prevent sleep mode and automatic update/shutdown - windows 7 - windows-7

I need to run a program - probably for a couple of days.
I am just wondering how I can prevent windows 7 to go into sleep mode/hibernate and prevent automatic update.
Thanks.
Christian

As for preventing sleep/hibernate try to look in MSDN at SetThreadExecutionState, WM_POWERBROADCAST. Read also the following document.

Or you can just right click on the power icon near the clock, or type power in the Start Menu and select power options. Next choose one of the currnet power plan your computer is set to, and click on the Change plan settings. Simply set ALL the parameter to Never... you computer will run forever...
There are two great sample chapters on Windows Phone and Silverlight for Windows Phone on the LearningWindosPhone.com site. There is great Windows Phone Trainng material , and dont forget the Windows Phone Develoeprs Blog

Integrate Windows 8 program with windows search

I want to know if it is possible to have data from my Windows 8 program be able to show up in windows search. For instance, the user could search for "myprogramdata1" in windows and then an item would show up that when clicked would open up my program and I'd be able know that "myprogramdata1" was selected.
EDIT:
I know that it is possible for windows 10. For the program DisplayFusion, if I search settings, there is a result for DisplayFusion settings that can be clicked on and will bring me to the settings page for the program. Does anyone know how this is done?
First of see if you say the command that you typed in using cortana and if it opens settings. If yes, You can absolutely do it.
I did it for one of my app too( Well this was not my intention but it works )
UWP Samples-CortanaVoiceCommand
The key here is once Voice Commands are installed, you can type the text in cortana search (instead of actual voice command) and it works the same. You can still use patterns of voice commands and still type in Cortana search and open your app.

Is there an analogue of Windows Phone 'User Idle Detection' in Windows 8?

I've used the following code on Windows Phone 7 and 8 to disable user idle detection when my App is displaying data to the user and they are unlikely to interact with the screen e.g. A recipe App where the screen needs to stay on:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.phone.shell.phoneapplicationservice.useridledetectionmode(v=vs.92).aspx
Does anyone know if there is an analogue of this available for Windows 8 applications? My tablet app has the same requirement to disable the screen turning off. I haven't managed to find anything :-(
Many thanks,
Jon
You should use the DisplayRequest class, specifically DisplayRequest.RequestActive for this purpose. You must also remember to call DisplayRequest.RequestRelease once you are done to allow the display to sleep, for example, if you are not viewing a recipe, or you are in a menu screen, etc.

Windows 7 Taskbar Widget or Toolbar

My Lenovo laptop has two task bar type programs that show the network status and battery status. I have been trying to search for what these types of widgits are called. Unfortuantly my google-foo is only returning results for minimizing programs to the system tray.
I am not even sure if these are system tray apps or taskbar apps. but either way, please help me find a API reference or even better a tutorial.
I want to make a Work Week Widgit, that displays the current work week number on this widget. I program mostly in python, but am willing to learn another language just to make this tool.
They are known as Desktop Bands, also known as DeskBands. Note that Desktop Bands are not recommended starting in Windows 7. Note also that since they are shell extensions, they must be written in native code.

How to stop Windows Phone 7 from locking screen?

The application could not be launched for debugging. Ensure that the
target device screen is unlocked and that the application is installed.
How to get rid of this annoying message which appears every time I try to debug or run project from Visual Studio on Windows Phone 7 after 5 minutes of not-using phone (5 minutes is maximum time of sreen time-out I can set in phone settings).
I am missing something? Is it possible to avoid phone form locking/time-outing screen either from VS at start of debugging or in special application that I would manually start first before debugging so that app will be back on screen when debugging is finished and stopping phone from locking screen? But how to stop phone from locking screen? :-)
UPDATE: I have Omnia 7 which is AMOLED and doesn't have "never" setting. According to J. Loomis said in comment below, this is because "they can get severe burn in if left sitting on for extended periods" so best would be to unlock screen programmatically on start of debugging. I think this should work this way in VS.
In "Settings" select "lock & wallpaper" turn the password off and set "Screen time-out" to never.
It is important to note that the "never" option will only show if the password switch is set to off.
you can set UserIdleDetectionMode = Disabled to prevent the lockscreen from coming down on your app while debugging/developing/testing. Use it with caution in your released app. See MSDN for details:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.phone.shell.phoneapplicationservice.useridledetectionmode(VS.92).aspx
My phone (Lumia 800) does not have a setting for "Never" in lock+wallpaper settings, even with the password turned off. The only way I could get the phone to stop locking between debugging sessions is to have another app running in the background behind the app you are debugging that has UserIdleDetectionMode set to disabled. There is an app in the marketplace whose sole purpose is this call Phone! Dont Sleep! (note: I did not make this app nor do I know who made it, I am just sharing because I found it helpful)

Windows slideshow with tasks

Hi and thanks before hand.
At my restaurant we keep all the menu items in a monitor plugged to a Windows 7 machine, but customers usually ask for another menu to be shown so we have to manually switch the applications. Is there some way to make a slideshow-wise install to switch between applications (something like and Automatic Timed ALT + TAB)?
Have them on your website, allow customers to browse the website.
