How to inherit page from rails application.html to locomotive index page? - ruby

I am using locomotive cms for our new project. Which uses rails 3.2.13, Ruby 1.9.3 and mongodb.
As client wants to edit some of the pages(around 10), so we decided to integrate locomotive to existing rails app.
Problem we found here is not able to inherit any of pages from application.html.
Do we need to write separate html in locomotive index also or is there any way to interact between cms and our rails app.
we totally confused as this is my first cms integration to rails

I don't think that there is a way to do this. All of the layouts for locomotive are stored in the database and the rendering process is completely separate and different from the rails rendering process. I think the simplest way would just be to copy the application.html into the index layout adding in the necessary liquid blocks.


layout will auto rendered to the same name controller,and this will override application layout.
you can appoint the views to use which layout by adding
layout 'application'
to the controller which you want to use application layout

Basically the answer to that is yes, you should create a plugin.
I highly recommend you use the excellent Builder plugin. This will give you a nice GUI for creating your plugin and will generate the basic required files. After using Builder to get the basics setup for you, it is easy to modify the files as needed.

ASP.NET MVC 5 per user custom built views with widgets

I want to make an MVC 5 app that will allow users to customize views/pages, create new ones. On the custom pages they can set-up widgets and be able to save the views. Also they should be able to setup the default view that will be loaded by default.
Any ideas how can I achieve this? I believe the views should be saved in the database.

I found this template engine RazorEngine. This seams to be what I am looking for. Anybody has any experience using RazorEngine?

I think you should try some CMS like dotnetnuke etc. other wise build your own framework for all the things so that it can save and fetch your details to and from database.

Include content outside the app in rails 3.2 views

I would like to include static content as part of my normal rails views e.g. marketing content which can be text or images or both.
I would want marketing content to be separate from my rails code so that it can be separately updated.
I do not want to use content management systems.
Oh and I cannot not use DB, its an api driven app.
Is there a proper rails way of achieving this?

sorry for not being clear. I can probably explain it better with an example: I need to place some images/text on my login screen that are not part of my apps source code. That live some where on the server that can be updated async without going through my apps revision control system so they cannot be in the public folder of my app

You can put your static marketing content in the public folder of your rails app. Your question is a little unclear and so I'm assuming you are creating a rails app to do api stuff and then have static marketing content/website.

MVC sitemap provider & css styling

Does anyone know how to customise the rendering of the MVC sitemap provider so my ul element has a specific css class?

Try MvcSiteMapProvider hosted on CodePlex. You should be able to fairly easily migrate your existing Sitemap file to the slightly different but essentially compatible format. This will give you the ability to output your sitemap using the simple Html.MvcSiteMap().SiteMap() helper method.
The source of the project includes the default templates which you can edit to produce any rendering you like...or just pass in the name of a template in accordance with MVC convention. The model types you'll be rendering are SiteMapHelperModel, SiteMapNodeModel and SiteMapNodeModelList (namespaces removed for terseness).
I appreciate this may not be exactly what you're after as it relies on a 3rd party tool but its a useful project that supports much more than just rendering sitemaps. You'll want version 3.0.0 for MVC3.

How to create my own form in joomla

I want to create my own form that are submitted and values of that form will be stored in joomla database. How can i used the Joomla connection code to interacte with the joomla database.

If you just want to get your work done, there are some components already avaiable in Joomla Extension's website to your form's needs. CkForms is a good one, you can create simple forms with it that are automatically saved in the database (supports upload of files too).
If you want to learn how to write extensions in Joomla, you should read Joomla Official Documentation website.
Extensions in Joomla are divided in "Components", "Modules" and "Plugins". More informations about these differences can be found here and here.
What you're trying to achieve sounds a "component" to me. Downloading the CkForms and reading it's source code should get you started to Joomla's way of writing components.
EDIT: Joomla has a huge API with a lot of features. It has a database module of it's own, with insert methods and such. Reading Joomla's API website before implementing your component it's a good idea to avoid "reinventing the wheel" and it's a good practice since those methods are extensively tested by all Joomla users.

Of course, as another mentioned above, if you are building a module, component, or application, you will need to learn how to to develop a module, component or application. Of these three, the module is the easiest to implement.
The application gives you much freedom b/c you are not constrained to the CMS paradigm, front and back end complexities. However, there is little documentation about how to develop applications with Joomla framework b/c joomla as a framework is relatively new

Or you could just create add a html module to any position and then write the form in html i.e.
<form method="post" action="mycreatedpage.php"> <input type="text"/> <input type="submit">
Now just create a page that handles the code by emailing or inserting into db. I havent tried it but i think it should work.

Take a look at the Chronoforms extension - does more than you want.

You have two options:
Use an already built custom form extension
Create your own custom form extension (or outsource it)
Now if you only want to modify the user registration form, then you can do some PHP customization to accomplish your goal.

Making forms in Joomla can be done in a couple of ways.
If you just wanted a contact us, you can just create a page with a menu item for the User contact form. This gives you a page with a Members address and contact form. So all you would need to do was add the user as the company of the websites home address and email. But the form is very basic, name, title, textarea for message.
Next up from that you could just make a Custom HTML module add add a form to it in plain HTML like +Sean said above this, you would need to code in PHP your own form process script. You would not get error in form data checking unless you also wrote it.
Next you might rather look on the Joomla Extension Directory JED for one of the good extensions for 3 and 2.5 Joomla RSForms!Pro is good, and can do all we have needed. This lets you add fields one by one and move your form around. Then can auto generate or custom the html of the form.

Chronoforms are now a days a very popular solution for custom forms in joomla. Chornoforms support twitter bootstrap also. In simple 5 steps you can create a contact form with unlimited fields and also embed various function like DB save, Email, Thanks Message, Redirection on any page. There is events and events will have particular events.
Also possibility of extension of Normal joomla registeration. It will not extend the core registration but at the time of registration you can take various information from users.

I would use Chrono Forms, they work really well and are easy to use.
