I have installed xcode 4.3.1 on my machine running Lion.
I can't find the Network Link Conditioner tool anywhere.
I have checked the utilities folder, also the xcode/contents/developer/* directories.. no such luck.
Do I need to install specific components or has this tool been removed or renamed recently?
It's in an additional download. Use this menu item:
Xcode > Open Developer Tool > More Developer Tools...
and get "Hardware IO Tools for Xcode".
For Xcode 8+, get "Additional Tools for Xcode [version]".
Double-click on a .prefPane file to install. If you already have an older .prefPane installed, you'll need to remove it from /Library/PreferencePanes.
You can also install any of the Hardware IO Tools without installing XCode itself. Simply visit Apple's Download Center and search for "Hardware IO".
Update on the answer December 2019 Xcode 11.1.2
Apple has moved Network Link Conditioner Tool to additional tools for
Xcode
Go to the below link
https://developer.apple.com/download/more/?q=Additional%20Tools
Install the dmg file, select hardware from installer
select Network Link conditioner prefpane
The tools can now be found ("Hardware IO tools") here: https://developer.apple.com/download/more/
For Xcode 8 you gotta download a package named Additional Tools for Xcode 8
For other versions (8.1, 8.2) get the package here
Double click and open the dmg and go to Hardware directory. Double click on Network Link Conditioner.prefPane.
Click on install
Now Network Link Conditioner will be available in System Preferences.
For versions older than Xcode 8, the package to be downloaded is called Hardware IO Tools for Xcode. Get it from this page
Remove "Network Link Conditioner", open "System Preferences", press CTRL and click the "Network Link Conditioner" icon. Select "Remove".
Restart your computer
Download the dmg "Hardware IO tools" for your XCode version from https://developer.apple.com/download/, you need to be logged in to do this.
Open it and install "Network Link Conditioner"
Restart your computer one last time.
Now accessible directly inside Xcode 14, no need to add any tools for that.

I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to 10.13, and installed Xcode 9
Xcode is working, but I don't seem to have the latest Libraries.
Previously this was a manual process which took some time. Searching I found
https://developer.apple.com/library/content/releasenotes/DeveloperTools/RN-Xcode/Chapters/Introduction.html
This states "You obtain Xcode 9 from the Mac App Store. It is a free download that installs directly into the Applications folder. By default, Xcode downloads developer documentation in the background for offline reading; it also automatically downloads documentation updates. This behavior can be changed after installation using the Downloads preferences pane."
As far as I can see this is not happening, and I can't find any "Downloads preferences pane"
when I update android development tools 23 but have some errors like this: Update Eclipse with Android development tools v. 23
and my ADT 23.0 was downloaded through browser on official site.
so I uninstall the pulgins manually but accidently uninstall the android developer tools, now I can't start my ADT Bundle again :( , anyone have some ideal to help me?
I would recommend to just install the ADT installation part freshly.
Remove ADT first:
Open Install new software under help
Click Available Software Sites
Click the Android location
Click Remove
Install ADT freshly:
Open Install new software under help
Click Add
Name: type android
Location: copy this: https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
Click OK
Click the box near Developer Tools
Click Next
Click Next Again
Accept the agreement and click Next
This will install the ADT again!!!
Hope this helps!!
I installed the latest version of Hardware IO Tools for Xcode (Oct 2013) on OS X 10.8.5. I installed the "Network Link Conditioner preference pane". I get the following error every time I try to run this toolCould not load Network Link Conditioner preference pane`
I tried to re-install the package but got the same error. Who knows how to fix the problem?
My Solution:
I've installed OS X Mavericks and that fixed the problem.
As said, use Hardware IO Tool for Xcode - Late July 2012.
Installation steps to be sure that it works:
Remove any currently installed Network Link Conditioner preference panes (right-click it in the System Preferences window for the option to delete).
Verify that there is no file called Network Link Conditioner.prefPane in either /Library/PreferencePanes/ or ~/Library/PreferencePanes/; if they're there, remove them by hand.
Empty your trash
Restart your Mac
Then, re-install from the old version mentioned above (from late July 2012).
Having to empty your trash and restart your Mac gives the whole process a nice touch of nostalgia for ex-Windows users, but it really made the difference for me.
I had same issue. I downloaded the Hardware IO Tool for Xcode - Late July 2012. It installed without any problem on OS X 10.8.5.
I've installed OS X Mavericks and that fixed the problem
try to download an older version of Additional Tools for Xcode
for example:
Xcode 13 -> download Additional Tools for Xcode 12.5
this work for me
I have to use Xcode occasionally, and have now come across a problem where I've upgraded to Xcode 4.6, but another piece of software I'm using doesn't support it, so I need to go back to Xcode 4.5.
I'm not used to the way Macs work in general, so if the answers provided could be written with that in mind, that'd be helpful. :)
I'm assuming you are having at least OSX 10.7, so go ahead into the applications folder (Click on Finder icon > On the Sidebar, you'll find "Applications", click on it ), delete the "Xcode" icon. That will remove Xcode from your system completely. Restart your mac.
Now go to Xcode Releases page or Apple Developer More Downloads and download an older
version of Xcode, as needed and install. You need an Apple ID to login to that portal.
After install, you can also switch between multiple versions:
Xcode > Preferences > Locations > Command Line Tools
When you log in to your developer account, you can find a link at the bottom of the download section for Xcode that says "Looking for an older version of Xcode?". In there you can find download links to older versions of Xcode and other developer tools
I just installed Xcode 4.3 from the App Store. As I started it first, it asked if I want to delete existing 4.2.
Does 4.3 include Quartz Composer? Where is it located? Or should I say no and keep 4.2 for QC?
No.
But you can download Quartz Composer separately: http://developer.apple.com/ > login with valid developer Id > Mac > View all downloads > Graphics Tools for Xcode.
Slightly faster instructions:
Visit https://developer.apple.com/downloads/index.action?name=Graphics
Log in
Download the "Graphics Tools for Xcode" DMG
This has changed. Open XCode. In the top menu go to XCode > Open Developer Tools > More Developer Tools > and then download the "Graphics Tools for Xcode"
I don't know if it does or not, but you can always install 4.3 alongside 4.2. Just choose to install it in a different directory (I usually name my extra installations using the version of Xcode, like "Developer 4.3"). So you can go ahead with the installation and check for Quartz Composer. If you decide to use Xcode 4.3, just remove your existing "Developer" folder and rename your "Developer 4.3" folder to "Developer".
Quartz Composer is part of Graphics Tools, which you can easily download from Apple Developer website :) Some tools are now available as separate downloads since Xcode 4.
Please note that Quartz frameworks and Quarts Composer View are already available on Xcode 4, so you can embed Quartz compositions without a problem into Xcode app. If you want create Quartz compositions, just download the latest Graphics Tools pack from Apple Dev Download site.
