Opening DMG Files in a new Finder window - macos

I have made a .dmg file for my application but, when I open up my .dmg file it opens with the sidebar included. It most of the applications I have seen, the .dmg file opens up a new Finder window without the sidebar. How would I acheive this?

You can control that by creating a .DS_Store - This is a "Directory Services" Store file, which is used by Finder to setup the position of the various icons in the folder, etc. The problem is, the format is very poorly documented. However, there is a workaround: Open up your to-be-in-DMG folder prior to packaging the DMG, make it so that the sidebar is hidden, and then create the DMG. When the DMG is created, it will contain the .DS_Store hiding the sidebar. You can see a bit more on this in https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/69467/consequences-of-deleting-ds-store

The easiest way to do this is just to pay for one of the utilities out there that builds disk images for you.
I use dropdmg, but there are plenty of others. (I'm not affiliated to any of them)

How can I make downloaded files appear in "Recent" in Finder?

I'd like files downloaded via browser to also appear in "Recent" in Finder, as well as the normal content there. I really miss this functionality from Ubuntu and am aware of how much time and clicks it costs to not have it. How can that be achieved?
Recent folder is not connected with download folder. But you can drag download folder to the dock, then right click on folder and choose your settings you want.

What does a folder with no .DS_Store mean?

As far as I know, every directory within OSX contains a .DS_Store (Desktop Service Store) file.
Recently, I had some issues with an application and noticed that it's preferences folder (in ~/Library/Preferences/<appname>) somehow had no .DS_Store in it. The application issues stopped when I created a new Preferences folder with the original content. I could still browse, edit, and access the original DS_Storeless folder.
I want to know what a folder without a .DS_Store file in it means to OSX, and if possible how such a thing can actually happen?
Nothing special. The .DS_Store file is created by the Finder to store settings for that directory, e.g. the size of the window, the display mode, and the positions of icons in the window. It is not created for directories that haven't been viewed in the Finder, or which haven't had any changes made to their display settings.
Whatever problems you had were unrelated.

Can't open folder that was dragged and dropped to sidebar in sublime text3

I recently downloaded sublime text3. To get started I dragged and dropped a folder that contained a website to the sidebar. Now I can't open the folder to get to the files. I can't drag the folder back to the desktop either. The only thing I can do is drag the folder up and down the sidebar. Yet I look a videos and see demonstrations of folders being open from the sidebar. I removed another folder of some javascript files from the sidebar and lost it, completely. I installed sidebar Enhancements and now I can see more options but I still can't do anything with the folder. Is there a way to solve this problem?
You are not supposed to be able to drag the folders from Sublime's sidebar back into Windows Explorer (your desktop or any folders part of Windows GUI).
When you delete files from the sidebar, they should be moved to your Recycle Bin, check to see if the files are there.

Accidently removed "Contextual Menu Items " folder, RightClick not working , How to recover?

I was testing an application called iTrash during which it seems like i have deleted the
"Contextual Menu Items " folder as its no longer present and i can no longer right-click
anywhere on my Snow Leopard. I don't have any backups. Can someone tell me how i can recover
that folder or if i can download the files needed to have in that folder (just the original
ones) to regain the Right-click again?
I managed to get around the problem by reinstalling the 10.6.3 update and also by replacing the Track preference file .plist using an app called Pacifist which allows you to look into MacOSX installation Disk or image and search and extract individual files, in my case the default .plist file for the System Menu Trackpad. glad to see the back of this bizarre predicament.

How to make a plugin for [Path] Finder to browse zip-archives as folders?

What really surprises me is lack of some essential functionality in Finder, when one migrates from Windows to OS X. One of the things is a possibility to open an archive as a folder, i.e. staying in the directory tree and being able to drag and drop files from the archive to folders in the tree, sidebar etc.
What would you do to enable such functionality?
Update
Path Finder is an awesome shareware app, which I am going to use instead of the standard Finder (as quite many Mac users do), so I am more interested in a plug-in for Path Finder to browse archives. There is a possibility to browse packages (check the View Options), so I believe it is possible to extend it to archives. There is also a SDK for making plugins for Path Finder. The only question - how to make the plugin, so all struggling people get finally happy?
Using documented APIs, your best bet would be to wrap a filesystem, perhaps fuse-zip with MacFUSE, then associate an application with the zip UTI such that it mounts the corresponding filesystem in the Finder. You could trigger unmounting by checking for busy files and using Finder scripting interfaces to monitor open windows.
Or, use Apple's 'Quick Look' and these Quick Look extensions (one of which is'BetterZipQL' ) https://github.com/sindresorhus/quick-look-plugins#webp
