our server has opensuse 12.1, whenever I try to access through VNC viewer the GUI of opensuse is appearing raw. I guess its the problem with X11 or X-windows. how do I fix this to get a better GUI for all the views?
And also when we create a new user we need to modify the xstartup file to append startkde & to have a GUI. Is there a way that I can modify it at one place and xstartup is modified for all the new users created?
Thank you
Can you explain more clearly what "raw GUI" means? is it the resolution, no kde effects?
As to second part of your question - basically u don't need to start X session to create / set user accounts see the link link - get familiar with user* commands - it really speeds up the work. Cheers!

I am trying to change the text on the my computer icon when I create a new server, it currently says "My Server" but I need to change that to the host name. I have a script that works for me on initial run but I want to know if there is a way to change that for the local machine instead of the current user.
when I go into regedit I go here.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID{04271989-C4D2-51FA-6558-1FD935F1416C}
I can change the default here and I get the desired results but it is only for me and not all the other users. I just need it to be for anyone who logs into this device. I also need to change the background to black for everyone but I am still working on that. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I ran two commands in Terminal to (a) turn off screengrab shadows, and (b) to change the default save location for screengrabs.
The shadows are now gone and the screengrabs save where I want them to. However, when I invoke command-shift-3 to create a screengrab of the entire desktop, I get two files, one containing what I want as well as a screengrab of the 'background', that is the desktop (with any open finder windows).
Could anyone suggest a fix? Thanks in advance.
Sorry! Please disregard this question… I feel embarrassed to admit that it had something to do with … er… my dual monitor setup.
So I have 150+ users who are using a mac mini, El Capitan.
I use deploy studio to make an image so I can clean out the junk every so often, on this image I have settings and such that I can regulate, I am not sure how to make it so the first time someone logs in, the windows are not mirrored, (everyone is using dual monitors). Is this possible?
I can make an Apple script to do it just fine, but that isn't acceptable in this case.
Question : How do I set the preference/setting of "mirror windows" to be automatically or always unchecked?
maybe this link could help your problem : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2750766?tstart=0
The setting for whether a display is mirrored or not is controlled per display using the key "Mirrored" in this file:
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist
However, that file contains a list of displays, each potentially with a unique identifier. You might be able to lay down the same file on multiple machines provided they all have the same monitor model, but I don't know for sure.
Hi we have been using PGRFileManager for a while with ckeditor but it has just come to light that when using a mac users can't upload files, does anyone know what could be the cause?
Users can get the file browser to appear and select a file but when they click the green arrow to upload the file just disappears.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this or how to fix it.
I was thinking about giving something like the kc finder a go but as users are used to the pgr file manager thought that I should give it a bash to fix it.
I've read around and I'm using a session var to set the location which has worked well.
And it's an absolute location so that's fine. (One of the solutions was to make sure that this was the case)
Has anyone got any further ideas?
Thanks
Richard
I find the Wolfram Workbench a nice environment for Mathematica development.
However, as I program in Mathematica, I need to navigate the Help System very often.
The Workbench provides a tooltip tool that shows a very basic help for the Mma functions (just the usage messages), and is not enough for my usual needs.
So: Is there a way to bring up and navigate the whole Mma Help System from inside the Workbench?
Alternative solutions are also welcome. Re-entering the function name in a notebook and pressing F1 is not :)
Found an answer here
By highlighting the function and pressing Ctrl+Shift+/ a Web Browser pops up and shows the appropriate Wolfram's help page on the Internet.
The question is still alive, as it should be better to show up the local Help System.
I've just been re-installing Workbench 2.0 on Mint Mfce 17.1 and have run into this problem.
Do you have a browser set for viewing help?
Wolfram Workbench, menu:Windows|Preferences, tree:General|Web Browser
I've got mine set to the output of "which firefox". Sadly, I cannot get this mechanism to honor -new-window as an option (nor -no-remote), so the contents from 127.0.0.1 always show up in some other already open Firefox window. Meh. Note that you need not list the %URL% as a parameter (unless one of the parameters you give also requires it); it will be appended to whatever you supply.
