Using a UIPickerview - xcode

I have this code that i did on Xcode 4.2 in a tabbed application and it works perfectly but what i would like it to be is a drop down menu in to a picker view but I'm not to sure what code i will need to add can you guys help heres my code
.h
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#interface FirstViewController : UIViewController {
IBOutlet UIPickerView *pickerView;
NSMutableArray *list;
IBOutlet UILabel *picklabel;
}
#end
.m
#import "FirstViewController.h"
#implementation FirstViewController
-(NSInteger)numberOfComponentsInPickerview:(UIPickerView *)thePickerView {
return 1;
}
-(NSInteger)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)thePickerView numberOfRowsInComponent:(NSInteger)component {
return [list count];
}
-(NSString *)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)thePickerView titleForRow:(NSInteger)row forComponent:(NSInteger)component { return [list objectAtIndex:row];
}
-(void)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)thePickerView titleForRow:(NSInteger)row inComponent:(NSInteger)component {
NSString *string = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"you selected: %#" , [list objectAtIndex:row]];
picklabel.text = string;
}
- (void)viewDidUnload
{
[super viewDidUnload];
list = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init];
[list addObject:#"Giraffe"];
[list addObject:#"Water Bottle"];
[list addObject:#"spinning Fan"];
[list addObject:#"Hariy Monkey"];
// Release any retained subviews of the main view.
// e.g. self.myOutlet = nil;
}

Follow this steps:
On selection of each pickerview, add that data to one mutable array
Each time reload your table view with that data (mutable array)
Selected data will get added to your tabular list.
Enjoy Coding :)

NSContainerView with multiple child view controllers in Xcode 6

I'm trying to link two different view controllers in an Xcode 6 storyboard with a NSContainerView so that they can be switched conditionally. Unfortunately this tutorial here isn't of any help since things seem to have changed since in Xcode.
So I have two different view controllers and one of them is loaded into the container view by default but I want to be able to load the second view controller into the container view programmatically. Xcode 6 only allows to create embed Segues when I drag from one to the other so that's not much of a help.
Can somebody tell me how this is achieved with Xcode 6?
First, here's a sample GitHub project of the solution: click. I wasn't sure whether you wanted to swap the views or simply push the 2nd view onto a proverbial stack, so I went with a push/pop scheme. If you want to swap the views instead, you should be able to do that fairly easily by just skipping the stack storage.
Essentially, we have our "host" NSViewController that holds a Container View (CV) inside of it. This host doesn't actually manually manage the view controller that the CV is showing at the moment. The way this is done is through, well, a sort of nested view controller that then manages all the other view controllers that you're going to show/hide/push/pop/swap/etc. (Note: you might be able to remove the layering a bit, but in iOS terms, I'm treating the 'Sub View Controller Manager' in the storyboard screenshot sort of like a UINavigationController).
We also take advantage of some custom segues/segue animators in order to be able to do more work in the storyboard.
You just have to tell the content view manager view controller to manipulate its subviews in such a way that the old views that you want to pop "back" to are retained (in this case, using an NSMutableArray) and such that the new views have the right frame or have their constraints set up properly.
Here is a screenshot of the storyboard: Each segue you see on the storyboard of a custom type (looks like this -> { } ) is of type SegueBetweenEmbedded in the sample project. Buttons that push perform a segue, and buttons labeled 'Pop' perform dismissController: on the NSViewController (so that was done in the storyboard).
Here's some code (and there's a lot of it, so I suggest looking at the sample project instead):

#import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h>
#import "ContentManagerViewController.h"

Performing a Segue from a table with searchbar to an UIImage in Detail View in xcode

I'm pretty new to xcode so I'm having trouble performing this task. I've created a table with a search bar with names that are passed to a detail view with a UILabel that shows the corresponding name of the cell clicked. The search bar works and it filters the results. I used this tutorial to help me with it:
http://www.appcoda.com/how-to-add-search-bar-uitableview/
Now I want to have an image in the detail view instead of a UILabel, that corresponds to each of the cells but I'm having trouble figuring out how to do that. Here is the code I'm working with:
TableViewController.h:
#interface SearchViewController : UITableViewController <UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource>
#property (nonatomic, strong) IBOutlet UITableView *tableView;
TableViewController.m:
#interface SearchViewController ()
#end
#implementation SearchViewController {
NSArray *cards;
NSArray *searchResults;}
#synthesize tableView = _tableView;
-(void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
cards = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:
#"Snivy",
#"Servine",
#"Serperior",
#"Tepig",
#"Pignite",
#"Emboar",
#"Oshawott",
#"Dewott",
#"Samurott", nil];
}
- (void)filterContentForSearchText:(NSString*)searchText scope:(NSString*)scope
{
NSPredicate *resultPredicate = [NSPredicate
predicateWithFormat:#"SELF contains[cd] %#",
searchText];
searchResults = [cards filteredArrayUsingPredicate:resultPredicate];}
-(BOOL)searchDisplayController:(UISearchDisplayController *)controller
shouldReloadTableForSearchString:(NSString *)searchString
{
[self filterContentForSearchText:searchString
scope:[[self.searchDisplayController.searchBar scopeButtonTitles]
objectAtIndex:[self.searchDisplayController.searchBar
selectedScopeButtonIndex]]];
return YES;
}
- (void)viewDidUnload
{
[super viewDidUnload];
}
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation
{
return (interfaceOrientation != UIInterfaceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown);
}
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
if (tableView == self.searchDisplayController.searchResultsTableView) {
return [searchResults count];
} else {
return [cards count];
}
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *simpleTableIdentifier = #"SearchCardCell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:simpleTableIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:simpleTableIdentifier];
}
if (tableView == self.searchDisplayController.searchResultsTableView) {
cell.textLabel.text = [searchResults objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
} else {
cell.textLabel.text = [cards objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
}
return cell;}
- (void)prepareForSegue:(UIStoryboardSegue *)segue sender:(id)sender {
if ([segue.identifier isEqualToString:#"ShowSearchCard"]) {
SearchCardViewController *destViewController = segue.destinationViewController;
NSIndexPath *indexPath = nil;
if ([self.searchDisplayController isActive]) {
indexPath = [self.searchDisplayController.searchResultsTableView indexPathForSelectedRow];
destViewController.cardName = [searchResults objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
} else {
indexPath = [self.tableView indexPathForSelectedRow];
destViewController.cardName = [cards objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
}
}
}
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
if (tableView == self.searchDisplayController.searchResultsTableView) {
[self performSegueWithIdentifier: #"ShowSearchCard" sender: self];
}
}
UIViewController.h:
#property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UILabel *cardLabel;
#property (strong, nonatomic) NSString *cardName;
#property (strong, nonatomic) NSArray *searchCardDetail;
UIViewController.m:
#implementation SearchCardViewController
#synthesize cardLabel;
#synthesize cardName;
- (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil
{
self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil];
if (self) {
// Custom initialization
}
return self;
}
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
cardLabel.text = cardName;
// Do any additional setup after loading the view.
}
- (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning
{
[super didReceiveMemoryWarning];
// Dispose of any resources that can be recreated.
}
- (void)viewDidUnload {
[super viewDidUnload];
}
So in detail, the "cards" are the names in the table. Right now, it segue to a UILabel of the name of the card and I would like to have it instead, segue to the corresponding image of the card in the regular table and filtered table when searched. I appreciate your time and help! Thanks!
I'm not sure if I understanded your question correctly, but I would use one of these three approaches:
1st:
Easiest way is to follow this tutorial
2nd: Create custom cell which you will use instead of default cell. To get you on track, you can check this good tutorial How to create custom cell. In your custom cell, you'll declare additional variable, UIImage, which will or won't be displayed in your table view. Point is, you can send it in prepareForSegue method to your detailViewController.
3rd: Create NSDictionary where you will have values (images of your items) for keys (name of item). Then, pass it in prepareForSegue to your NSDictionary in detailViewController. After that, just assign your UIImage to UIImageView in your detailViewController based on what name of item did you receive. (So you'll still be sending name and then detailImage = [yourdict objectForKey:myItemName];)
I'm writing this on my windows laptop, because I'm not at work right now (that's where I have my mac mini), so there may be some syntax errors in my answer :)

Page View Controller - from images to another view controller

I'm a bit perplexed about what I'm trying to accomplish. I have a page view controller that has a data source containing an array list of images. It's actually a tutorial that a user can flip through. What I'm trying to do is make the last page a log in screen so the user can enter info and hit a login button. I thought this would be as simple as adding a login view controller to the array but oooh how wrong I was D: When I tried that I got this error:
* Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[UIViewController _isResizable]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xa160660'
I do apologise for being such a noob I'm new to all of this just trying to get my head around it. Here's my code (accomplished by using this site actually):
My data source (ModelController.h)
#import <Foundation/Foundation.h>
#class DataViewController;
#interface ModelController : NSObject <UIPageViewControllerDataSource>
- (DataViewController *)viewControllerAtIndex:(NSUInteger)index storyboard:(UIStoryboard *)storyboard;
- (NSUInteger)indexOfViewController:(DataViewController *)viewController;`
#end
ModelController.m
#import "ModelController.h"
#import "DataViewController.h"
#import "LoginViewController.h"
#interface ModelController()
#property (readonly, strong, nonatomic) NSArray *pageData;
#end
#implementation ModelController
- (id)init
{
self = [super init];
if (self)
{
// Create the data model
_pageData = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:
[UIImage imageNamed:#"tutorial1.png"],
[UIImage imageNamed:#"tutorial2.png"],
[UIImage imageNamed:#"lastWishes.png"],
[UIImage imageNamed:#"todo.png"],
[UIImage imageNamed:#"web.png"],

}

}

}
// Create a new view controller and pass suitable data.

dataViewController.dataObject = self.pageData[index];
return dataViewController;
}
- (NSUInteger)indexOfViewController:(DataViewController *)viewController
{
// Return the index of the given data view controller.
// For simplicity, this implementation uses a static array of model objects and the view controller stores the model object; you can therefore use the model object to identify the index.
return [self.pageData indexOfObject:viewController.dataObject];
}

}
return _modelController;
}

{

UIViewController *currentViewController = self.pageViewController.viewControllers[0];
NSArray *viewControllers = #[currentViewController];
[self.pageViewController setViewControllers:viewControllers direction:UIPageViewControllerNavigationDirectionForward animated:YES completion:NULL];
self.pageViewController.doubleSided = NO;
return UIPageViewControllerSpineLocationMin;
}
#end
The Child (DataViewController.h)
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#interface DataViewController : UIViewController
#property (strong, nonatomic) id dataObject;
#property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIImageView *imageView;
#end
DataViewController.m
#import "DataViewController.h"
#interface DataViewController ()
#end
#implementation DataViewController
- (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil
{
self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil];
if (self) {

return self;
}
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
// Do any additional setup after loading the view.
}
- (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning

[super didReceiveMemoryWarning];
// Dispose of any resources that can be recreated.
}
- (void) viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated
{
[super viewWillAppear:animated];
self.imageView.image = _dataObject;
}
#end
Once again, the code in question is here where I'm trying to add a view controller to the data source as the last page:
_pageData = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:
[UIImage imageNamed:#"tutorial1.png"],
[UIImage imageNamed:#"tutorial2.png"],
[UIImage imageNamed:#"lastWishes.png"],
[UIImage imageNamed:#"todo.png"],
[UIImage imageNamed:#"web.png"],
(LoginViewController*)[[UIViewController alloc] init],
nil];
and getting unrecognized selector error when at runtime. I've also tried this as well:
- (id)init
{
self = [super init];
if (self)
{
LoginViewController *viewController = [self.storyboard instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:#"LoginViewController"];
// Create the data model
_pageData = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:
[UIImage imageNamed:#"tutorial1.png"],
[UIImage imageNamed:#"tutorial2.png"],
[UIImage imageNamed:#"lastWishes.png"],
[UIImage imageNamed:#"todo.png"],
[UIImage imageNamed:#"web.png"],
viewController,
nil];
}
return self;
}
Any suggestions would be great. THanks!!
Your idea is 100% correct, your implementation is not.
This line:
dataViewController.dataObject = self.pageData[index];
is very suspicious because that will return a UIViewController in the case of your login screen. I would suggest you type-check your page data, if it is already a UIViewController subclass, just return it, if it is (in your case) a UIImage add it as the data object.

i have created a xib file in Xcode 4.2 and i am looking at getting it to the tabbed application but i have been trying and I'm a little bit new to Xcode , coding so thats why i need your help i have my code below but there are a few little errors but what i would like you lot to help me with is maybe getting to a tabbed application... well telling me what to do anyhow. heres a video for you to have a look at in case i haven't explained it correct (this is my video i did just for this question http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7R5_kGClM0 hope the video help but more importantly you can help me.
There is the .h but the is no errors in this

[tableData addObject:[pickerData objectAtIndex:row]];
[pickerData removeObjectAtIndex:row];
[tableView reloadData];
[pickerView reloadAllComponents];
}
#end
Here Are The Errors In The Code There are Two
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
**Local declaration of 'tableView hides instance variable**
Second error
[pickerView reloadAllComponents];
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Local declaration of 'pickerView hides instance variable
Thanks Very Much I Hope To Here From You Soon !!!
Use this, "tableView hides instance variable" occurs if local variable and instance variable have the same name.
- (UITableViewCell*)tableView:(UITableView*)tableView1 cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
static NSString *cellIdentifier = #"cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView1 dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [ [UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
}
cell.textLabel.text = [tableData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
return cell;
}
and for pickerView use this
[self.pickerView reloadAllComponents];
