MiniProfiler SqlServerStorage becomes quite slow - mvc-mini-profiler

We use mini profiler in two ways:
On developer machines with the pop-up
In our staging/prod environments with SqlServerStorage storing to MS SQL
After a few weeks we find that writing to the profiling DB takes a long time (seconds), and is causing real issues on the site. Truncating all profiler tables resolves the issue.
Looking through the SqlServerStorage code, it appears the inserts also do a check to make sure a row with that id doesnt already exist. Is this to ensure DB agnostic code? This seems it would introduce a massive penalty as the number of rows increases.
How would I go about removing the performance penalty from the performance profiler? Is anyone else experiencing this slow down? Or is it something we are doing wrong?

Hmm, it looks like I made a huge mistake in how that MiniProfilers table was created when I forgot about primary key being clustered by default... and the clustered index is a GUID column, a very big no-no.
Because data is physically stored on disk in the same order as the clustered index (indeed, one could say the table is the clustered index), SQL Server has to keep every newly inserted row in that physical order. This becomes a nightmare to keep sorted when we're using essentially a random number.
The fix is to add an auto-increasing int and switch the primary key to that, just like all the other tables (why I overlooked this, I don't remember... we don't use this storage provider here on Stack Overflow or this issue would have been found long ago).
I'll update the table creation scripts and provide you with something to migrate your current table in a bit.

After looking at this again, the main MiniProfilers table could just be a heap, meaning no clustered index. All access to the rows is by that guid ID column, so no physical ordering would help.
If you don't want to recreate your MiniProfiler sql tables, you can use this script to make the primary key nonclustered:

Operations on certain tables won't finish

We have a table TRANSMISSIONS(ID, NAME) which behaves funny in the following ways:
The statement to add a foreign key in another table referencing TRANSMISSIONS.ID won't finish
The statement to add a column to TRANSMISSIONS won't finish
The statement to disable/drop a unique constraint won't finish
The statement to disable/drop a trigger won't finish
TRANSMISSION's primary key is ID, there is also a unique constraint on NAME - therefore there are indexes on ID and NAME. We also have a trigger which creates values for column ID using a sequence, so that INSERT statements do not need to provide a value for ID.
Besides TRANSMISSIONS, there are two more tables behaving like this. For other tables, the above-mentioned statements work fine.
The database is used in an application with Hibernate and due to an incorrect JPA configuration we produced high values for ID during a time. Note that we use the trigger only for "manual" INSERT statements and that Hibernate produces ID values itself, also using the sequence.
The first thought was that the problems were due to the high IDs but we have the problems also with tables that never had such high IDs.
Anyways we suspected that the indexes might be fragmented somehow and called ALTER INDEX TRANSMISSIONS_PK SHRINK SPACE COMPACT, which ran through but showed no effect.
Also, we wanted to call ALTER TABLE TRANSMISSIONS SHRINK SPACE COMPACT which didn't work because we needed to call first ALTER TABLE TRANSMISSIONS ENABLE ROW MOVEMENT which never finished.
We have another instance of the database which does not behave in such a funny way. So we think it might be that in the course of running the application the database got somehow into an inconsistent state.
Does someone have any suggestions what might have gone out of control/into an inconsitent state?
More hints:
There are no locks present on any objects in the database (according to information in v$lock and v$locked_object)
We tried all these statements in SQL Developer and also using SQLPlus (command-line tool).

In Oracle, what dictionary table tells me the "store in" value for partitioned indexes?

We are running Oracle 11g and have some partitioned tables. I am trying to write an automated process to script out the indexes on these tables. (Basically when we do bulk loads, we want to drop all the indexes beforehand and recreate them afterward.)
The problem I have is knowing how to script out the partitioned indexes. Some are created with "LOCAL STORE IN (tablespacename)" and others just with "LOCAL" (which stores index extents in the same partition as the data). In either case, dba_indexes.tablespace_name is null, and I have having a heck of a time scripting out the two different cases correctly.
I know I can simply re-run the original DDL to recreate the indexes, but multiple parts of the organization can make changes, and there would be less risk if the loader tool could be self-contained and simply rebuild whatever was there to begin with.
I can query dba_ind_subpartitions, and if the tablespace_name values for every subpartition all match, then I can assume/infer that I should STORE IN that tablespace name. But, if the table is in a small single-partition state (e.g. newly created or just after archival), then the ones created with just LOCAL also match this test, so this is also not a perfect way of telling them apart.
I can compare the names of the index subpartition tablespaces to the data table partition tablespaces, and if they match, then I can assume/infer that those should be created with just LOCAL. But, that drags a bunch of extra tables into my query and makes it really hard to read, so I am worried about maintainability going forward. Plus, it just seems like a kludge.
It seems like there should be someplace in Oracle's data dictionaries where it is simply keeping track of this, and where I can just directly look it up instead of having to do a bunch of math and rely on assumptions. But, I have done a good deal of digging and haven't yet found it. So, any help would be much appreciated.
Although an insert alone is faster without the presence of indexes, have you benchmarked a load into tables with indexes enabled and established that it is slower than disabling (more robust than dropping!) and rebuilding them?
When you direct path insert into a table with indexes, Oracle optimises the index maintenance process by creating temporary segments to hold just the data required for the index builds. This generally allows the index maintenance to scan much smaller segments than otherwise required -- the temp segments plus the existing indexes.
Well, as jonearles describes, the dbms_metadata package is the way to generate DDL for existing objects.
But, it seems to me, this is more work than is required for what you're trying to achieve. If this is all for loading data, I recommend you simply alter the indexes to be unusable, set 'skip_unusable_indexes=true', do the data load, and the rebuild the indexes.
This should achieve what you want, without having to drop and re-create the indexes.
DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL is easier than querying the data dictionary:

does Unique constraint on multiple columns has performance issues -Oracle

I am using Oracle database and I have a table for customers records and want to put a Unique key constraint on multiple varchar2 columns. like
CUST_ID (Number),
CUST_Name(varchar2),
Cust_N.I.C_NO(varchar2) will make a unique key.
when inserting new record through forms 6i, if ORA-00001 error comes, user will be informed that it was a DUPLICATED record.
Please advise me if there will be any database performance issue when records in this table will exceed 50000 or more.
If this is not a good practice to avoid inserting duplicate records, then please suggest any other approach.

Unique constraints are enforced though an index. So there are additional reads involved in the enforcement process. However, the performance impact of the constraint is minimal compared to the performance impact incurred by resolving duplicate keys in the database. Not to mention the business impact of such data corruption.
Besides, 50000 rows is a toy-sized table. Seriously, you won't be able to measure the difference of an insert with and without the constraints.

Sybase ASE remote row insert locking

Im working on an application which access a Sybase ASE 15.0.2 ,where the current code access a remote database
(CIS) to insert a row using a proxy table definition (the destination table is a DOL - DRL table - The PK
row is defined as identity ,and is always growing). The current code performs a select to check if the row
already exists to avoid duplicate data to be inserted.
Since the remote table also have a PK definition on the table, i do understand that the PK verification will
be done again prior to commiting the row.
Im planning to remove the select check since its being effectively done again by the PK verification,
but im concerned about if when receiving a file with many duplicates, the table may suffer
some unecessary contention when the data is tried to be commited.
Its not clear to me if Sybase ASE tries to hold the last row and writes the data prior to check for the
duplicate. Also, if the table is very big, im concerned also about the time it will spend looking the
whole index to find duplicates.

Unlike SqlAnywhere there is no option for ASE to set wait_for_commit. The primary key constraint is checked during the insert and not at the commit time. The problem as I understand from your post I see is if you have a mass insert from a file that may contain duplicates is to load into a temp table , check for duplicates, remove the duplicates and then insert the unique ones. Mass insert are lot faster though it still checks for primary key violations. However there is no cost associated as there is no rolling back. The insert statement is always all or nothing. Even if one row is duplicate the entire insert statement will fail. Check before insert in more of error free approach as opposed to use of constraint to the verification because it is going to fail and rollback is going to again be costly.

The link does have a very quick explanation about the insert from the CIS perspective. Its a variable to keep an eye on given that CIS may become a representative time consumer
if its performing data and syntax checking if it will be done again when CIS forwards the insert statement to the target server. I was afraid that CIS could have some influence beyond the network traffic/time over the locking/PK checking

I do agree that avoiding the PK duplication by checking if the row already exists by running a select and doing in a batch, but im currently looking for a stop gap solution, and that may be to perform the insert command in batches of about 50 rows and leave the
duplicate key check for the PK.
Hopefully the PK check will be done over a join of the 50 newly inserted rows, and thus
avoid to traverse the index for each single row...

Oracle drop and create index

I would like to know if dropping Oracle index and recreating them will pose any data issues if assuming these are done during scheduled downtime.
Recently discovered that some indexes were parked on incorrect table space, would like to correct it by dropping the index and recreating it on the correct table space.
Please kindly advise.
I don't see a problem with that, but instead of drop/create you could also use the syntax below:
alter index <INDEX_NAME> rebuild tablespace <TABLESPACE_NAME>
To address what you asked in the comment below, the alter index rebuild should be faster. The reason for that is when you drop the index and create it again, index tree will be built from the table itself. But with alter index rebuild, Oracle reads the index itself, thus resulting in a smaller amount of I/O.
