I am trying to install Xamarin's Mono for Android, Initially it said that for this I will need JDK, Android SDK, Mono Develop and then the most important package that will be downloaded and installed ie, The Mono for Android for Visual Studio and Mono Develop...
So I tried a manual install :
I had JDK.
I downloaded Monodevelop and its pre-requisites..
I downloaded thew Android SDK revision 20 for Windows7, and then for installing the Android AVD and SDK completely I installed SDK Platform tools, Google USB Driver, System Image(only for API 14) and SDK Platform 14..
Now I tried Xamarin and it says That Android SDK is not installed and will be downloaded and installed..So I looked at the logs and downloaded the SDK Platforms 7,8,10,12
Now can u plzz tell that after installing all the below sdk platforms manually??
android-7 ("Android SDK Platform 2.1_r3")
android-8 ("Android SDK Platform 2.2_r3")
android-10 ("Android SDK Platform 2.3.3._r2")
android-12 ("Android SDK Platform 3.1, revision 3")
android-14 ("Android SDK Platform 4.0")
I just want Xamarin to detect that I have Android SDK installed.
Will I have to install the system images of these versions for Xamarin to detect Android SDK?? I only have the system image of API 14.

There are many bug reports already on Xamarin's tracker regarding the installers, such as
https://bugzilla.xamarin.com/show_bug.cgi?id=859
So you should report new ones if you cannot find an existing item that matches the problem you met.

As a general rule of thumb, I've had much better luck relying on Xamarin's automatic install process. They've been pretty thorough about detecting (and automatically downloading) all the needed components. Did you have a chance to review their documentation - here?

If you want to use Xamarin's Mono for Android in Visual Studio and want to Visual Studio detect your android sdk, go to
Visual Studio -> Tools -> Xamarin -> Android Settings
and set Android SDk Location

Android SDK location in OSX - Has it been actually installed by Unity Hub?

We are using Unity 2018.3.8f1.
We have added Android Build Support from Unity Hub - Add Component:
But if we go to Unity Preferences - External Tools, the Android SDK location is empty:
I have not been able to find the location of the Android SDK folder anywhere. I'm wondering if the component installed by Unity Hub is something different to Android SDK. Maybe it must be installed separately from: https://developer.android.com/studio?pkg=tools#downloads?
UPDATE
So far I have installed "Command line tools only" from the previous link. Then, I have installed OpenSDK (Vistual Studio did it for me: it asked me to update and install it as one of the things to update).
But when I opened tools/bin/sdkmanager, it said "Java is not installed". So I also installed Oracle Java SDK. Unfortunately tools/bin/sdkmanager returned errors after it. I applied a few workarounds I found by googling the errors. Still not luck.
So I have moved to the easy way: installing the full version of Android Studio. If we choose custom, we'll see that Android SDK Platform is going to be installed:
So it is working, but I still have not idea of how many things I have duplicated on my system wasting space. I have:
The Android component installed from Unity Hub
Android Studio installed, which comes with the emulator and the IDE (I don't need them)
OpenSDK (installed by Visual Studio)
An embedded version of Java in Unity
Oracle Java
Are they all actually needed? I don't think so!
It seems the only thing you are wondering is if the component installed by Unity hub is something different to Android SDK... the short answer is yes. You have to download it on the Android Developer SDK website you linked in the question. You only need the SDK under "Command line tools only" at the bottom of the page. If you do this you also need to download the jdk separatly here.

Android Studio for Project Tango

I have downloaded latest Android Studio 2.2.3 and I want to start with C examples for project Tango phone (Lenovo Phab 2 Pro) using C API. The phone itself says it's run Android 6.0.1, kernel 3.10.84 on device.
Google developer documentation for Tango Project suggest to install Android Studio with Android SDK 24.4.1, Platform tools 23.1 and NDK 11.0.0.
By installing latest Android Studio there is no offering to install those versions of tools. Is it possible to use whatever SDK for development (latest)?
Where do I find aforementioned versions?
What Android SDK & NDK version is required for phone which run Android 6.0.1?
I started using the Dev Kit which runs Android 4.4 KitKat and I just recently got the Phab 2 Pro this week and I didn't need to make any updates to my Android Studio SDK manager.
Since I am working only with the Tango and not with the underlying Android features, I have found no need to require 6.0 for I am not using any of the extra features.
Also go here and clone the repo and run the hello-world and see if you can get it to work on your phone, if so you are good to go!
the SDK Manager which is part of Android Studio offers you choices on levels of android builds like 4.4.2/5.1/6.0/6.1, etc. Platform tools package is a module within the SDK Manager which also has levels which are based on the android build. The NDK is a completely different package and depending on what you want to accomplish you might be able to not worry about it to start of with. install Android Studio and then setup the SDK Manager to cover what devices you want to build for. get the latest Platform tools package setup and you will be ready to code. once you start setting up your environment things will fall in place. for the most part the installer does the work. pay attention to the things needed prior to installing Android Studio. i think you need to install a jdk and set paths and variables.

Monodevelop + Linux and Android Xamarin developement

Is it possible to develop a portable Xamarin mobile (Android) application with MonoDevelop on Linux?
I'm using Linux Mint, I have installed MonoDevelop with the guides MonoDevelop linux and MonoDevelop Ubuntu-Debian.
After installing, I have expected, when creating a project, to find out a project type similar to "Xamarin Android Application" or something.
The only project type mentioning cross-platform + Xamarin is this:
The guides on Xamarin site only applies to Xamarin Studio. I am lost, is there something broken in my installation or it is simply impossible to use MonoDevelop to develop Xamarin for mobile Android applications (and I totally misunderstood)?
In case, can you point me to a guide or resource about developing Xamarin portable mobile apps with MonoDevelop?
PS: There is one Stack Overflow question with last comment of year 2012, and, since then, lot things have changed: Xamarin merge with NET.foundation, the open source release of Xamarin SDK.
Clearly I have misunderstood about Linux support availability. I have thought the question should be re-formulated. I hope this match the policies.
Not yet, Xamarin Android will be available in Linux , but ETA is still unclear.

Do I need Oracle Java to develop/run Xamarin Apps?

Does the Xamarin development environment need anything from Oracle's Java, either JRE or SDKs? It seems that whatever it needs in terms of Java, it gets it from the Android SDKs which are already part of the Xamarin downloads.
The reason I'm asking is because I want to remove the Oracle Java VM from my machine, since I don't run any Java apps.
TIA.
Yes, you need Java JDK v1.6. This should be installed by the Xamarin Installer automatically.
And as you mentioned, you'll update the Android SDKs and tools using the Android SDK Manager. I would check regularly for updates to these SDKs because Xamarin doesn't install them.

Does anyone know when WatchKit will be available for download for iOS developers?
Will Xcode 6 include an emulator to allow for a Apple Watch app to be created/tested on a Mac?
The Apple Watch is expected to be released in Q1 2015.
A small handful of high-profile social network and services companies with apps on the iPhone and iPad App Store have already been seeded with a pre-release version of the Apple SDK (Software Development Kit) for wearables under strict non-disclosure agreements. One of the developers with access to the pre-release SDK is Facebook, according to a source.
Facebook is also said to be finishing up work on an iOS 8-optimized version of its iPhone app with improved notifications. The social network is also experimenting with ways it can leverage the new Notification Center Extension APIs.
Currently there is no SDK or simulator available for that device.
Update: 11/18/14 - WatchKit is officially available on apple's website. You must download the latest version of Xcode from the developer center.
WatchKit allows developers to build Apple Watch apps. According to apple, Apple Watch apps using the current WatchKit (released in November) must tied with an iPhone app (you create a new target in your Xcode project). However, Apple has said that later in 2015 it will support independent Apple Watch Apps.
WatchKit will be available in November of 2014 for download. There's still no word on when Apple will launch the Apple Watch besides "Early 2015"
The Apple Watch is expected to be released in Q1 2015. Currently there is no SDK or simulator available for that device.
WatchKit and related development resources are available to download via https://developer.apple.com/watchkit
Apple will release WatchKit in November 2014. The watch will be released in Q1 2015.
Xcode 6.0 does not support development for Apple Watch.
Xcode 6.2 supports development using WatchKit. Check out the WatchKit Programming Guide which includes some examples and note issues reported in the Xcode 6.2 Beta Release Notes. Furthermore, be aware that most of the simulator issues mentioned in the Xcode 6.1 Release Notes still apply but were unfortunately omitted from the 6.2 notes.
Xcode 7.0 added support for development of native apps for Apple Watch.
