I have just installed Enthought Canopy on my Windows 7 32-bit (I have russian version of Windows). But when I tried to start it, I got a bug reporter dialog window saying "... we ran into a problem setting up your environment ...". I also tried reinstalling it as administrator to a custom folder (C:/Program Files/Enthought to be exact), but the problem persists. I tried to send bug report throught this dialog window, but it freezes and it seems it doesn't send anything. Has anyone encountered the same problem? What might be the solution?
Anton, does your Windows user name (hence your home directory name) contain a non-ASCII character?

I'm facing issue with the "File > Open Windows PowerShell" for some time, I don't know what to do to solve it, googling also didn't help, and I have installed windows updates many times already.
I use this feature really lot, but now once I click "Open Windows PowerShell" I get an unkown file format dialog (see bellow).
Does anybody know whats wrong? or how I can solve this issue?
I recently installed RubyMine v7.1.4 on my Windows 10 machine. I loaded up an existing project and tried to open a terminal window inside RubyMine. When I first open the terminal it is blank and after a few minutes the standard prompt appears. But after the prompt has appeared, I cannot type anything into the terminal. The cursor blinks like it is waiting for input but I cannot type anything.
I am able to use a normal command prompt to run the commands I need to but I would like to get the terminal within RubyMine working. The settings for the terminal appear to be correct, it is pointing at "cmd.exe". I am not sure if it is relevant but my RubyMine installation is on my C: drive but the code repository is on my E: drive.
If you have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I had the same issue, and discovered that it is also affecting IntelliJ, another JetBrains family IDE; the bug has been reported, but fortunately, you can force your Windows 10 console (full of new features, but perhaps buggy? https://wpdev.uservoice.com/forums/266908) to operate in 'legacy mode' while we wait for a formal fix, which will allow you to get your RubyMine terminals up and running again:
Terminal works in Windows 10 if you use legacy console. To do so, open a
command prompt window, right click on the title, then select Properties. At
the bottom, check "Use legacy console". Confirm the dialog. Go back to the IDE
and launch a new Terminal. It should work.

I have a problem every time I open the chrome.
I'm getting the error message:
Your preferences cannot be read.
Some features may be unavailable and changes to preferences won't be saved.
So, I have to sign in at chrome every fresh start.
I have search the web and the solution to reinstall chrome doesn't work for me. I find that the problem is a missing folder but I don't know who.
My operating system is Windows 8. Any help to overcome with my problem is more than appreciated.
Exit Google Chrome completely.
Enter the keyboard shortcut Windows key+E to open Windows Explorer.
In the Windows Explorer window that appears enter the following in the address bar:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\
Locate the folder called "Default" in the directory window that opens and rename it as "Backup default."
Try opening Google Chrome again. A new "Default" folder is automatically created as you start using the browser.
fix, error: preference files cannot read."
go to control panel
programs
uninstall
click on program getting error.
click repair
this fixed my problem.
this problem can be solved easily.. once you have setup everything after the error message i.e bookmarks and sync, Run CHROME IN "ADMINISTRATOR MODE" every time you want to open chrome..that solves the issue..
I have an MSI installer that was built from a VS2010 setup project. Part of the installation includes adding or modifying registry keys. (The keys are modified if the install is an upgrade, rather than a first time install.)
The installer works fine when it's a first time install, but when it's an upgrade it appears that the installation remains incomplete until an application shortcut is clicked. What I mean by this is: the installation completes successfully, however those registry keys will not exist until an application shortcut (i.e. in the Start menu) created by the installation process is clicked. At that point, the installer starts up with a message along the lines of Please wait while applicationXXX is configured.... This happens only once, after which the keys are written and all is well with the universe.
But why does this happen? And more importantly, how can I "force" the installer to complete the installation and write those registry keys without having to click an application shortcut? I should also mention that running the application's executable directly doesn't trigger this final installation process; it only seems to work if a shortcut is clicked.
Any help/insight would be appreciated.
Just in case someone else has this issue, it turned out that the true culprit was a Visual Studio bug: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2418919
The installation is repaired automatically when using a shortcut because that shortcut is advertised. This is the normal Windows Installer behavior for broken installations.
To determine why your registry entries are not installed during an upgrade, try creating a verbose install log.
Most likely the key paths of your registry entry components are seen as already installed. This may happen if the key paths are files instead of the actual registry entries. You can check the key paths in Component table (edit the MSI with Orca).
I'm using Mac Snow Lepord and can't find "~/.config/MonoDevelop/" for the life of me. I have MonoDevelop (v2.2.2) up and running already, but when I tried to set up a template the IDE started having problems.
Namely, whenever I went to Monodevelop -> preferences-> Code Templates I would get an error saying "Argument cannont be null".
I tried removing MonoDevelop from my Mac and re-installing but that doesn't appear to fix this problem so I thought if I could find the above folder maybe I could remove that. However I am not sure how to find it. I put the address directly into Mac's "finder" search box and no results were returned.
Can anyone help?
Note: You are not going to see your .config directory in your user directory in finder unless you show hidden files. You are going to have to get there via bash in the Terminal.
The tidle ~ would normaly expand to your home directory, e.g. ~/foo.txt is /path/to/your_directory/foo.txt, depending on where 'home' is on any given system.
So, the file you are looking for is /Users/your_username/.config/MonoDevelop/ ...
Also, there are some shells / systems that simply do not support tidle expansion.
Since you are on a Mac, you'll actually have to go to ~/Library/Prefernces/MonoDevelop-2.x to do your install.
