specific columns you can use Select clause like this
var outQuery = Mut.Where("Status = #0 and UserId = #1", "Nieuw", "KLM22940").Select("new(Status,UserId )");
This Select clause creates data class which contains Status and UserId properties and returns a sequence of instances of that data class.

C# Linq orderby only works for fields returned?

I want to do a Linq query that joins three tables, but only returns data from two of them (the third is only joined for ordering purposes). I'm trying to order by columns that aren't in the output of the produced query, but they seem to be ignored:

The output SQL from this does NOT have an ORDER BY clause.
If I change the orderby to read like so:
orderby q.Id
... then the output SQL has the order by clause.
Does Linq ignore orderby statements when the mentioned columns aren't used in the output (as appears to be the case here)? If so, how do I order by columns not in the output?
It seems this is an SQL limitation. The error from the SQL Server engine:
"ORDER BY items must appear in the select list if SELECT DISTINCT is specified."
So, as written, I can't do what I want to do.
I ended up using:

Note: When you attempt to use order by and distinct as in my original clause, no error is given, entity framework silently discards the order by without any error.

Linq and grouping with three tables

I've come up with the following LINQ, but I can't help thinking that I should be able to do this in one query instead of two. Can anyone help?
The idea is to inner join three tables and group by one.

Well, you can just bracket things:
var query = from p in Places
join rules from
(from er in ExportRules
join per in PlaceExportRules
on er.ExportRulesID equals per.ExportRulesID
...)
on p.PlaceId equals rules.PlaceId into joined2
where joined2.Any()
orderby p.PlaceName
select new {Place = new {p.PlaceID, p.PlaceName}, joined2};
However, I'd personally probably leave it as two queries. It's clearer, and won't affect the performance - it's not like the first statement in your code would actually execute the query.

How do I retrieve only certain subobjects in LINQ?

I have an entity object (Company) which has 1 or more subobjects (CompanyRevision) represented as a non-null FK relationship in the database.
Using LINQ, I want to get all the Companies from the database, but I also only want the latest CompanyRevision for each company.
This is how I do it today, but I have a feeling this could be done using one query.
IEnumerable<Company> companyList = from p in ctx.Company.Include("CompanyRevisions")
select p;
foreach(Company c in companyList)
{
CompanyRevision cr = (from p in c.CompanyRevisions
orderby p.Timestamp descending
select p).First();
// Do something with c and cr...

As you can see, I would like to add this second LINQ query (the one that gets the latest CompanyRevision) into the first one, so that companyList[i].CompanyRevisions is basicly a list with just one entry (the latest one). I can't for the life of my figure out how to do this. Please help!

how about this: mixing the linq language and extension methods:
var results = from p in ctx.Company.Include("CompanyRevisions")
select new {Company = p,
Revision = p.CompanyRevisions.OrderByDescending(cr => cr.Timestamp).First()
}
Each result now has a Company and Revision member.
It's possible that you could also do this -
var results = from p in ctx.Company.Include("CompanyRevisions")
select new {Company = p,
Revision = (from pcr in p.CompanyRevisions
orderby pcr.Timestamp descending
select pcr).First()
}
To give the same results.
Although that's a guess - I haven't labbed that one out; but it's how I would try it first.

Stuck on a subquery that is grouping, in Linq`

I have some Linq code and it's working fine. It's a query that has a subquery in the Where clause. This subquery is doing a groupby. Works great.
The problem is that I don't know how to grab one of the results from the subquery out of the subquery into the parent.
Frst, here's the code. After that, I'll expplain what piece of data i'm wanting to extract.

I wish to include in that the ReviewCount (from the subquery). I'm jus not sure how.
To help understand the problem, this is what the data looks like.

Parent Query

So the subquery grabs the actual data i need. The parent query determines the correct product, based on the subquery filters.

Got it myself. Take note of the double from at the start of the query, then the Any() being replaced by a Where() clause.

While I don't understand LINQ completely, but wouldn't the JOIN work?
I know my answer doesn't help but it looks like you need a JOIN with the inner table(?).
I agree with shahkalpesh, both about the schema and the join.
You should be able to refactor...
r => r.IdProductCode_Alpha == a.IdProductCode_Alpha &&
r.IdProductCode_Beta == a.IdProductCode_Beta &&
r.IdProductCode_Gamma == a.IdProductCode_Gamma
into an inner join with tblProducts.
