When I try to change the tile notification I got this message and then I deleted what I wrote but still have the same message ? Is there anyone take this error message before ? Thanks
Error 1 Xap packaging failed. The item metadata "%(FullPath)" cannot be applied to the path "res://StartMenu!AppIconGeneric.png". The given path's format is not supported.
I got exactly same error message and updating the icon / tile files to something that truly exists on the disk did not immediately help.
Closing and restarting Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone fixed it.
This error occurs when your project contains a resource that is not existant on your disk, eg. when it was deleted in windows explorer.

So I'm trying to use the direct app install feature of Windows 10 Creators Update to allow downloading a packaged modern app from the web. The key feature of it is that it will auto update your app by checking back to the same URL of the .appinstaller file.
https://new-file-explorer.firebaseapp.com/ (the page is entirely generated by Visual Studio, no modifications from me)
The problem is that when I click it I just get "Error in parsing the app package."
If I manually download the .msixbundle that's referenced in the .appinstaller file it will work! Yet App Installer itself can't "parse" this package?
Here's the weirdest part: if I use "Add-AppxPackage -Appinstaller" from Powershell and point it towards the .appinstaller URL it will completely work!
The other answers on here do not apply, since they were all related to running it on a local server (I tried it anyways).
I thought this was related to MIME types, but I have set the MIME types as stated in the documentation and yet it still doesn't work. I've verified that by using this URL MIME type checker. I'm at a loss to what is actually causing this.
Here is the .appinstaller file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<AppInstaller Uri="https://new-file-explorer.firebaseapp.com/InstallNFE.appinstaller" Version="1.0.9.0" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/appx/appinstaller/2017/2">
<MainBundle Name="NewFileExplorer" Version="1.0.9.0" Publisher="CN=david" Uri="https://new-file-explorer.firebaseapp.com/InstallNFE_1.0.9.0_Test/InstallNFE_1.0.9.0_x86_x64.msixbundle" />
<UpdateSettings>
<OnLaunch HoursBetweenUpdateChecks="0" />
</UpdateSettings>
</AppInstaller>
Here's a link to the .msixbundle it appears to be incapable of parsing (as you can see, it works manually downloading it!)
Thought of putting the solution in case someone else is facing the issue. I also faced the same issue and was able to resolve myself. When opening the Windows 10 .appinstaller file from web, the error "Error in parsing the app package." occurs.
For me the cause was that the links provided in the HTML page index.html generated by Visual Studio was referring to some share location (as my installer location was a file share location) and the installer file was not there. The reason for this is that I didn't do the last step "Copy and Close" of publishing from VS (this step copies the installer from output location to installer location that you provided). Instead of "Copy and Close", I just clicked on another option "Close" and hence the issue.
Just an additional input as i also encountered this issue and spent a whole day of finding the fix.
Let me just copy a line from .appinstaller file of the original poster.
<MainBundle Name="NewFileExplorer" Version="1.0.9.0" Publisher="CN=david" Uri="https://new-file-explorer.firebaseapp.com/InstallNFE_1.0.9.0_Test/InstallNFE_1.0.9.0_x86_x64.msixbundle" />
In this line, it only specify as ".msixbundle" file but the actual file in local folder is ".msixbundle.zip".
After I removed ".zip" from the filename of the file, the issue is gone.
I currently have a windows phone 8.1 application in the store and have decided to upgrade it to windows 10 UWP. I've created a new version of the app from scratch using VS 2015 3 RC and used the options in the project menu to associate the app with one already on my account.
When I do this the appxmanifest file is updated with the wrong PublisherDisplayName - instead of my name it's coming up with Microsoft account. If I build the package with this name it all completes without error however if I change to to what is on my developer account then I get the following error
The PublisherDisplayName element of the Properties element in the app manifest must have the value of the Publisher display name value from your developer account: Microsoft account
I've tried logging out/in on my developer account, repairing VS, reinstalling VS etc. confirmed my developer account has the correct name but still the problem occurs.
Any suggestions right now would be most welcome!
I was having the same issue, I believe it's because the Package.StoreAssociation.xml doesn't download/build correctly, and then if you change your publisher name in the Package.appmanifest then the two don't align.
To fix this, make sure that the
<PublisherDisplayName></PublisherDisplayName>
element in the Package.StoreAssociation.xml file (usually found in the root of your project) is set to the same as the
Dev centre -> Account Settings -> Public info -> Publisher display name
which is also set to the same as your "publisher display name" in your
package.appmanifest -> Packaging tab.
This should resolve your problem.
I've been working on an UWP app with a Telerik RadDataGrid component on it. It builds fine in debug and release mode. However, when building the windows store app package the process fails with the following reason:
ErrorFor file "C:\Projects\CompanyAppClient10\obj\x64\Debug\PackageLayout\Telerik.UI.Xaml.Grid.UWP\Assets\FilterFlyout\ic_arrow_down_white.scale-140.png" -
0x80070003 - The system cannot find the path specified.CompanyAppClient10 C:\Projects\CompanyAppClient10\MakeAppx
What could be the cause of this?
I've already tried creating a new clean UWP application with only a RadDataGrid component on MainPage.xaml. This results in the same error as above.
I've also repaired my Telerik UWP installation. Makes no difference.
Installing the newer update fixes it.
Alternatively you can use the following workaround -- copy the entire folder
C:\Program Files (x86)\Telerik\UI for Universal Windows Platform Q2 2016\Binaries\Telerik.UI.Xaml.Grid.UWP\Assets\FilterFlyout
into
C:\Program Files (x86)\Telerik\UI for Universal Windows Platform Q2 2016\SDKs\Telerik UI for Universal Windows Platform\Redist\CommonConfiguration\neutral\Telerik.UI.Xaml.Grid.UWP\Assets
Based on the error message my guess is that your app requires scale 140 assets but Telerik doesn’t provide them. You many want to contact Telerik directly and file a bug report.
I just configured my Visual studio 2010 with IIS express 8.0. It works perfectly but in case of any error in my code it is showing me crash page in encrypted format (Meaning - It shows full of boxes and some special characters). So every time i need to go event viewer to check the issue. Can you please help me in this?
This is how the message looks:

I just resolved the issue. Initially my application was working in integrated mode. I tried it with classic app pool and it started showing the real error message :-)
I get following message when I try to add "Periodic Task" to "ScheduledActionService" in Windows Phone 8 Application.
"The drive cannot locate a specific area or track on the disk."
I am really not sure if this is related to Visual Studio 2012 that I am using or related to Periodic Tasks on Windows Phone 8.
The same piece of code works fine in Windows Phone 7.
I found the solution here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/wpdevelop/thread/a973955e-0981-4be8-8ac0-8dfcb9dc2917/
You need to manually update your WPAppManifest.xml file and configure the background task there.
Appears to be normal behavior, not related to emulator or debugging.
There is a excellent explanation as to what is required by microsoft for background task in the msdn tutorial videos.
It references your problem at around 24:30 with editing the WPAppManifest.xml file.
He explains step by step what needs to be done and why.
http://channel9.msdn.com/Series/Windows-Phone-8-Development-for-Absolute-Beginners/Part-34-Creating-a-Background-Agent-for-Scheduled-Tasks
Also I got a null reference exception after fixing the WPAppManifest.xml when called from the the main project, turns out the main project also has to reference the scheduler project (even if not using anything in it).
You have to add the ScheduledTaskAgent as a Reference to the main project.
I found this in the WPDT Notes
Runtime exception occurs when an application attempts to use a launcher/chooser in Microsoft.Phone.Tasks to call an application that is not present in the Emulator home screen. The following error string is displayed, “The drive cannot locate a specific area or track on the disk.” Workaround: Do not use the launcher/chooser or catch this exception.
