Magento site restoration - magento

I have a situation where I had to restore my magento site from an FTP backup which I made earlier of all the files and folders of the public_html directory. Note that I don't have a mySql backup.
Now when I try to visit my www.domainname.com site, it just displays an error number. Note that I can no longer go to www.domainname.com/admin. I do not know how to enable debug logging so I can see what the error number is trying to tell me. However, I can go to my hostgator.com control panel and click on the error logs, but there are no entries.
My question is: is there any way I can salvage the original site, minus the database? I'm okay with having to re-enter products, etc., that I once had into the database.
Thanks in advance.

The site is 85% the database. No database backup, no site.
You must backup both your public_html files and your Magento database to fully back up your Magento e-commerce installation.
Basically all you have is the application, code changes, skin and templates from the previous version.
Configuration, CMS pages, categories, product and all the rest live in the database.
The error number displayed is the file name of a stack trace that ends up in var/report. It's probably telling you that no database exists at this point.

Magento 1.9: frontend pages are blank (only header is visible)

I am new to Magento, We have one Magento 1.9 version website. Actually I want to change the host, for this, I took all files backup from the server and also exported the database and then I have uploaded all files into another host(Godaddy) and imported the database. Everything working fine at the admin panel or backend pages, but front end pages not loading properly, just its loading header part of the page.
I didn't change anything in the files, I just transferred the files from one host into another hosting, but I don't know why frontend pages are not loading.
Please anyone give me a solution to fix that issue. Please see the below screenshot for reference. Thank you in advance.
This behavior could be due to a PHP error that is not being printed to the screen because of the PHP configuration. Try enabling print error on PHP and see if anything shows up. Contact your provider (Godaddy) for guidance.
Also, ensure that all configuration on admin panel is set. When you upload database and make a new installation, even when uploading the old database, if you do not specify the same old encryption key, some configuration will be missing, for example payment provider tokens and so on.
Check also if your home page CMS still exists and is configured to show on home page. Check this on CMS pages and maybe on your theme configuration.
system -> configuration -> general -> web -> homepage CMS
For any further guidance, would need more details.

Prestashop Url change

I have a problem,
I changed the url of my prestashop because I have a new url.
But now i have the Problem that i tipped in the wrong path, and if i want to log in as admin then the shop directs me everytime to the wrong path so I can't change anything...
Does anybody know in which folder of the FTP Server I can change it in the data?
I tired to delete the htaccess data but this didn't help me.
Or is it another option to go back to where I started, before i changed the Url?
I think that your problem occurred not from a .htaccess but from your database. Prestashop keeps domain URL in the DB and if you changed it you better to check table configuration fields PS_SHOP_DOMAIN, PS_SHOP_DOMAIN_SSL and table shop_url. I think that the problem is over there.
When you want to migrate to another server, you have to
Update the _DB_... constants in config/settings.inc.php file
Since your database does not changed, this step is not necessary.
Update PS_SHOP_DOMAIN and PS_SHOP_DOMAIN_SSL fields in configuration database table
Update the domain, domain_ssl and physical_uri fields in the shop_url database table
Now you can log in to the admin page. When you did it, your first step has to go to Preference -> SEO & URLs, then turn off and on again the Friendly URLs switch to update the .htaccess files.
These steps are works on Prestashop 1.6, but not tested on 1.7.
See the official blog post for additional details:

Magento admin page blank after login

My magento version 1.8.0.1 website admin panel shows a BLANK Page after login in. until 2-3 days ago its worked perfectly; I made no changes in any file related to my website.
Could anybody tell me that what's going on with my website & what is the cause of this problem.
An image of the blank page: http://i.stack.imgur.com/pmskn.png
Flush your magento root /var/cache folder and /var/session folders, It may have previous server session that may cause problems.
To rectify this problem:
Login to database via phpmyadmin or any other mysql client.
Open core_config_data table.
Find entry with path like dev/log/active.
Set its value to 1.
Delete /var/session and /var/cache folders in your installation.
Retry to login to admin panel.
If problem is related to functionality, there will be log files in /var/log folder.
You can trace cause of problem from log files of magento.
Please let me know if you find any difficulty.

Locking Out Admin After Migration - Magento

So I've gotten myself into a bit of a pickle and need assistance from StackOverflow Gods.
We're trying to transfer a Magento site from one server (Godaddy) to another (Private Virtual Server) for the purpose of becoming a test site.
I'm not familiar with Magento (my first mistake) but I researched migration, and I ran across an article that said all you need to transfer is the database, theme files, catalog files and skin files.
So that's just what we did. We setup a fresh install, added the files and the site (http://boulderfootandankle.com/apv-test/) looks like it's got some formatting errors. We figured we could fix those after adding the database.
As soon as we connected the database through the local.xml file, the theme changed to a generic one (I imagine a fallback) and we were locked out of the admin.
I tried a number of the solutions offered for this very problem, which included:
Clearing the var/cache and var/session folders.
Altering the core config data values for the unsecure and secure web base urls.
Deleting the unsecure and secure web base urls and cookie values form the database.
Changing the sessions save CDATA from "files" to "db"
Changing the install date to the original
Altering the varien file
...and nothing seems to work.
At this point, I'm just wondering if doing a fresh transfer of the site from one server to another, instead of transferring specific files into a fresh install, would work
Did you use the same encryption key as the previous installation? The encryption key is set in the local.xml file and needs to be the same on both extensions. When you did a fresh install it would have given you a new encryption key and this could be why you are unable to login.
just my quick list for transferring sites...
1. run files backup and mysql dump (from source)
2. Copy local.xml (from Target)
3. Restore backup and mysql dump (to Target)
4. Restore local.xml(from step 2 to Target)
5. Correct base_url (in Target)
The only time I have ever had a problem with this is when I run things locally for dev in that case there is varien specific check that monks with admin login(but, sounds like you know this).

I am on 1.14 and the posters suggestion essentially is the same fix I found. Of course the responder is totally correct on the horror of this solution but, since this is a test site as long as you leave yourself the right notes you should be able to undo this when you move to production.

Taking over a Joomla created site

So i have a client, who has a disc of an entire site. Root server files, all the way to /httphome/ files...
However, it looks like it was created using Joomla. Now, i know my HTMl and CSS but have never used a CMS like Joomla.
To get this site up and running, am i going to have to install Joomla on my clients server, and then upload the files?
i am going to assume its not that easy.... anyone got any insight into this process and what im looking at?
thanks
Keep in mind that Joomla content resides in a MySql database.
You need the following:
Database export
Create a DB on you MySQL server
Upload the files
Edit configuration.php to work with you db and also set your path there
Also, some components might need some more setup, as some of them have their own cfg files.
To get this site up and running (if the file is really the entire site) should be as simple as setting up a web server and pointing it to the directory with the index in it. Joomla should already be in that file. Let me know if i can elaborate on the process.
Since you are new to Joomla, you might want to try loading the disc contents up on your localhost first. Personally, when I'm trying something new, I hate for my first attempts to be somewhat public - I always feel a little safer if I do the first install someplace local where I'm the only person who can see it.
Best of luck with your project! If you run into any problems, or if you want to confirm that the site is definitely Joomla, let us know and we will get you sorted out.
Do you have the related database? The files that make up Joomla are useless without the database. You could install Joomla and upload your files over the top, but any database changes made by any installed extensions wouldn't be made to that install. You'd also be missing all of the actual site content without the database.
If you do have the database, then all you need to do is import the database in you your mySQL, then upload the files you have on the disc and edit configuration.php file with the new database user and password.
