Hey anytime I start up visual studio i get an error popping up in relation to the title of this post.
The error message says enter a path to ADONETEntityFrameworkTools_enu.msi. In the use source box it says
c:\users\conor\appdata\local\temp\rar$exa0.270\wcu\eftools\
but there is no folder when trying to locate it. Can anyone help ?
When downloaded from Microsoft Dreamsparks, like i did. The software installer creates a temp folder on the c drive. this is what the program was looking for. The reason it could not find it because it was downloaded on another pc. Which means the temp folder was never created.

I have recently installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 Community Edition on my laptop.
Since the time of installation I have been facing a few issues.
I was not able to even access the New Project option itself.
Some of the times I will be able to access it however, sometimes it does not even allow me to access a single file of my solution in the startup itself it gives me an error.
I have attached a set of five screenshots in this query. There is some blank space after users path, I removed an extra folder name(username) from the path so dont get confused with that.
The detail of all the screenshots are as follows:
1) This is the image I get when I launch the Visual Studio on my laptop.
2) Once I click 'NO' option on the first dialog box I get a new one stating an error with the source code.
3) Once that is done, I move onto Solution Explorer to access the solution and I get this log.
4) When I try to access the tools tab to check for options I get this error message.
5) I had even tried to create a new project and the following error provided in this screenshot would appear.
I am not able to understand where I could have gone wrong or what happened that has corrupted the application to this extent. Is it an installation issue or are there some bugs in this version of Visual Studio, if there are any I would be more than happy to move to previous versions as I was a lot happier with them than this one.
If someone would help on this concern I would be really thankful.

First, I went ahead and uninstalled the current version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 from my system. Then, I searched and removed the data from the temporary files related to MS VS 2015 from the following paths:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio
Once this had been done, I went ahead and installed Visual Studio 2015. After installation, I installed the additional support directories for Visual C++. You can do the same for the platform you wish to work on.
Then I installed updates from the following link:

Once I started the solution it worked perfectly fine after that with no errors.
Situation.
I have Web developer Express Studio 2008 installed on my system.
Until recent windows update it worked fine, but about 2 weeks ago it start giving me an error every time I attempt to create any new project. Screen shot of an error below:

I did try to do windows restore to point before update and it did not worked.
As a next step I installed Visual Studio 2010(same result) and VS 2015 same result but a bit more descriptive error. Screen show below.

But there is no clear information on Microsoft MSDN forums about this error or how to fix it.
I did try to do reset(devenv.exe\resetsettings) but so far no luck.
Any idea what is going on and how to fix this?
Right now I can not create ANY new project and some of older projects are not opening as well. There is no system of or any kind of similarity between projects which opens or not.
This is a fairly vague error as the dll in question isn't listed here and 0x8007045a is just the error code for this dll initialization error. As a next step in troubleshooting to find the issue (outside of a windows repair) I'd go ahead and run Process Monitor and watch the file system activity for Visual Studio (once you see devenv.exe show up, right click on it and include just that process.
There's a blog post with some troubleshooting steps here but really though, you need to find which library is the culprit to track down what you'll need to reinstall (likely from a system or shared library side).
I'm building a project in Visual Studio 2010 and the build fails because it cannot copy the assemblyname.dll file from obj to bin folder. The exact error message is:
Error 7
Unable to copy file "obj\Debug\AssemblyName.dll" to "bin\AssemblyName.dll". The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open.
I think this is because the previous file in bin-folder is not accessible. When I try to delete the file manually, I get an error "The action can't be completed because the file is open in another program". If I try to see what application locks the file with Unlocker, I don't get any results (No Locking handle found).
If I restart Visual Studio, the error goes away but happens again after a build or two. Goes without saying that this is seriously slowing me down. Any advice how to start solving this?
VIsual Studio 2012 on Windows 8. I was receiving the same error message on my project. Restarting Visual Studio or cleaning the obj folder manually did not help. Finally I closed all open files (Windows -> Close All Documents) and the problem went away.
This behavior was due to a newly installed Visual Studio extension called Visual Studio Achievements (http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/bc7a433b-b594-48d4-bba2-a2f24774d02f)
I noticed that the .pdb file was locked by FxCop (using Unlocker) and I think that the Achievements -extension uses it. After disabling the extension I've no longer got the error mentioned above.
This bug has been fixed in recent versions of the extension (>1.7). It was released as a beta, btw...
This behavior of VS happen very often even on my computer (and on computers of my coworkers).
In my experience it happen more frequently when:
I have some form opened in design when i compile
I stop the execution od the application by pressing the "stop" button
in VS instead of exiting the application
So, closing the form in design before compile, and exiting the application instead of stopping it, somewhat mitigate the issue... but it still happen :-|
My computer is Win 7 x64 SP1 with VS 2010 SP1, 8Gb ram, and no swap file

I found that I receive this error when I am accessing the folder in Windows Explorer.
I was creating PDF documents with Visual Studio 2012. To review the sample document I would right click in Solution Explorer and use Open Folder in File Explorer.
On Windows 7 I would get a SYSTEM.IO error if the actual PDF document was open in Adobe Reader which is expected. With Windows 8 I found that I receive the above error if I have the folder open. I suspect there is a conflict with the Windows 8 preview.
If I close the folder and run the program it works fine.
Check if you open the dll in visual studio.

I'm trying to launch a project created by someone else in my local environment. I'm currently using the following products:
Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate version 10.0.40219.1 SP1 Rel
MVC 2
Windows 7 Ultimate
But when I double click on the .sln file I get the following error:
C:\Users...\Desktop\ContactManager\ContactManager\ContactManager.csproj : error : The project file 'C:\Users...\Desktop\ContactManager\ContactManager\ContactManager.csproj' cannot be opened.
The project type is not supported by this installation.
Please help me load my project. :)

Turns out that I just needed to install MVC version 3. I guess the project that I was trying to open is using MVC3 and my machine only had 2 as you can see in my environment list above. I'm glad I was able to fix this BUT give me a better error message for crying out loud. Sheesh. ;)

I've come across this before. In my case, I had installed Microsoft SQL Server and, more importantly, BIDS. Whenever I would open a project that was created in VS2008, the VS version selector would identify this as a 2008 project and BIDS would try to open it (and this error would occur). What I did as a work-around is I would right-click on the .sln file and use the "Open With" to select VS2010. If that also works for you, you can change your defaults for what opens .sln files.
Another way to test this is to open VS2010 and then use the "Open Solution" menu option to open your solution. If this method works, you know the issue is the default program that is opening your .sln files.
In my case project needs to have MVC3 so at first i checked i have MVC3 template in Visual Studio 2010 (service pack 1 installed). I downloaded MVC3 installer frowm following link:

I am trying to install Microsoft visual studio Professional 2010 on my Windows XP SP3 edition. I am getting the error "vs_setup.msi could not be open" :
I have seen some forums mentioning the same problem for different reasons, and mostly because of having a previous version of Microsoft visual studio installed, but this is the first time for me to install it. Any idea how to fix that ?
Note: The actual setup files are in the path "G:\Visual Studio 2010 Professional". I do not know why the setup is trying to look for vs_setup.msi inside the "G:" directly ! Of course it is not there.
Maybe this setup is from DVD image and it's hardcoded to work in root directory.
Try to move all setup files to G:\ or another drive root
It probably doesn't like the spaces in the installation folder name. Rename "Visual Studio 2010 Professional" to VS2010Pro and see if it doesn't start working.
Also look for the setup log in %temp%. Sometimes it's cryptic but you can usually get SOME idea of what went wrong. Maybe edit your question with the errors from that log. It's called dd_something*something* etc.

With 7zip open and extract VSIsoShell.exe in a New Directory (there are many files inside of this .exe).
After this is done, redirect to the right path w/ the extracted files (with vs_setup.msi file).
7zip is an Open source Windows utility for manipulating archives (www.7-zip.org)
