Return content of helper from controller method - asp.net-mvc-3

I have created a helper named ManagementHeirarchy.
Now after some processing i want to return the results from controller to the the view again to update a particular div.
like we return partialviews as
return PartialView("~/Views/Hr/_ReviewersListForSpecifiedJobApplication.cshtml", listCorporateHierarchy);
how can we return results from helper?
How can i do that?
Please help.

you should just write the name of the partial view instead of writing everything u wrote..
for example if the name of the partial view is "partial.cshtml" then
return PartialView("partial",objectName);
so in ur case it would be
return PartialView("ReviewersListForSpecifiedJobApplication",listCorporateHierarchy);

Use
return PartialView("ReviewersListForSpecifiedJobApplication",model);
where, model is the data returned from the helper.
OR
You can save the data from the helper in the Viewbag and then use it in the View as below:
Controller:
public ActionResult ReviewersListForSpecifiedJobApplication()
{
//some helper returning data in "data" variable
ViewBag.datafromhelper= data;
return PartialView();
}
If you don't have separate method for returning the View then just pass the view name only as below:
return PartialView("ReviewersListForSpecifiedJobApplication");

How can i pass other data in other function in my controller to view using CI

how can i pass a value from my query to the same view in CI. I am having a situation of like this:
public function index() {
$myinfo = $this->Myprofile_model->mydata();
$data['myinfo'] = $myinfo
$this->load->view('header');
$this->load->view('myprofile',$data);
$this->load->view('footer');
}
public function getResults($id) {
$fetchdata = $this->Myprofile_model->fetchresult($id);
$data['userselect'] = $fetchdata;
$this->load->view('myprofile',$data);
}
i already load my wholepage in index. and now i want to make another function to my button which is the getResults($id) function in my controller, and i want to display my another data from database to the same page. When i do the top code, my view is duplicating, because i loaded the $this->load->view('myprofile',$data); twice.
1: Create helper function and use that function on view page.
OR
If you want records for single id then merge both function in one.
If there is many ids and you want to fetch records on click for each id then you can use ajax.
$( document ).ready(function() {
$('.class_name').click(function(){
// place your code here to fetch records.
// on success you can display the result on same page
})
});
I am Not getting clearly but here is the controller to load multiple data on view:
public function index($id) {
$myinfo = $this->Myprofile_model->mydata();
$fetchdata = $this->Myprofile_model->fetchresult($id);
$this->load->view('header');
$this->load->view('myprofile',['myinfo'=>$myinfo,'fetchdata'=>$fetchdata]);
$this->load->view('footer');
}
You can use
$this->load->view('myprofile',['myinfo'=>$myinfo,'fetchdata'=>$fetchdata,'third_data'=>$third_data.. as many as you like]);
Here in your code you are passing an id to the getResults function so if you would like to load the data form this function you can do the same with this function. or pass the id to the same index function to get the result.

How to retrieve HTML from view object without rendering to the browser

I have 2 separate partials views. I want to get the HTML with the given data from those partials views and have to send a Json response from controller.
Here is my code snippet.
public function myControllerFunction()
{
$response['products'] = view('search._partials.product_box')->with('data', $data['products]);
$response['filters'] = view('search._partials.facet_filters')->with('data', $data['filters]);
return $response;
}
I want to achieve some thing like it. This is possible with plain php code but is there any way to achieve it with this framework.
Just use render() function to generate html from view in controller
Your function should look like this
public function myControllerFunction()
{
$response['products'] = view('search._partials.product_box')->with('data', $data['products])->render();
$response['filters'] = view('search._partials.facet_filters')->with('data', $data['filters])->render();
return response()->json($response);
}

Calling Partial View From Controller and get the return to variable in Asp.Net MVC

Using ViewData to pass string from Controller to View in ASP.NET MVC3

I am trying to pass a random string from my Controller to the View.
Here is my Controller code:
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult DisplayForm(UserView user)
{
//some data processing over here
ViewData["choice"] = "Apple";
return RedirectToAction("Next", "Account");
}
Now I want to pass that data value "Apple" to my view Next.cshtml which is created as follows:
//View: Next.cshtml
#{
ViewBag.Title = "Thanks for registering";
Layout = "~/Content/orangeflower/_layout.cshtml";
}
<p>Your favorite fruit is:</p>#ViewData["choice"]
But I am not able to see my data in the browser when the project runs.
Here is the snapshot:
1) On debug, the controller showing the value:
2) The browser view doesn't show the value "Apple"
3) On further debug to my Next.cshtml View:
Why is the value not getting passed to the View correctly. Both my controllers for Next and DisplayForm are within the same Controller AccountController.cs , still value not getting displayed.
Can someone help me solve this ?
You are not rendering a view, you are redirecting. If you wanted to pass some information tyo the view you need to return this view after adding it to ViewData:
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult DisplayForm(UserView user)
{
//some data processing over here
ViewData["choice"] = "Apple";
return View();
}
If you want to pass a message that will survive after a redirect you could use TempData instead of ViewData.
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult DisplayForm(UserView user)
{
//some data processing over here
TempData["choice"] = "Apple";
return RedirectToAction("Next", "Account");
}
then inside the Next action you could fetch the data from TempData and store it inside ViewData so that the view can read it.
You are performing a post - redirect - get. The ViewData is being set for this request, which returns a redirect, clearing the ViewData, then another request happens which does not have the data. Use TempData instead and it will be added to the ViewData automatically on the next request.

Persisting Data from one controller to another

Hey guys,
What is the best mechansims for persisting viewmodel data from one controller to another.
For instance
return RedirectToAction("SomeAction", "SomeController");
I need to have some data from the previous controller available to the new controller I am redirecting to.
If you are not passing an object or something complex, make use of parameters. Just make sure redirected action gets parameters to display what it should.
return RedirectToAction("SomeAction", "SomeController",new { id=someString} );
Get the parameter in the action:
public ActionResult SomeAction(string id)
{
//do something with it
}
#Ufuk Hacıoğulları: You can't share information between 2 controllers using ViewData. ViewData only shares information between Controller and View.
If you need to share complex information between multiple Controllers while redirection, use "TempData" instead.
Here is how you use "TempData" - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd394711.aspx
A redirect is going to send an http response to the client that directs it to then make a new http request to /SomeController/SomeAction. An alternative would be for you to call a method on your other controller directly... new SomeController().SomeAction(someData) for example.
I think this will be helpfull to you to pass value from one action to another action .
public ActionResult ActionName(string ToUserId)
{
ViewBag.ToUserId = ToUserId;
return View();
}
public ActionResult ssss(string ToUserId)
{
return RedirectToAction("ActionName", "ControllerName", new { id = #ToUserId });
}
