Joomla 2.5: SEF links are not working - joomla

I migrated a Joomla 2.5 site to another hosting server. The homepage is showing up fine, but when I click on any other secondary pages, I get a 404 error. This only happens when the links are set to SEF. When SEF is turned off, the pages show normally.
Any one have a solution for this?
Thanks!

Magento homepage appears and not the intended website

I have restored magento website from a backup. I have restored files and database without any issues. Also, I did configuration in local.xml file with the DB credentials.I am getting Magento home page now.
But I restored my custom website, so my home page should be that instead of a magento home page. Can someone please help me where I would be going wrong. Any ideas or thoughts would be really appreciated.
FYI, this is hosted in GoDaddy VPS with cpanel.
check in admin CMS-> pages home page is active and its configuration/design is correct in cms

website does not work on local-host. but the first page only, all the other pages shows missing 404.
The most likely cause of this is your localhost webserver does not (if it's apache) have mod_rewrite enabled.

You develop it by editing its files!

How to forward all the 404 pages to the front page?

I have a simple question...I had an old store and people bookmarked specific product pages in their browsers as well as Google search points to some specific pages. I have now installed a new version of Magento (1.9.1) and some of these URLs will not longer work (they will show the standard 404 not found Magento page).
What would be the best way to forward all these hits to the front page?
Thank you for any suggestions!

Login to the admin, go to System>Configuration>Web and change the drop-down value for CMS No Route Page in the Default Pages section. You should be able to select your CMS Home Page.

and
Detail has linkhttp://dev-joomla.mytest.com/product/view/1/2

Unable to login to my joomla backend

There are two things you need to do for your Joomla site:
Error: Your host needs to disable magic_quotes_gpc to run this version of Joomla! => ask your hosting provider to disable magic_quotes_gpc
Update your Joomla from Joomla 3.1.6 to Joomla 3.2.1 as soon as possible.
