F# fails to install on MonoDevelop 2.8 for Mac - macos

I foolishly upgraded my MonoDevelop to 2.8 on my Mac, and the F# binding now fails to install from the http://functional-variations.net/addin repo - it needs v2.4 and MonoDevelop has moved to v2.6 of the Core and Ide. Does anyone know how I can get MonoDevelop 2.8 to play nicely with F#, or how I should roll back?

I tried to install FSharpBinding to MonoDevelop 2.8 or 2.6 and didn't succeed. The reason is that FSharpBinding is obsolete and incompatible with newest versions of MonoDevelop (see detailed discussions here). So first remove MonoDevelop 2.8 or 2.6 and their associated files, and install MonoDevelop 2.4.2.
You didn't mention versions of FSharp and Mono. Some old versions work fine with FSharpBinding from http://functional-variations.net/addin repo. However, when I tried to install Mono 2.10.x which includes F# compilers making it easier to set up F# development environment, FSharpBinding didn't work again. I followed the suggestion by above discussion and install FSharpBinding from source, and it's working ok. So the current configuration in my Mac is MonoDevelop 2.4.2, Mono 2.10.x/ FSharp 2.0 and FSharpBinding compiled from source.
You can find the detailed guideline here about how to install the whole F# development environment (including FSharpBinding) from source.
UPDATE:
FSharpBinding has been released for MonoDevelop 3.0. Install MonoDevelop 3.0 (which requires Mono 2.10.9 onwards) and you can install FSharpBinding via Add-In Manager.

Upgrade to OneSignal 4.0 SDK not compatible with PCL Profile44 and others Visual Studio Mac 2022

when trying to install the OneSignal 4.x SDK to the shared project part of my pcs project I get the following error:
OneSignalSDK.Xamarin 4.1.0 with .NETPortable,Version=v4.5,Profile=Profile259.
Package OneSignalSDK.Xamarin 4.1.0 is not compatible with portable45-net45+win8+wp8+wpa81 (.NETPortable,Version=v4.5,Profile=Profile259). Package OneSignalSDK.Xamarin 4.1.0 supports:
monoandroid41 (MonoAndroid,Version=v4.1)
netstandard2.0 (.NETStandard,Version=v2.0)
xamarinios (Xamarin.iOS,Version=v0.0)
I tried almost every other Profile with the same result. I cant get this to install.
The SDK installs fine in the iOS and Android projects. And the former sdk 3.x also installed fine.
Any help on this would be great!
Thanks

How can I update monodevelop3.0.6 and retain mono3.0.3 in OSX?

Xamarin update reverts my mono version to 2.10.9. I don't want that as I need mono >= 3.0. F# projects will not load under mono 2.10.9. I explain more below. The issue is made more pointed as I would like to update monodevelop but not mono but I cannot choose which Xamarin updates to install. [I tried the update in the hope it would notice that my current version of mono is higher; but indeed it removed mono3.0.3 and f# 3.0 and my f# projects no longer load]
Am I missing something there? Is there a way of managing updates besides manual download and install as it seems autoupdate is broken for me? I've now reverted the update: is there a way of using my existing monodevelop, or is it necessary to reinstall it too (the same problem remains even after installing mono 3.0.3)?
My current setup appears to work:
Running mono 3.0.3 mre (beta) and monodevelop 3.0.6 on OSX Snow Leopard.
Why the dependence on mono 3.0.3? Because I need fsharpbinding for my projects and in the latest monodevelop that requires f# 3.0 and that (on osx at least) requires mono 3.0.3. I've looked at other so/sx questions but they relate to earlier versions of mono/develop.

The Update dialog doesn't seem to allow you to choose a particular package to update. Regarding auto-removing Mono runtimes, it is a known bug which has been reported here.

I usually do manual update: download the latest MonoDevelop and overwrite the old one in Applications folder. It needs a few clicks but is safer to do. I also do similarly for FSharpBinding: go to Add-in Manager --> F# Language Binding and click Update.

Assume that autoupdate gives you a new MonoDevelop and erases Mono 3.0.3. After reinstalling Mono 3.0.3, you need to set Preferences --> .NET runtimes --> Mono 3.0.3 as default and possibly remove and install FSharpBinding again. You don't have to reinstall MonoDevelop once more.
That said, be cautious with autoupdate feature. Unless you are sure that all updates (Mono, MonoDevelop, FSharpBinding) are correct, don't do it.

Difficulty in uninstalling older phonegap versions

How do i uninstall an already existing version of phonegap(1.3,1.8) because i want to install the new 2.0 and it does'nt get installed without uninstalling older versions. The folder structure of my older version 1.8 does'nt have uninstall option.
Any suggestions are welcome.Thanks.
Cordova 2.0 onwards doesn't really have an 'installer' so you should be perfectly fine to leave your 1.3 if you like.
They only recommend uninstalling old versions if you are not going to use it so that the project template is removed from XCode. If you don't care about that you can leave the old version.
Just follow the upgrade steps from http://docs.phonegap.com/en/2.1.0/guide_upgrading_index.md.html#Upgrading%20Guides to start using 2.1 (which is now out and you should use)

How to install the latest version of the apple llvm compiler?

I am new to iOS development. I've recently stumbled upon the new objective-c collection-literals syntax on an article, and I would like to be able to use this newer version of the language. How can I install the newest version of the apple llvm compiler without having to install xCode's newest version?
You can get LLVM separately from Xcode at llvm.org, though you may find some of the new features don't work well without IDE and framework support.

iOS4.2 and iOS4.1 on the same machine?

I'd like to start testing iOS4.2 so I downloaded xcode 3.2.5 and iOS4.2 beta SDK. Unfortunately, I think it installed over my previous xcode 3.2.4 and SDK 4.1. Short of downloading 3.2.4 and 4.1 and installing to another directory, is there a way to get the 4.1 SDK into 3.2.5 and compile both SDK versions?
Thanks!
Seems like with the release of iOS 4.2, Apple is going to want 4.2 to reign king. At least with Xcode 3.2.5 GM, the only SDK included is 4.2.
You can have two versions of Xcode installed though - when choosing what optional things you want to uninstall, uncheck everything and change the location Xcode installs to (it defaults to /Developer). I was able to get 3.2.5 (can compile against 4.2) and 3.2.4 (everything else) running and working on the same machine. This will allow you to have both the 4.2 and 4.1 SDKs on the same machine.
Good luck!
