How can I make the columns at joomla frontpage to work? - joomla

I am currently developing a website in joomla, all tho I have learned a lot there is this thing I wanted a help:
I wanted to know how can i make the columns to work at joomla frontpage, if I go to Main Menu-> Home-> Parameters (Basic) and set intro to '6' and columns to 2, I don't get results from the articles, they are still in the same way as before, not even if I post another articles it works, how can I make it work?
Thanks.

I have solved my problem by studying the template and re-creating a joomla frontpage, after that i could set the columns by geting CSS height and width in dpi and editing then on the module properties

best way to handle complex page layout in joomla

I have to convert a static site for a client and it has to retain the exisiting layout.
Fortunately, most of the pages don't have to be editable, so for those I was going to use more or less the existing html.
The challenge I am having is that for many of the pages that do need to be editable, the content is laid out in columns (2, 3 and sometimes mixed)
This ( http://globalstrategies.org/index.php/give/hope-partners ) is an example of a page like that, and you can see others on the site where the layout is relatively complex.
I had thought of creating a jce stylesheet that would at least layout the page in the editor in a reasonable way (a bit like a responsive site, by having the columns stacked one after the other) , but I am concerned that my client may accidentally delete the surrounding classes/divs that create the more detailed structure.
I'm pretty familiar with Joomla and have built quite a few sites, but I've not used an cck tools and was hoping not to have to do that in this case, though maybe now is the time to learn.
Any advice / recommendations would be welcome !
Richard
Maybe ContentBuilder could do in your case, it's fairly easy and creates super-simple code, I've accomplished similar tasks with it. You provide the user with 3 fields (one per column) and create a layout for its display.
Another alternative is possibly even easier: you could override the use of the page functions in a template override of com_content/article, instruct the user to insert at most 2 page breaks, and use the page breaks to build the layout as you require.
If your sites is upgraded to the Joomla 3 you can use the build-in Bootsrap to do the layout.
You can find some more information how you can achieve this in the following page:

How to display the “Menu Title” in Joomla 2.5

I’m trying to display the menu title text (example “Home”) in the header area of my Joomla 2.5 website.
Joomla’s default (when activated) is to place it in the Component area.
I’m not sure the best way to accomplish this. By default Joomla wraps the menu title with an H1 tag but doesn’t wrap it with a div and class.
The ways I’ve thought might be best to do this are:
Somehow wrap all menu titles with a div and class so I could reposition them up into the header with css .
Add some php code to my template. Something like:
php
$menuTitle = $this->params->get(‘fieldNameOfMenuTitle’);
php
echo = $menuTitle;
Any ideas, suggestions, or answers would greatly appreciated
Thanks
Never found an exact answer but found a work around.
Used a modified version of the below demo/plug-in to create a custom field (named it: "Title that displays on the Web Page") in the articles menu. By default, the table that is created and displayed in the web page is in the component area and is wrapped in a w/ a class. Repositioned the with CSS up into the header/banner area.

jcarousel not working in Google Chrome

I am having a problem with the jcarousel in my Magento webshop. I bought a templete for my webshop so that I did not have to do any programming myself since I don't have any knowledge about programming.
On the bottom of the product pages of my webshop a jcarousel is shown in which related products are shown. This function works well in every browser except Google Chrome. Here none of the products in the carousel can be seen.
Someone on an other forum told me it had to do with the width of the carousel. That this particular line was causing the trouble:
Since I have no knowledge whatsoever on programming, I don't know how to adjust the width. Can any of you tell me if this is indeed the problem and how I can solve it?
To give you an idea what it is all about, here's an url of a page on which it doesn't work:
http://supplementendeal.nl/index.php/creatine/scitec-crea-bomb.html
Well the problem is that a width of 179769313486231600000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000px
is being inserted into the li tag of the unordered list. Without the actual javascript its hard to say how to fix this.

Drupal 7 - Views, loaded by Ajax

Two years ago I made a website to learn Flash, but these days Flash is loosing it's popularity. (the website never went online, was just for testing) Now I want to try making this test website with Drupal + Ajax...
Take a look at the Flash website
I have a collection of handbags, with different types and sizes. So I use taxonomy for that. (content type: handbag, with taxonomy terms "type" and "size" - small, medium and large)
The visitor should choose a type in the navigation. (Silver Medallion or Silver Jewel) Then he sees a page (made with views) that shows all available sizes. (The type 'Jewel' doesn't have sizes, so this type should show all bags.)
After the visitor clicks a size, he sees all available items of that type and size. With views, this is quite simple... But now I want to do this with Ajax, so the page doesn't have to reload... I also want the path to change, so people can add a page to the favortites.
I found an answer that helped me a bit further, but I have no idea where to put the code...
Code that helped me out... a bit
I think you need to create a custom module to create the view and add the configuration in setting file, then create a js file and add to drupal project.
Take a look at this. It seems to provide what you want: http://drupal.org/project/quicktabs/

Joomla: display of articles using RAXO All-mode PRO and JXtended labels

I'm currently working on a site that uses the 'RAXO All-mode PRO' module to display a list of articles on the home page, and the 'JXtended labels' component to display pages containing a list of articles associated with given labels. The front-end functionality in both is very similar - get a list of articles and display them.
Ideally, I'd like both lists to display articles in the same format. However, since each component/module has its own way of fetching the data, and its own template, they're currently inconsistent. What's the best way of going about resolving this?
I can envisage a common bit of code (a module? plugin? component?) that deals with the display of a list of articles, and has its own template for that purpose. I guess I'd then need to hack the existing module and component to hand over to this common piece. There's also the question of getting the same set of data - e.g. RAXO All-mode PRO currently gets an article's category; JXtended labels doesn't.
Has anyone come across this issue before?
The issue of the modules pulling different data sets can only be remedied by hacking the core to get the data that is missing.
Everything else can be accomplished by a simple override. You can modify the module template files then save the new version in JOOMLA/templates/YOUR TEMPLATE/html/MODULE NAME/default.php. You can make the override files match pretty much exactly so the display will be consistent across both modules.
