How to manage artifactory / maven artifact using different profiles - maven

i have some problems understanding how to manage different "jar" files generated using different profiles.
An example. I have a project : my.project:sample:1.0
And we use two profiles:
Using Profile1 is compiling using java 7 and with dependency other:project:1.0
Using Profile2 is compiling using java 6 and with dependency different:project:3.0
Using command line in local environment is easy to manage, but I don't know how to store and manage it on artifactory.
We have two different projects that use the same library but generated using different profiles:
A Project require my.project:sample:1.0 - Profile1"
Another project require my.project:sample:1.0 - Profile2"
How can I specify those depedency with the library and the profile?
Clarification: The generated Jar it's storing using artifactory, and the projects resolve the dependencies using the repository. I can't use the project as a module.

You can use classifier to make the distinction between artifacts and reuse the classifier in the dependency.
defining a classifier
To do so you need to define the classifier in maven-jar-plugin:
<profiles>
<profile>
<id>profile1</id>
...
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-jar-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.4</version>
<executions>
<execution>
<phase>package</phase>
<goals>
<goal>jar</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<classifier>jdk6</classifier>
</configuration>
</execution>
</executions>
<plugin>
<plugins>
</build>
</profile>
<profile>
<id>profile2</id>
...
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-jar-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.4</version>
<executions>
<execution>
<phase>package</phase>
<goals>
<goal>jar</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<classifier>jdk7</classifier>
</configuration>
</execution>
</executions>
<plugin>
<plugins>
</build>
</profile>
</profiles>
using the classifier in dependency
Very simple:
<dependency>
<groupId>myGroup</groupId>
<artifactId>myArtifact</artifactId>
<classifier>jdk6</classifier>
<dependency>

convert maven plugin into gradle plugin

I'm planning to use aspects-jcabi for benchmarking my methods (http://aspects.jcabi.com/annotation-loggable.html). However, it uses maven-plugin, and my project is on gradle. I'm not yet that familiar with Gradle though.
Can I write the following in gradle (http://aspects.jcabi.com/example-weaving.html)?
<project>
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>com.jcabi</groupId>
<artifactId>jcabi-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<version>0.8</version>
<executions>
<execution>
<goals>
<goal>ajc</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
</project>

Maven remove version from dependency jar

I'd like to know if there is a way to remove version number from maven dependency.
Let's say for my project I'd like to fetch commons-lang3 3.4 using maven dependency plugin:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.commons</groupId>
<artifactId>commons-lang3</artifactId>
<version>3.4</version>
</dependency>
My pom configuration says, it is fetching dependencies to the ./lib directory inside of my project.
What I would like to achieve is remove on the fly version number from commons-lang3-3.4.jar. It would look like:
./lib/commons-lang3.jar
Question: Is there any way to do such thing?
Specifying finalName won't help here.
<build>
<finalName>${project.name}-testing</finalName>
</build>
Below my existing configuration:
<project>
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-dependency-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.10</version>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>copy-dependencies</id>
<phase>process-resources</phase>
<goals>
<goal>copy-dependencies</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<outputDirectory>${dir.javaLibs}</outputDirectory>
</configuration>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
</project>
To remove the version from copied dependencies, you can use the stripVersion option of the maven-dependency-plugin:
Strip artifact version during copy
Which has default value to false.
Hence, given your existing configuration, here is the change:
<project>
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-dependency-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.10</version>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>copy-dependencies</id>
<phase>process-resources</phase>
<goals>
<goal>copy-dependencies</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<outputDirectory>${dir.javaLibs}</outputDirectory>
<!-- new configuration entry below-->
<stripVersion>true</stripVersion>
</configuration>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
</project>

Run Maven goal only in parent POM by activation

I am working on integrating a plugin into a multi-module project.
I am using a 3rd party plugin that essentially needs to only by run from the parent project (based on my understanding and usage of it). I tried to accomplish this by using a profile, like so:
<profiles>
<profile>
<id>run-my-guy</id>
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>com.myproject</groupId>
<artifactId>myproject-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<executions>
<execution>
<phase>package</phase>
<goals>
<goal>runThing</goal>
</goals>
<inherited>false</inherited>
</execution>
</executions>
<inherited>false</inherited>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
</profile>
</profiles>
I have several <inherited>false</inherited>, but if I run mvn help:all-profiles I can still see this profile in every single module. If I run my mvn package -P run-my-guy I see this get executed in every single subproject. I want the ability to activate this and I do not want it to be on by default.
If I try to add it the <build> section, like this:
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>com.myproject</groupId>
<artifactId>myproject-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<inherited>false</inherited>
<executions>
<execution>
<phase>package</phase>
<goals>
<goal>runThing</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
Here, I also have a few <inherited>false</inherited>, just to try and enforce that the plugin and the execution are not inherited. However, whenI run the package phase, or anything that includes that phase, the runThing goal is included.
How do I run a goal only by activation (like profile or some other feature, or just by explicitly running the goal) and only in the parent?
As shown in an answer for "Run a single Maven plugin execution?", it is now possible (since Maven 3.3.1) to specify an execution Id for a direct goal invocation.
pom.xml
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>com.myproject</groupId>
<artifactId>myproject-maven-plugin</artifactId>
<inherited>false</inherited>
<executions>
<id>myproject-exec-id</id> <!-- note the execution Id -->
<execution>
<phase>none</phase>
<goals>
<goal>runThing</goal>
</goals>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
And then invoking the goal from the command line uses the optional #executionId parameter:
mvn myproject:runThing#myproject-exec-id

maven-dependency-plugin unpack not being executed during phase

I'm packaging an ejb and I need to include some .classes from a dependency into the jar, I'm trying to use the maven-dependency-plugin to unpack the artifact and put the files in my ${project.build.directory}/classes directory during the package phase, but when I execute mvn package I dont see any log or reference to the maven-dependency-plugin (nothing happens), I even tried putting a invalid version of the plugin and It doesn't even throw exceptions.
Below my pom.xml
....
<packaging>ejb</packaging>
<name>myapp</name>
...repository and props
<build>
<pluginManagement>
<plugins>
...
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-dependency-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.4</version>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>unpack</id>
<phase>package</phase>
<goals>
<goal>unpack</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<artifactItems>
<artifactItem>
<groupId>com.myapp</groupId>
<artifactId>model</artifactId>
<version>1.0.0</version>
<type>jar</type>
<overWrite>true</overWrite>
<outputDirectory>${project.build.directory}/classes</outputDirectory>
<includes>**/shared/*.class</includes>
</artifactItem>
</artifactItems>
</configuration>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-ejb-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.3</version>
<configuration>
<ejbVersion>3.0</ejbVersion>
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</pluginManagement>
</build>
<dependencies>
<dependency>
<groupId>com.myapp</groupId>
<artifactId>model</artifactId>
<version>1.0.0</version>
</dependency>
</dependencies>
what am I missing?
PS: the artifact model is installed in the local repo and I have tried with other phases too.
If you remove the lines containing the text <pluginManagement> and </pluginManagement> the plugin should execute. Just those two lines, not the lines in between. pluginManagement is a marginally advanced feature.
PluginManagement provides configuration details to POMs that inherit from this POM. However this section provides only the configuration details. To actually be executed, the plugin must be explicitly referred to outside of a pluginManagement section.

How to Deploy only the sub-modules using maven deploy?

How do i deploy only the sub-modules of the project?
i have a project as;
ProjectA
- Submodule B
- Submodlue C
- Submodule D
The submodules are packaged as jar and is deployed to maven repo.how can only the sub -modules be deployed to the maven repository and not the main project?
Put this in module(s)(or module's pom.xml) that you don't want to deploy:
<properties>
<maven.deploy.skip>true</maven.deploy.skip>
</properties>
Since this is inherited by submodules, you have to put this in submodules that you do want to deploy:
<properties>
<maven.deploy.skip>false</maven.deploy.skip>
</properties>
Another suggestion could be doing the following:
mvn deploy -pl SubModuleB
This worked for me. Similar to other answer except added missing plugins element. Add to parent POM.
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-deploy-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.4</version>
<configuration>
<skip>true</skip>
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
You can use the technique described in my blog.
In this case, you'd disable default-deploy (or what the name is) in the root pom.xml:
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-deploy-plugin</artifactId>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>default-deploy</id>
<phase>none</phase>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
And then enable it for submodules:
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-deploy-plugin</artifactId>
<executions>
<execution>
<id>default-deploy</id>
<phase>deploy</phase>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
This is working on my side
Put the plugin declaration in the parent pom , skip=true, but set inherited=false.
This prevents from repeating the on each child modules.
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-deploy-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.8.2</version>
<configuration>
<skip>true</skip>
</configuration>
<inherited>false</inherited>
</plugin>
You can configure the maven-deploy-plugin in the POM of a module to exclude it from the deploy:
<build>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-deploy-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.4</version>
<configuration>
<skip>true</skip>
</configuration>
</plugin>
...
</build>
