Simple Application to switch Primary dispay
(1 answer)
Closed 5 years ago.
I frequently switch my desktop from the LCD monitor to the TV (HDMI output from an Nvidia 660 gtx) and back. To do this is fairly cumbersome - and I want to make it very simple for the kids too. Currently I have to right click the desktop -> Screen resolution -> Multiple Displays -> Show desktop only on 1 -> ok. Then go to the TV and click ok on the 'is this resolution ok' prompt.
I'd like one button - and preferably no prompt on the other device.
Any idea what part of the windows API I need to be looking at? Maybe I can do it through a shell command?
Any pointers would be welcome as I don't know where to start.
There is a keyboard shortcut in Windows 7 which may do what you want.... Windows + P
I have found 3 different links that describe possible solutions for your problem. An monitor switcher application in WPF, a description for windows xp and a forum post about the topic. All within the first and second google page, maybe you can find your answer there?

Prevent screen capture in an iOS app

HI I am developing an app using Xamarin Forms PCL project. I want to restrict user from taking screenshot in my ios app . How can I prevent user from taking screenshot?
As far as I'm aware you can't prevent screenshots, using xamarin won't change anything about this. But you can detect them (like snapchat does) see.
It is impossible to prevent user from taking screenshots in iOS (as far as I know), currently. The operating system itself only can restrict users from taking screenshots, currently (also).
Still you can do something to make the process of taking screenshots harder. Users need to press the sleep/wake button and the home button in order to take screenshots and it needs both hands. So you can implement a way to show the data only when the user touches someplace in the screen. Such a mechanism would be great in this case.
I want to know if it is possible to have data from my Windows 8 program be able to show up in windows search. For instance, the user could search for "myprogramdata1" in windows and then an item would show up that when clicked would open up my program and I'd be able know that "myprogramdata1" was selected.
EDIT:
I know that it is possible for windows 10. For the program DisplayFusion, if I search settings, there is a result for DisplayFusion settings that can be clicked on and will bring me to the settings page for the program. Does anyone know how this is done?
First of see if you say the command that you typed in using cortana and if it opens settings. If yes, You can absolutely do it.
I did it for one of my app too( Well this was not my intention but it works )
UWP Samples-CortanaVoiceCommand
The key here is once Voice Commands are installed, you can type the text in cortana search (instead of actual voice command) and it works the same. You can still use patterns of voice commands and still type in Cortana search and open your app.
I've used the following code on Windows Phone 7 and 8 to disable user idle detection when my App is displaying data to the user and they are unlikely to interact with the screen e.g. A recipe App where the screen needs to stay on:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.phone.shell.phoneapplicationservice.useridledetectionmode(v=vs.92).aspx
Does anyone know if there is an analogue of this available for Windows 8 applications? My tablet app has the same requirement to disable the screen turning off. I haven't managed to find anything :-(
Many thanks,
Jon
You should use the DisplayRequest class, specifically DisplayRequest.RequestActive for this purpose. You must also remember to call DisplayRequest.RequestRelease once you are done to allow the display to sleep, for example, if you are not viewing a recipe, or you are in a menu screen, etc.
My Lenovo laptop has two task bar type programs that show the network status and battery status. I have been trying to search for what these types of widgits are called. Unfortuantly my google-foo is only returning results for minimizing programs to the system tray.
I am not even sure if these are system tray apps or taskbar apps. but either way, please help me find a API reference or even better a tutorial.
I want to make a Work Week Widgit, that displays the current work week number on this widget. I program mostly in python, but am willing to learn another language just to make this tool.
They are known as Desktop Bands, also known as DeskBands. Note that Desktop Bands are not recommended starting in Windows 7. Note also that since they are shell extensions, they must be written in native code.
I need to run a program - probably for a couple of days.
I am just wondering how I can prevent windows 7 to go into sleep mode/hibernate and prevent automatic update.
Thanks.
Christian
As for preventing sleep/hibernate try to look in MSDN at SetThreadExecutionState, WM_POWERBROADCAST. Read also the following document.
Or you can just right click on the power icon near the clock, or type power in the Start Menu and select power options. Next choose one of the currnet power plan your computer is set to, and click on the Change plan settings. Simply set ALL the parameter to Never... you computer will run forever...
There are two great sample chapters on Windows Phone and Silverlight for Windows Phone on the LearningWindosPhone.com site. There is great Windows Phone Trainng material , and dont forget the Windows Phone Develoeprs Blog
