I am a web API newbie, trying my first POST to the API (all my GETs are fine). And no matter what I try, model binding doesn't seem to work. Routing is fine, because I see control coming to the correct method, but model object references is always null. I tried with a simple class as model (two properties, both strings), still no luck.
Any suggestions on what I am missing? I am using fiddler to post. eg: request body has
{"Name":"Test","Description":"Test"}
Tried with a = at the start, Tried method-argument-variable= at the start, no luck.

When you sending the parameter by request body , you must use the [FromBody] attribute in method body. [FromBody] denotes it binds the parameters from request to the model class.
Check whether you are using [FromBody] or by url ?

I've developed a Spring API /getFileData, which accepts three URI parameters viz. businessDate/fileName/recordId. It is possible to have any of them can be passed as null. But I still want my API to be working in this case also. How can I achieve this?
I've tried using #GetMapping("getFileData/{businessDate}/{fileName}/{recordId}", "getFileData/{businessDate}//", "getFileData/{businessDate}/{fileName}/")..so on like this for all possible combinations.

I want this API to be working for all the combination of URI parameters if something get missed out. for example someone requested,
/getFileData///22 or
/getFileData/22Dec2018/ or
/getFileData//treasure/22
You can do that with a #RequestParam of type java.util.Map.
With your design, you will have various #PathVariable params in the controller method as well as the order of path variables /{var1}/{var2}... constructs the url so I don't think it would be possible to skip a path variable in the url and still call the same controller method.
I am able to use JSON.stringify to post a single object literal to a webapi action. However when I try to post two parameter objects the second one comes in null (my webapi has a default value of null for the second parameter). Any ideas how to do this?
In Web API v2 when you supply data in the POST body that are not part of the model, they are ignored by the framework. This is fine in most cases, but I need to check this and return an error response, so the user doesn't get unexpected results (he expects these wrong parameters to do something...).
So how do I check for this? The model will be null, but when the framework has parsed the data and returned a null-model, I can no longer access the body through Request.Content. So what options are there?

I have implemented attribute routing for each of action methods in My Webapi.
Example of action method is:-
[Route("api/DocumentApi/DeleteDocument/{fileInfoId}/{customerAccountName}")]

Now i want to call the above action method from the client example( Fiddler Web debugger),or browser and want to pass the Url request in the below pattern:-
http://{localhost:9791}/api/DocumentApi/DeleteDocument?fileInfoId=12&customerAccountName="Manish"
Currently i am not able to hit the above action method by the above specified url request.
But if i use the url pattern like below:-
http://{localhost:9791}/api/DocumentApi/DeleteDocument/12/Manish
I am able to hit the above action method.But for my project requirement,I need to use the Url with query parameters only.
Please suggest me the approach,how to achieve this?

Route templates in Web API do not support specifying query string parameters. For your scenario, do not define fileInfoId and customerAccountName as part of your route template as doing so makes Web API to strictly look for 5 segments(the text between the / characters in your route template) in your request url...so just modify your route template to [Route("api/DocumentApi/DeleteDocument")] and keep the parameters on the actions as it is...

I am making an Ajax call to ASP.NET MVC endpoint. The url is something like this (Last parameter is null):
/employee/GetAllEmp/connID/Sale Dept/Month/Year/week/null?_dc=1371101563256
Server side:
public ActionResult GetAllEmp(string connID, string deptName, string month, string year, string week, string data)
When my application send request through IE, the endpoint at the server side is not called but when same request is being made through fire fox, system is able to call correct method.
What could be the reason? I googled around but could not find any answer :(

Based on what parameters your action method expects then /null will be parsed as a string literal rather than true null.
If this data is empty you should skip it completely and make your route accept an optional parameter
